[herzglückwOne decade ago Lewis Hamilton was preparing for his first season in Formula One. Within motor racing circles his talent had been recognised, but away from the track he was still relatively unknown. His whole life up to that point had been about chasing his boyhood dream of racing in Formula One and, ultimately, emulating the achievements of his great hero Ayrton Senna. Ten years, 49 race wins and three world championships later, Hamilton has achieved his goals. For sure, I never imagined it would be like it is, he told ESPN in an exclusive interview which took place before the Japanese Grand Prix. I never imagined my life would be like this. Id sat watching the grands prix on TV and imagined what it would be like being in that garage like Ayrton Senna, Id try to imagine it, but my wildest imagination didnt sum up to what it is.Generally everything has turned out to be bigger and better ... but also different. When I was dreaming of being a racing driver I didnt think of all the things that came with it. Id only contemplated driving the car and being in that garage and being on track. It hadnt even entered my mind all the things that surround it outside the garage and the team -- maybe I wasnt smart enough back then, but I hadnt thought about those things. Those were probably more of a surprise when they came along. For Hamilton there was no real time to adapt to the changes that Formula One brought upon his life. He fought for the title in his very first year in the sport and the immediate success brought with it immediate fame. By the end of his first season, and at just 23 years of age, Hamilton released his first autobiography and became the public face of his teams many sponsors. In the space of a year he was suddenly a national sporting hero, and in the ten years since has gone on to become a global superstar.Life has changed a lot, he says. I went from being a little nobody-kid in Stevenage to people noticing me in places, so for sure things have changed a lot. I also went from being a very timid, more nervous person to a more confident, more assured and more successful person. Lots has changed but ultimately Im still the kid that I was back then.It just makes me smile because I think of all the people that said I wouldnt, said I couldnt, said I wasnt good enough. They sometimes pop up in the back of my mind and it makes me smile remembering what they made me feel like at the time in order to make themselves feel great, you know what I mean? They put someone down, said that Im nothing, and now, with what Ive turned into and who I am, it makes me smile and feel at peace. Whatever negative they put in and installed in me is at peace because Ive corrected it and balanced it.Inevitably, growing up in the media spotlight has generated both positive and negative headlines. Hamilton is a personality like no other in Formula One and increasingly his activities away from the race track have attracted as much interest as his performances on it. His extensive use of social media provides a window to his remarkable lifestyle, through which both fans and critics cant help but gaze.In the days following our interview, Hamilton took offence to the way certain publications reported his use of Snapchat during a routine press conference and at the next opportunity politely informed the media he would no longer be taking their questions. It was just the latest chapter in a turbulent relationship with the press that stretches back throughout his F1 career.Growing up in the public eye is a difficult thing and there are a lot of pitfalls, he says. Ive had great people around me who have tried to protect me from falling into them, but even today I still fall in them -- its just that I care less. If I do nowadays, it is what it is and its fun. As long as its light-hearted then its OK and you can still grow from it.Unlike many of his rivals, Hamilton has never attempted to guard his emotions in public. Speaking immediately after an engine failure cost him a crucial victory in Malaysia last month, his emotions appeared to get the better of him and he called on his Mercedes team to come up with an answer. He later clarified his remarks and pledged his support to the team, but by that time a large proportion of social media had donned its tin-foil hats and started work on conspiracy theories to explain the failure. The emotions that create such outbursts from Hamilton can be damaging, but he claims they are also linked to the very foundations of his talent.Every now and then Ive seen people have an opinion about how emotional I get; like I should be more happy even when Ive lost, he says. But I think people that comment on that forget how heavily invested I am in this sport. Its the same for anyone whatever they are doing, its about how much investment they have put in, and my heart has been invested in this for 23 years. This has been part of my life since I was eight and it is literally an extension of my life and my body. Its really odd, but I feel it. I guess thats why Im good at what I do, because I dont just drive with my head, I feel it in my heart, I feel it my chest, I feel it in my abs, I feel it in my butt, I feel it in my neck, I feel everything. Thats why I love it, because there is nothing else that I do that feeds all that and I can get those feelings from.Prior to the Malaysian Grand Prix, Hamilton had shown impressive control over his emotions. At the opening five rounds of the season two MGU-H failures and two poor starts saw him fall 43 points behind teammate Nico Rosberg in the drivers standings, only to fight back over the following seven races to score six wins and take a 19-point lead ahead of the summer break. Had it not been for a mammoth grid penalty at the Belgian Grand Prix -- a hangover from the earlier reliability issues -- he may have continued his winning streak after the summer break and be leading the championship, but instead he has been unable to regain his momentum.People talk about getting on a roll and stuff and undoubtedly its true, but when you do it you try not to think about that -- its just like youre going from one positive to another. Its like rock climbing, every time you make the next step and got to the next one its like a confidence thing that builds inside you. Sometimes you miss the next one and you cant get further up the wall, but the important thing is you always try again. When Im on that wall thats what I do, I always shake it off and try again. You can use so many different metaphors in life to describe the way I attack these things, but in the past I would often leave a race like Malaysia and struggle a lot more with dealing with it and generally dwelling on things. Its the same as when you are in a relationship and if you dwell on an argument, its similar emotions. But eventually you just learn to take the positives from it and leave the s--- behind. If anything, its benefitted my life a huge amount. Its also about trying not to waste days, because we only have a certain amount of days in our lives and every day you spend moping around is one less day you have. We take it for granted how many days we have, but I was listening to a song the other day, I think it was Alicia Keys, and it said the average days we have is 28,000 or something like that. I calculated how many days I had lived and it was nearly half of that! I was like Shoot! I need to get living! In the last ten years alone Hamilton has lived a remarkable life. Hes earned his millions, travelled the world and reached the prime of his Formula One career. But it is the journey that has taken him to that point that Hamilton says he values most.We are all faced with adversity at some stage in our life and its how you deal with it that counts. I think for people who have just started tuning into Formula One or have just started following me, they probably have no idea about the grassroots of the sport that I came up through, they probably just think I drive for a top team, have a great car and they wont know the foundation on which I perform. But really what I do today is almost minuscule compared to the journey that I took to get here. That was Mount Everest and now Im at the top and dancing around.Nike Air Max 95 Clearance . But then he felt something while the running was taking place, unfortunately, during [batting practice] while he was shagging.Kimbrel, who has a 3.55 ERA and 17 saves in 34 appearances, was among six Red Sox players named to the American League All-Star team. Asked if Kimbrel would still be able to pitch Tuesday night in San Diego, Farrell said, I would venture to say hes not going to be available for that.In addition to Kimbrel, reliiever Junichi Tazawa was unavailable Friday night due to discomfort in his right shoulder.dddddddddddd Tazawa hasnt pitched since last Sunday against the Los Angeles Angels, although Farrell said the Red Sox have not yet felt the need to order an MRI exam. Also, left fielder Brock Holt left Friday nights game with a Grade 1 sprain of his left ankle after sliding awkwardly into second base in the fourth inning. Holt was in a walking boot after the game, a precautionary measure, according to Farrell, and will be reevaluated Saturday. With the Red Sox facing a left-hander (Tampa Bays Matt Moore), it was likely Bryce Brentz would have gotten the start in left field anyway. And to complete the Red Soxs injury list, first baseman Hanley Ramirez departed in the ninth inning after fouling a pitch off his left shin. Ramirez said he doesnt expect to miss any time. The way I feel, hell no, he said. Just come in early and see how it feels and go from there. ' ' '

ullpen has had its wobbly moments, but

Ajay Jayaram advanced to the quarterfinal round of Indonesia Grand Prix Gold after defeating Reksy Aureza Megananda 18-21, 21-12, 21-19?in the third round of the mens singles event. The match lasted 54 minutes.Jayaram, seeded third, is the sole Indian left in the tournament and will next face 11th seed Yuqi Shi?from China.Earlier in the day, Parupalli Kashyap, B. Sai Praneeth and H.S. Prannoy ended their campaign after losing their respective rounds.?Kashyap, who made a comeback to international badminton after a series of injuries, lost to Jayaram 21-7, 21-12 in the second round of the event in 27 minutes.B. Sai Praneeth registered a 18-21, 21-14, 21-15 win against Thailands Kantaphon Wangcharoen in the second round, but the tenth-seeded Indian lost to the fifth-seeded Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk 21-14, 21-13 in the next round.Prannoy, seeded seventh, won against Malaysias Joo Ven Soong 21-17, 21-9 in 28 minutes to advance to the third round. He, however, lost to 12th seed Huang Yuxiang from China 21-19, 19-21, 21-23 in the pre-quarterfinal round.Vans Shoes Sale . Andrew Luck lost his favourite target and the Indianapolis locker room lost one of its most revered leaders when Reggie Wayne was diagnosed Monday with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee that will cost him the rest of the season. Cheap Vans Shoes . Here are his mid-season NBA awards. MVP: (KEVIN DURANT-Thunder) - Has been sensational this season and more importantly, the most consistent player in the league. Considering that his team has been without star guard Russell Westbrook and with the free agent departure of sharpshooter Kevin Martin, hes had to carry the majority of the load to not only keep his team afloat but more importantly, at an elite level. http://www.cheapvanstrainers.com/ . -- If Henry Burris has his way, he will be the starting quarterback to lead the Hamilton Tiger-Cats back to the Grey Cup next year. As he recorded his 23rd and 24th points of the evening, a segment of the sellout Air Canada Centre crowd expressed their appreciation for the Raptors point guard with a smattering of MVP chants.Browse around the top of the standings and its no surprise to see the Chicago Cubs. This is where the Cubs were supposed to be, after all, and to this point theyve lived up to the hype. Theyre not out there all by themselves though. Within striking distance you find the Texas Rangers, and the San Francisco Giants, who are running away with the National League West. The Giants, too, were supposed to be good -- why else would a team sign Johnny Cueto? -- but this team has the feel of an overachiever. It was supposed to be more of a dogfight. And, who knows, maybe itll still be a dogfight, but the Giants have a stranglehold on the division with the Los Angeles Dodgers being a modest disappointment. The Giants, on the other hand, have clicked, and theyve overcome their own injury issues. A team doesnt achieve the Giiants record without defeating a little adversity, and its been a whole team success.dddddddddddd.How have the Giants gotten to this point? It begins with Cueto and Madison Bumgarner. With Cueto restored, few teams can compete with the Giants front two. The bullpen has had its wobbly moments, but for the most part its gotten the outs its needed. The team defense has been outstanding -- the team ranks first in baseball in defensive runs saved, and it ranks second in ultimate zone rating.Yet you cant overlook the lineup. Its not exactly a juggernaut, even if the ballpark keeps the power down. But no team controls the zone like the Giants do. Theyre on a historic pace in that category. ' ' '

Afghanistan will host Ireland in a series of nine matches across formats in Greater Noida, their adopted home ground in India, in March 2017. The series, consisting of five ODIs, three Twenty20s and a four-day ICC Intercontinental Cup fixture, will be played from March 8 to 31.This will be a great opportunity for our squad to test themselves, Ireland head coach John Bracewell said, according to RTé Sport. Its always good for a teams development to test themselves in different conditions, and theres no better place than India to do that. Im sure the younger players in particular will benefit from playing in subcontinent conditions. Both sides have played eight completed ODIs against each other till date, with Ireland winning five and Afghanistan three. The recently-concluded ODI series in Belfast finished at 2-2.Richard Holdsworth, Cricket Irelands performance director, welcomed the prospect of playing a bilateral series that has context. This tour is exactly what we have been pushing for in recent times, where the national team plays across all three formats over a four-five week period, just like the Full Members have been doing for years, he said. Both sides are aspiring to become Test countries and to organise bilateral tours on a regular basis in series with context, rather than focusing mainly on tournament cricket. These matches will not only be part of the pathway to Test cricket for both countries, but also part of the World Cup qualification pathway.Saucony Nederland . Clarkson had been dealing with an elbow injury in early January and will be out of action for at least one week. He has three goals and five assists through 36 games with the Leafs this season. Saucony Uitverkoop . -- Tony Stewart is 20 pounds lighter and has a titanium rod in his surgically repaired right leg. Saucony Schoenen Heren . Thousands of fans at Mosaic Stadium will be cozying up to each other in an effort to stay warm in chilly temperatures and block the Prairie wind that locals say can knock your socks off.The half-time hooter sounds this week on the first phase of the Super League season and I thought it was a good time to look at the standout performers so far.It is not easy to recall all of the action from the 66 games we have had so far, so I have chosen to look at the Opta scoring system as a guide. I will begin by saying that it is not perfect, but I would be interested to meet anyone in the world who has a better way of objectively measuring the performance of the players in our top league. The people at Opta watch every match and record every action, good and bad. They award points to each player for the positive things he does and take then off him for any obvious mistakes or errors. They then add a weighing to this dependent on the time in the game, the position on the pitch and the score at the time. Scoring a 50-metre try under the post in the 50th minute when your team are already 50 points in front does not earn you as many points as it would if you were five points behind with 50 seconds remaining. He is fit, fast and a tough competitor. More than anything else, he knows how to play, and would be my tip for Man of Steel at this stage. Phil Clarke on Wigans John Bateman The scoring system does not have any favourites or bias and is done the same for every game. So unlike the voting system for the Man of Steel, it is consistent and happens after every match. So, which players rank the highest at the half-way point? Some of the names might surprise you, you may disagree with it, but this is the team of the year so far according to Optas scoring.Full-back: Zak HardakerThe Rhinos have clearly struggled in 2016 and their full-back has not played as well as he did 12 months ago, but he is still up there as one of the best players in the competition. Despite not firing like he did in 2015, Zak Hardaker is still the best-performing full-back His three closest contenders are Tony Gigot from the Dragons, Matt Russell at Warrington and Dan Sarginson for the Warriors.Wingers: Denny Solomona and Dom ManfrediNot only is the Tigers left winger one of my favourite players, he is also one of the most improved players competition. On the other wing is a man who is perhaps the most enthusiastic player when it comes to returning kicks from his corner of the field. Denny Solomona is one of the most improved players in Super League Matt Russell is probably the only player who is more difficult to stop and put down than the lad from Leigh who plays for the Cherry and Whites.Ranking just behind these two with a slightly lower average game score are Jermaine McGillvary at the Giants, Corey Thompson at Widnes and a possible contender for Young Player of the Year, Tom Johnstone from the Wildcats.Centres: Leroy Cudjoe and Anthony GellingIt may come as a big surprise to many that the player with the highest game score after Round 11 is the Giants right centre. He has played in every minute of every match and been better this year than in 2015, according to the stats. I cannot wait to see him play against Wigan on Thursday night, especially if he is opposite Anthony Gelling. In spite of the Giants Super League standing, Leroy Cudjoe has been a top performer The next three players to rank below were Kallum Watkins, Josh Griffin at Salford - who has played both centre and wing this season - and Kirk Yeaman at Hull.Stand-off: Danny BroughSome might question how he has made it into this team when his side are at the bottom of the table. Well, his runs, passes, tackles and kicks have earned him more points than any other stand-off. Huddersfields Danny Brough has led his side well during a tough period Surprisingly Kurt Gidley ranks second and Kevin Brown sits just below.Scrum-half: Joe MellorAt 25 years of age, the Vikings No 7 is peaking. He has not missed a SSuper League game for over a year and is one of the main reasons why Widnes sit in fifth spot.ddddddddddddThe second highest ranked scrum-half is Richard Myler. His move to France seems to have helped him kick-on with his career, and he looked fantastic last week at St Helens. Joe Mellor has helped propel the Vikings in to fifth spot in the standings Luke Gale never fails to impress me and demonstrates a level of intelligence and understanding that is greater than most players in the sport. The fourth ranked player will surprise most people, but perhaps not Chris Chester. Liam Finn does not have the speed of his rivals but has set up lots of tries for the Wildcats and made many kicks which have helped his team to win almost half of their games. Props: Chris Hill and Adam CuthbertsonThe job description for most front rowers is quite straightforward but these two add a level of subtlety that sets them apart - the Wolves front rower is certain to be a candidate for Man of Steel.Adam Cuthbertson has tried as hard this year as last but it makes a huge difference when youre not on the winning side. He has not caught the eye as much as he is more closely monitored by his opponents but he is still the stand-out front rower in the Opta ranking. Leeds Rhinos Adam Cuthbertson has maintained his good form in 2016 Four other big men who have done well in the first half of Super League XXI are Craig Kopczak of Salford, Castlefords Andy Lynch, Adam Walker of Hull KR and Kyle Amor from St Helens.Hooker: James RobySome teams ask their hooker to do different things and as a result may not spend as long on the field or make as many runs and metres, which will obviously affect their ranking. However, if we consider them all to have the same time to attack and defend then it gives us a level field from which to compare them. Without James Roby, St Helens would have really struggled James Roby - It is perhaps as well that the Saints No 9 has not been one of their injured players in 2016, as they would have struggled without him.Just behind him sit Daryl Clark from Warrington, who has looked great for most of the season and has an incredible strength that allows him to push defenders away. Danny Houghton is Mr Consistency at Hull and deserves to be in a top four team. Will this be the year?In the absence of Paul Aiton, Eloi Pellisier has been given greater time and looked great in most of it.Second Row: John Bateman and Glenn StewartWigan used ex-Bulls back rower Bateman as a centre last week and he could almost get selected in any position - he is that good. He is fit, fast and a tough competitor. More than anything else, he knows how to play, and would be my tip for Man of Steel at this stage. Glenn Stewart has been part of a resurgent Catalans Dragons outfit in 2016 Glenn Stewart might just be the most important player Catalans have ever recruited. They have had loads of attacking player, but none who seem as determined to defend as he does. The next three players were Liam Farrell, Ben Currie and Brett Ferres.Loose forward: Jamie Jones-BuchananThe veteran Rhino has missed four of their matches, but performed well in the others. Jamie Jones-Buchanan scored a crucial try against Hull FC last week His three closest competitors are Michael Lawrence at Huddersfield, Ukuma Taai also from the Giants and Atelex Vea in the six games he has played for the Saints.Do you agree with Phil Clarkes views? For Novak Djokovic to play his best tennis against the very best in this era is a truly astonishing feat, believes Sky Sports tennis expert Barry Cowan.Djokovic joined the tennis greats when he downed Andy Murray 3-6 6-1 6-2 6-4 on Sunday to claim his maiden French Open title and hold all four Grand Slams at the same time. The world No 1 recovered from a nervous start to impose his pace on Court Philippe Chatrier and clinch the title he craved after three previous failures in a Roland Garros final. He became only the third man after Don Budge and Rod Laver to hold the four majors at the same time, and the eighth man to triumph at Wimbledon and the French, US and Australian Opens.Djokovic, who is now on a 28-match winning streak in majors, moved level alongside Roy Emerson with his 12th Grand Slam crown and is now just two behind Pete Sampras and Rafa Nadal and five behind Swiss great Roger Federer. Djokovic wins French Open Novak Djokovic beats Andy Murray to win French Open for first time And Cowan says the Serbians achievements have not come easy since beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to lift his first major title in Australia eight years ago.Djokovic joins an elite group now, he told Sky Sports. To think that its 12 majors hes won now while Federer has won 17 with Nadal 14 and Sampras 14 - hes joint fourth on the list. Apart from the first one which was against Tsonga in 2008, his last 11 wins, hes had to beat Nadal, Federer and Murray in the final in each of those last 11.So its not as if the draw has opened up. To play his best tennis against the very best in this era is truly astonishing.Djokovic is the model of consistency. The last time he failed to make at least the quarter-finals of the majors was when he slipped to a third-round loss at the 2009 French Open. He became the first player to break through the $100m barrier in prize money this year and has now hammered home his right to be regarded as the greatest player of all time following his victory in Paris.I think if he does win Wimbledon, then it would arguably be his biggest effort of any, added Cowan. Barry Cowan gives his assessment after Novak Djokovic clinched a career Grand Slam in Paris Now hes achieved what hes wanted to achieve. You would have thought if hes human, you would think he would have a bit of a let down.Djokovic has surprised so many of us in the last couple of years. At 29, and when he started 2016, the question was can he achieve what he did last year? Most of us in the game felt yes, because there is still room for improvement. I still feel there are areas of his game that Novak can get better and right now in big matches, he just knows hes going to win. Also See:Djokovic wins French OpenHow Djokovic beat MurrayMurray v Djokovic: The RivalryThe Djokovic yearsSchoenen Online Goedkoop . -- Jaye Marie Green shot a 4-under 68 on Thursday to increase her lead to five strokes after the second round of the LPGA Tours qualifying tournament. Sundays 26-6 victory over the San Francisco 49ers provided them with hope about their long-range future. Its easier for the Bears to be more confident about the future with production theyre receiving from young players such as rookie linebackers Leonard Floyd and Nick Kwiatkoski, and several reserves on the offensive line.Floyd continues to live up to his draft status as the ninth overall pick. He has seven sacks, a fumble recovery for a touchdown and a safety. Hes put up those numbers despite missing three games with injuries.Ive been impressed, Bears coach John Fox said. Hes a very athletic guy. Hes got a lot of natural abilities. His mindset is good, too.Floyd suffered a concussion on a scary play against the New York Giants on Nov. 20 when he crashed into the side of Bears defensive lineman Akiem Hicks. It meant Floyds first ride ever in an ambulance. He left the hospital, sat out a week, then made two sacks Sunday in the win over San Francisco.Obviously weve talked about his athleticism, his speed, Fox said. We could have used it in every game. And really even early in yesterdays game we could have played a couple of things a little bit better. What was impressive about Leonard was being able to put maybe ... not some of his better plays behind him. I thought he responded really well in the second half.Floyds early problems in Sundays win had less to do with his injury and more with missing practices.Definitely at the beginning of the game I was playing kind of jittery, Floyd said. The more the game went on, the more I settled down.I havent been practicing for two weeks, contact-wise. I just had to get my feet.ddddddddddddKwiatkoski, a fourth-round pick, made nine tackles against the 49ers starting for Jerrell Freeman, who was suspended for using a performance enhancer. It was his third start this season due to injuries or suspensions.I think with those experiences and that preparation, I think hes playing faster, Fox said.Even with using young players on defense such as Floyd, Kwiatkoski and safety Deon Bush, the Bears have moved to seventh in yards allowed at 326.8 per game, and sixth stopping the pass at 220.3 a game.On offense, theyve moved up to 16th despite losing quarterback Jay Cutler to injury and missing wide receiver Alshon Jeffery due to a performance enhancer suspension the past two games.Journeyman guard Eric Kush has filled in for injured Josh Sitton and helped with pass blocking that allowed only one sack the past two weeks. But on offense the big change has been quarterback Matt Barkley, who is making an obvious case to be around next year, whether or not Cutler returns. The Bears scored three touchdowns in the each of the last two games with Barkley at quarterback. They hadnt scored more than two in any game this season before he played.Barkley connected on 11 of 18 for 192 yards in the snow against the 49ers. Fox saw improvement over the loss to Tennessee, when Barkley threw two early interceptions.Well, I think confidence at any position is huge, Fox said. Typically you have confidence, something goods got to happen. So I think in his case, even though we lost a week ago against Tennessee, I think he felt confident. I dont think hes lacking for confidence. I think thats evident in the style of play, kind of how he handles things.---For more NFL coverage: www.pro32.ap.org and www.twitter.com/AP-NFL ' ' '

U-turn welcomed Spirit of Shankly hope owners have learned lesson after ticket U-turn I think we underestimated how poor the playing quality of the squad was, and frankly, we underestimated how difficult it was going to be to stabilise the asset, FSGs former general counsel Edward Weiss said.We obviously did some due diligence on the playing squad during this process before we closed on the transaction in the middle of October of 2010. What we came to know was that the playing squad was poor. While we had a few top players like Steven Gerrard, other players like Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina were probably beyond their primes, and Javier Mascherano was not even on the team.dddddddddddd. WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. -- Say this about Dale Earnhardt Jr. -- he follows doctors orders. After missing three straight Sprint Cup races because of lingering effects of a concussion, NASCARs most popular driver did something Friday thats part of his therapy -- he made his first public appearance to speak about his recovery.I missed my team, my teammates, Earnhardt said. I just wanted to come see everybody. I get to hang out with my guys a little bit. This has been so weird not to be at the track. Its frustrating, but its the process. Were just taking it one evaluation at a time.I just want to get better. Nothing else is a priority. Our intentions are to get cleared and get back to racing. Im not ready to quit.Doctors told Earnhardt his latest injury occurred June 12 at Michigan International Speedway. He was clipped in the rear by Chris Bueschers No. 34 while racing three wide with AJ Allmendinger and hit the wall at an angle that softened the impact. He drove three more races before symptoms became too severe. The doctors feel they can make my brain stronger to be able to cope with these common events, he said. The event that I had at Michigan I shouldnt have had a concussion from. I should be able to get through events like that without having any issues.Earnhardt has been keeping fans updated on his condition via weekly podcasts. Besides reconnecting with his team and his competitors in the garage, his appearance at the road course in the Finger Lakes of upstate New York served a purpose. My doctor wants to put me in situations that drive the symptoms, Earnhardt said. My doctor calls that exposure, and this is probably the worst situation as far as making my systems go haywire. Thats what he wants. Thats just part of the process. The one thing that I worry most about is ... people making assumptions of where Im at, what Im doing, and what Im up to. I dont want people making assumptions. To give me peace of mind and to bring down any type of stress and anxiety through the process is to open up and be honest about whats going on and how were doing.Earnhardt wont drive at Watkins Glen on Sunday and also will miss the race at Bristol on Aug. 20. Four-time series champion Jeff Gordon, who came out of retirement to fill in for Earnhardt the last two races, will remain behind the wheel in the No. 88 Chevrolet for Hendrick Motorsports. There remains no timetable for Earnhardts return. That decision will be left to his doctors. He underwent further evaluation Monday at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Sports Medicine Concussion Program and said afterward that he continues to experience issues with balance and an ability to focus on an object while he moves his head.Earnhardt expressed frustration at how long hes been out.I never anticipated being out this long, he said. I didnt have this massive accident. The symptoms crept in slowly. I didnt think this was that serious. Its a challenge. I really believe and trust what theyre telling me. After contact Hamilton went on to win the race and Rosberg crawled home with a damaged car to finish fourth, with both men incurring the wrath of Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff. On Thursday Mercedes confirmed it will not be imposing team orders on its drivers for the incident, which the stewards blamed on Rosberg. Massa, one of the most experienced drivers on the grid, says he questioned Rosbergs driving after seeing the incident a second time.Asked if Rosberg had waited to late to turn right for the corner, Massa said: But this is what everybody is doing if somebody is trying to pass you around the outside, everybody is waiting a little bit to turn. Maybe he wait a little bit too much but waiting a little bit to turn, you do it, otherwise if you turn too early the other guy can pass you on the exit, but this is part of the game. For sure this was a little bit too much. When I saw it the first time I thought it was normal, a race incident, but then when you see the replay, when you see the slow motion, when you see everything, for ssure he passed a little bit the limit.dddddddddddd He already paid for what he did, he finished fourth and he was penalised but he didnt lose anything so the penalty I think the FIA just wants to show they are doing something but he didnt do anything to get himself penalised. However Massa thought Rosbergs reprimand for continuing with a damaged car was harsh, given that he slowly made his way round to the chequered flag after the incident.?What are you going to do? He will stop? He had nothing to do. Whatever situation like that you come slowly, he came slowly anyway, he didnt disturb anybody.Massa believes the incident would not be such a big talking point if Hamilton and Rosberg had been driving for different teams.?The problem is because, all these talks now is because they are from the same team. Because if they were not for the same team nobody would be saying anything here, everybody would say ah, they are fighting. Its an amazing fight between whatever, a Ferrari and a Mercedes for the championship, this is amazing, but because they are in the same team you guys are ah, its amazing what has happened, I mean we cannot forget they are fighting for the championship. Manchester City moved into the quarter-finals of the UEFA Womens Champions League with a 2-1 aggregate win over Brondby.Womens Super League champions City held onto their first-leg advantage thanks to a 1-1 draw in Denmark on Wednesday, with both goals coming inside a minute during a tense second half.Brondby had an early chance but Louise Kristiansen dragged her effort wide, and City proved dangerous when they ventured forward with Toni Duggan being denied by a Katrine Abel save. Nikita Parris wasted a decent opening when she fired over the bar towards the end of a goalless opening 45 minutes.Jill Scott went even closer just after the break but her header was cleared off the line and Parris then saw a shot come back off the crossbar as Citys pressure continued. That pressure would pay off in the 65th minute when leading scorer Jane Ross played provider, holding off a Brondby defender before playing in Duggan, who spun and smashed home a volley. MANCHESTER, England -- Ten suspects have been identified by one of the 17 police forces investigating a sex-abuse scandal in youth soccer that is engulfing the British game.Greater Manchester Police said on Thursday it was following up reports from 35 people, and its inquiry was growing on a daily basis.Since former professional players went public over the last two weeks about the ordeals they went through as youngsters, around 350 people across the country have reported cases of child sexual abuse in soccer clubs, the National Police Chiefs Council said.A hotline set up by a childrens charity in response to sex-abuse claims has taken more than 860 calls in its first week. The English Football Association is funding the hotline and has started an internal review to re-examine its response to convictions of soccer coaches in the 1990s. That includes investigating whether clubs paid off victims of sexual abuse in return for their silence.FA chief executive Martin Glenn said action will be taken against any club found guilty of hushing up victims of a growing scandal in British soccer. There has to be a situation, Glenn said, where if there are restrictive contracts through employment law which prevent people from speaking out about a crime -- and we are talking about crimes here -- then it must be dealt with.Asked if there had been a cover-up within the English game regarding child-abuse cases, Glenn said: I doubt it.If the FA has made errors, we will own up to them, as must the rest of football if avoidable errors have been made. The issue dominated a news conference to present Gareth Southgate as the coach of England. To hear the stories is heartbreaking, really, Southgate said. I am involved in an organization that is taking it extremely seriously. The important thing over the next few weeks is that we still investigate what happened, that we learn from the past, Southgate added. And I must also say, if Im a parent sending my child to a game over the weekend, I feel they are in a much better place than we were 15-20 years ago.Chelsea this week opened an investigation into an employee from the 1970s who is now dead.Air Max 97 Kopen . Hogg scored 25 points, Admon Gilder added 17 points and seven rebounds, and Texas A&M cruised to a comfortable 95-73 win over Cal State Northridge in the first round of the Wooden Legacy at Cal State Fullerton on Thursday. The Aggies (3-1) used a 27-4 run over the final 7:31 of the first half to separate from the Matadors (2-3), holding CSUN without a field goal for the final 9:12 and off the scoreboard entirely for the final 4:28.We made open shots and the floodgates opened, Aggies coach Billy Kennedy said.Hogg provided the offense early on for Texas A&M, scoring 10 of the teams first 14 points, but things got stagnant after he picked up his second foul with 15:11 remaining and sat for the rest of the half. It wasnt until Gilder and Tyler Davis got going, combining for 18 points and eight assists in the half, that Texas A&M found its footing.Micheal Warren had 19 points and Tavrion Dawson added 14 for CSUN, which has now dropped its three games against Power 5 opposition by an average of 21.3 points. Its been a problem for us, keeping our bigs on the floor, and early foul trouble really got us going in the wrong direction, Matadors coach Reggie Theus said.BIG PICTURETexas A&M: The Aggies found their offensive balance. Texas A&M only had three scorers in double figures and was 6 of 23 from 3-point range in its loss to Southern California last week, but had seven players with at least eight points on Thursday as the shot selection and ball distribution was much improved. With a young lineup starting three sophomore and Williams coming off the bench, spreading out production will be key during the ups and downs of SEC play.Cal State Northridge: The Matadors will be battle-tested for their Big West schedule. There is no shame in losing to a team picked to finish third in the SEC, and that 15-point loss at Pauley Pavilion to No. 14 UCLA should llook pretty good come next spring.dddddddddddd With a roster heavy on upperclassmen, nothing they see in conference play or the Big West tournament should rattle CSUN.SURPRISE SPARKTexas A&M switched to a zone defense in the first half after using it sparingly in its first three games. And it proved to be key in allowing the Aggies to cope with Hoggs absence. The combination of the Aggies length, CSUNs foul trouble down low and the shock factor led to 13 turnovers and a 32.1 shooting percentage in the first half for the Matadors.I dont know how much they prepared for it because we havent played it a whole lot, so I think the surprise element helped us more than anything, Kennedy said. Tomorrow I dont know if it will be as efficient.Texas A&M scored a first-half tournament record 53 points.FRESHMAN WILLIAMS IMPROVINGTexas A&M forward Robert Williams had 11 points and seven rebounds, matching his highs in his brief college career, but Kennedy sees the former top-100 recruit as a major contributor moving forward. We just got to go get him a little more tuned-in sometimes, Kennedy said. Hes young but he is really talented, and hes a big piece for us offensively and defensively.Williams was a force around the rim at both ends of the court, blocking four shots and showing a soft shooting touch.UP NEXTTexas A&M is only assured of one more nonconference game against Power 5 opposition, a December 17th home game against No. 8 Arizona. The Aggies will hope to draw Virginia Tech for Fridays second-round game and get a showcase against the Bruins in the championship game Sunday.Cal State Northridge will face the loser of the Hokies-New Mexico game on Friday, and the Matadors will gladly take a drained, beatable opponent after dropping three of four. DUBAI, United Arab Emirates -- Sergio Garcia and Francesco Molinari share a one-stroke lead halfway through the World Tour Championship after shooting 5-under-par 67s on Friday. They each made six birdies and a solitary bogey, and moved to 9-under 135 totals, one better than overnight leader Lee Westwood.Westwood carded a 70, dropping a shot on the final hole after hitting his second shot into the water.Fellow Englishman Tyrrell Hatton (66), Austrias Bernd Wiesberger (67), South African Charl Schwartzel (67) and Dutchman Joost Luiten (69) were tied for fourth at 7 under in the season-ending championship of the European Tour.Garcia looked in superb touch and, except for a couple of mistakes on the par-4 12th and par-3 13th holes, the latter resulting in his only bogey, seemed in control of the round.I try to enjoy myself as much as possible. He walked up to his first at-bat with Ludacris Georgia playing over the speakers and received a standing ovation before lining out in the second inning. The 22-year-old Swanson met with family and friends before the game and loved hearing a group of them cheer from their seats about 30 rows up from home plate.Theyre nuts, I know, Swanson said. It was great to hear that. It means a lot to me. I love every single one of them and Im just glad they were able to be a part of it.Next year figures to be just as special. Swansons family home will be even closer as the Braves move into a new ballpark in Marietta, just a few miles from his former high school. The Braves made it 2-2 in the third on Freddie Freemans 24th homer. Other than that two-run shot, the focus was on Swanson, who singled in the fourth, struck out in the seventh and singled in the ninth.Swanson was running on adrenaline and excitement before the game. After a six-hour drive from Jackson, Mississippi, on Tuesday night, he arrived at his parents home in Marietta at 2 a.m. He got about four hours of sleep, took a surreal drive to Turner Field and was the first player to arrive in the clubhouse around 11 a.m., spending 30 minutes talking with Brian Snitker in the interim managers office.Hes a very well-grounded kid, very intelligent, Snitker ssaid before the game.dddddddddddd He gets it. The intangibles are just dripping off this young man, not to mention his athletic abilities as a baseball player.Atlanta created a spot on the 25-man roster for Swanson after trading shortstop Erick Aybar to Detroit on Tuesday night and designating Mike Aviles, the utility man acquired in the deal, for assignment.Swanson was eager to get on the field and prove that he belongs in the big leagues. He was the first No. 1 overall pick to debut in the season following his draft year since Washington pitcher Stephen Strasburg in 2009.Expectations have been predictably high since last December, when the Braves traded pitcher Shelby Miller and minor leaguer Gabe Speier to Arizona for Swanson, center fielder Ender Inciarte and pitcher Aaron Blair.Swanson was projected to fill a big spot at his position after Atlanta traded away Gold Glove shortstop Andrelton Simmons the month before.Pressure is kind of something that comes about when I guess you dont believe in yourself as much, that you dont believe in something you can do or accomplish, Swanson said. I just worry about what I can control and theres no pressure on myself when I do that.Swanson spent just 127 games in the minors. The former Vanderbilt standout had a combined .275 average and nine homers and 55 RBI in 105 games between Mississippi and Class A Carolina. This is a very smart kid and a good player, President of Baseball Operations John Hart said. However he performs up here, I think its going to be beneficial for him and for us as we go to make a decision to what were going to do with the shortstop position next year.Swanson said he was too young to remember his first game at Turner Field, but by the time he was old enough to pay attention, Braves star third baseman Chipper Jones made a lasting impression.Every time I came to a game, Chipper always hit a home run, like five different times, Swanson said. It was pretty spectacular. ' ' '

The cancellation of Sunday nights Hall of Fame Game?because of poor field conditions is a terrible look for the NFL. Little-league stuff, really. And I get it, too, with players describing parts of the field as cement. That always has been an issue in Canton, Ohio, even going back to the two games I played there during my pro career on the old school AstroTurf. Rock hard. And nasty. It tore up your body. While the discussion Sunday most likely will focus on whos to blame and player safety, however, lets not forget about the important game reps that were just lost. Thats something I wrote about over the weekend. These?live?reps in August? Not a big deal for established vets. But for the rookies, the bubble guys and the journeymen trying to win a job in the NFL? Those are gold. And every play is graded. Offense, defense, special teams. Go make some plays. Earn some more reps in practice. Maybe you get bumped up a notch on the depth chart. A lot of possibilities there. And every team in the league is watching, too. This game? It was supposed to be an audition, an interview for those guys.Hey, playing in the Hall of Fame Game with the St. Louis Rams during my second pro season in 2001 helped me make the team. It was an opportunity to get a ton of reps in the second half for new defensive coordinator Lovie Smith. And many other players have the same story. Former running back Phillip Tanner mentioned it on?Twitter on Sunday night. He rushed for 59 yards on 10 carries and had a touchdown in the 2013 Hall of Fame Game.Think about that for a minute, and just take a look at the quarterback situation in Green Bay. With Aaron Rodgers and backup?Brett Hundley?not planning to play Sunday night, coach Mike McCarthy was going to give the snaps?to Joe Callahan. Hes an undrafted free agent out of Wesley College in Dover, Delaware. You think he needed those reps? Man, what a missed opportunity for a rookie to run the offense, sling the ball around and start putting together a resume in the league. Maybe the young quarterback?has family at the stadium, too. They have to hit?the road without seeing Callahan play.I understand how vets feel about this thing. As a starting safety for the Washington Redskins during the 2004 Hall of Fame Game, I wanted to get my reps in and go home. Stay healthy, execute the call and get back on the plane. But those young cats who?need every possible chance to make a team? They lost tonight. And the league looks absolutely ridiculous because of it.Swell Water Bottle Australia . Only three players drafted by NHL clubs were included on the Czech selection camp roster on Wednesday. Swell Liberty London Bottle . -- Timbers coach Caleb Porter didnt stray from his business-like approach to the season even after Portland downed the two-time defending league champion Los Angeles Galaxy to gain crucial playoff position. And then there were eight. The long road to the Hearthstone World Championship has ended, with eight competitors surviving the grueling thinning-out process, facing tougher odds to survive than a character in a teen slasher movie.Jason Jasonzhou ZhouJasonzhous path to the final eight consisted of two close wins in Group A, considered the toughest bracket based on the names involved. Not only did he topple the favorite, Thijs Thijs Molendijk, in his first game, he also defeated the Americas Spring champion, Julien Cydonia Perrault to be the 2-0 advancee in the bracket. As a noted Control Warrior player, Jasonzhou certainly hasnt passed up bringing a Warrior deck, this time going with a heavy Dragon Warrior that includes Deathwing and The Curator. Also coming for the tourney is a fairly traditional Shaman build with Harrison Jones as a card-drawing tech choice, a possible indication that hes going to avoid banning Shaman in his games, using Harrison to deal with the troublesome Spirit Claw.Rounding out Jasonzhous lineup is a fairly traditional Miracle Rogue, Discolock with the Young Priestess choice, and a Malygos Druid that still retains the nerfed Yogg-Saron.Zhuo Hamster WangFacing off against Jasonzhou in the first round of the quarterfinals is Chinas Hamster, who survived the bottom of the bracket, knocking Hao Bbgungun Li out of the tournament in the final set of games last Sunday.Hamster made some unusual -- and for this analyst, exciting -- choices in the round of 16, playing the only Priest and Paladin decks of this stage of the tournament. Hamster is again bringing those decks, a Priest with two Doomsayers, hopefully drawn early to keep from falling too far behind in the initial turns, and the bursty Anyfin Paladin. Also coming along is a Ramp/Token Druid, not only eschewing Yogg-Saron that is no longer a must-include, but also not bringing Malygos, which has become a common feature in the standard Druid deck of the moment. While there are lots of spells and the Arcane Giants to go along with it, there are two Ancients of Wars, indicating the desire to build a very strong board as his win condition rather than the unavailable Malygos shenanigans.CThun Warrior and a standard Midrange Shaman deck finish up Hamsters lineup.William Amnesiac BartonDescribed fairly as a prodigy as one of the youngest top competitors in Hearthstone, 2016 was really Amnesiacs breakout year and he almost coasted his way through the final 16 with two fairly easy matchups.Amnesiacs going for the tried-and-true, but choosing to not bring a Warrior deck, going with Midrange Shaman, Malygos Druid, Tempo Mage, Midrange Hunter and Discolock. The Shaman deck included the tech choice of Kobold Geomancer, in order to have another early spell damage minion that can activate Spirit Claws. In Druid, theres Baron Geddon, who can decimate Shamans totems and stealthed Cat Trick minions. For Hunter, while Amnesiac is playing the Cloaked Huntress, its still more of a Midrange build, only going with the two Freezing Traps (Huntress is a 3/4 minion which is fine in itself). Stranglethorn Tiger is included, one of my favorite choices in Midrange Hunter builds, simply because its a terrific Kill Command activator in this meta and going against very few Doomsayers, is harder to remove on that first turn than the Savannah Highmane, in a lot of situations.Pavel Pavel BeltukovNot every player that makes a major mistake in a high-pressure game gets the opportunity to redeem themselves, but Pavel does. Eliminated in the European World Championship in 2015 and missing BlizzCon after a play order miistake that resulted in Adrian Lifecoach Koy stealing his Dr.dddddddddddd. Boom with a Sylvanas Windrunner, Pavels getting that second chance this year.Like Hamster, Pavels bringing a heavy CThun Warrior deck (as opposed to the lighter, cycle CThun that was played a few months ago). Gorehowl is in the build and two Brawls as well to deal with faster decks, so Pavels not likely to be banning Druid or Warrior. For Rogue, Pavels going with the Malygos Rogue, a Miracle-type deck that uses Thaurissan-reduced magic spells rather than Leeroy Jenkins for the final burst. Tempo Mage and the Yogg-Saron-and-Malygos themed Druid deck complete Pavels lineup.Kim Cheonsu CheonsuThe round of 16 was a tough-time for players of the Asia-Pacific region, with only Cheonsu advancing of the four participants (China is a separate region from Asia-Pacific in Hearthstone).Cheonsus five-deck slate consists of Discolock, Midrange Shaman, Dragon Warrior, Malygos Druid (no Yogg-Saron) and Tempo Mage. While the deck order is familiar, Cheonsus tinkered with some of his choices, with some interesting ideas like playing Demonfire in Discolock, a reach/board card that is almost never seen in tournament play. Gone from the round of 16 is his Secret Hunter, a powerful deck that can sometimes run out of steam after a big Secret turn.Julien Cydonia PerraultWhere other players have either cut Secret Hunter for Discolock or backed off the secrets package somewhat, Cydonias going all-in with his Hunter, going with the full slate of secrets. Cydonias Hunter is even going a little more aggressive, swapping out the Deadly Shot for an Argent Horserider, the latter common in more face-oriented builds. The rest of Cydonias lineup stays the same as the round of 16, and given that he had the second-best record in last weeks games, behind only Amnesiac, its hard to blame him for not tinkering with success.Edwin HotMEOWTH CookHotMEOWTHs deckbuilding in the Americas Summer championship was a real treat, featuring some distinct choices such as Lance Carrier in Zoolock that really spiced up the tournament games. The BlizzCon finals are no different, with HotMEOWTH going way out of the box, eschewing all the common Warrior archetypes and going with a highly unusual Patron Warrior build. This isnt the Patron Warrior deck you remember from 2015 or even the modified post-Warsong Commander nerf list, but one featuring Bloodmage Thalnos, Blood Warriors, Wild Pyromancer and Commanding Shout. Patron Warriors lack of charge ability due to the loss of Warsong means it wont suddenly hit you for 60 damage out of the blue, but literally nobody is teching in for this particular deck. Hopefully for the viewers, it wont simply be banned all weekend as a result!HotMEOWTH is also choosing similar tech to Amnesiac, bringing Baron Geddon in his Malygos Druid and Kobold Geomancer with Shaman.Artem DrHippi KravetsUkraines DrHippi had a terrific 2016, not only winning the European Summer championship, but also collecting a cool $15,000 as the runner-up in the European Winter championship, another $5,000 in the Starladder Series, and joining Virtus.Pros new Hearthstone division.DrHippis Dragon Warrior is a more tempo-heavy version, featuring Malkorok, a card that we saw in Tempo Warrior before Dragon Warrior took over its spot in the meta. With a Tempo Mage deck with two Water Elemental and an Argent Horserider in his Midrange Shaman, DrHippi looks to deal directly with minion-based board control. ' ' '

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa -- Ethiopia was stripped of three points in World Cup qualifying on Monday for fielding an ineligible player in a game against Botswana, handing South Africa a lifeline for next years tournament in Brazil. FIFA said Ethiopia forfeited its 2-1 win in Botswana on June 8 because Minyahile Beyene played in that game when he was suspended for receiving two yellow cards in earlier qualifiers. FIFA has awarded the match to Botswana 3-0. The sanction means Ethiopia is now only two points ahead of South Africa and three ahead of Botswana and not guaranteed a place in Africas final playoffs for the World Cup ahead of the final round of Group A games in September. FIFAs disciplinary committee also fined Ethiopias federation 6,000 Swiss francs ($6,348). The Ethiopian Football Federation is unlikely to appeal the punishment having already admitted that Minyahile should not have played in Botswana. Ethiopia beat South Africa 2-1 at home in its latest game on June 16 and thought then that it had qualified for the 10-team playoffs, which will decide Africas five countries at the World Cup in Brazil. Ethiopia has never played at the World Cup. However, FIFA opened disciplinary proceedings against Ethiopia on the same day over Minyahiles eligibility. South Africa, on eight points, is at home to Botswana in the final round of games on Sept. 6. Ethiopia, now on 10 points, faces an away game against Central African Republic, which could be played in a neutral country because of ongoing unrest in the country. Botswana, now with seven points, also has an outside chance of qualifying for the playoffs if it beats South Africa and Ethiopia loses to Central African Republic, which cannot qualify.Vans Scontate Online . NASSAU, Bahamas -- Golf is a game fraught with failure -- frustration far outdistancing triumph. Think of the baseball player who is deemed a success for getting a hit 30 percent of the time. In golf that standard is more stringent, with the best player of 2016 (Dustin Johnson) winning at a rate of 13.6 percent.Even within those weeks of tournament titles, there are moments of distress: penalties, poor swings, bad holes, over-par rounds. Golfers are always lamenting what could have been, few scores ever written down without a thought that it could have been lower. So consider Tiger Woods as he is about to return to competitive golf after a 15-month layoff this week at the Hero World Challenge.Woods has won 25.2 percent of his professional starts on the PGA Tour (79-of-313). He has missed just 15 cuts on the PGA Tour in 19 seasons. Hes had 10 seasons of at least five victories and has 186 top-10 finishes -- nearly 60 percent of his starts.Even before he turned pro, Woods had six straight years of winning the United States Golf Associations biggest tournament (three U.S. Juniors, followed by three U.S. Amateurs). He won an NCAA individual title. And he won dozens of tournaments prior to that.Woods rarely tasted failure, certainly not at the rate expected in the game. Remarkably, hes finished in the top 3 in 40 percent (127-of-313) of his PGA Tour starts as a pro.(Phil Mickelson, for example, is a Hall of Famer with 42 victories in his career. Hes missed 78 cuts as a pro, and despite playing over 200 more tournaments than Woods, he has fewer top-10 finishes with 182.)But now there is doubt for Woods. Considerable doubt. As his 41st birthday approaches on Dec. 30, Woods will try to play golf again in the public eye, one that is unforgiving. Every swing is chronicled, every hole documented, every round dissected unlike any player, ever. It will be no different at Albany Golf Club, where Woods will be the host for his annual tournament playing against a top-notch cast of players, including defending champion Bubba Watson, 2016 major winners Dustin Johnson, Henrik Stenson and Jimmy Walker, not to mention Jordan Spieth, Zach Johnson and Hideki Matsuyama. No wonder even Woods has hinted at his own insecurities, saying last month before his aborted comeback at the Safeway Open that his game was vulnerable and not at the level needed to compete against the best in the world. All of which makes it fair to wonder if Woods is having difficulty with the idea of not being, well ... Tiger Woods. Most people just dont understand how mental and emotional great golf is, said LPGA Hall of Famer Mickey Wright, 81, in an email. Wright won 82 tournaments but basically stopped playing at age 34 because she had, among other issues, difficulty with the idea of being less than her best. They think purely about athletic ability. Tiger will always be the great athlete hes been, but for a while hell be thinking about playing shots rather than just stepping up and hitting them. There are a lot of new good players who have built their confidence over the last couple of years who are in their early 20s and at their strongest. Big difference being in your 40s.Even before two back procedures in the fall of 2015 sidelined him for all of 2016 so far, Woods was having difficulty with his game -- and most of it can be traced to a back problem that first started bothering him late in the 2013 season when he won five times. He tried to manage it through a fall in which there were a few hints of discomfort. He contended at the Barclays -- where he fell to the ground due to back pain after hitting a shot during the final. He contended at a European Tour event in Turkey. He lost in a playoff at the Hero World Challenge in California.Rest and rehabilitation were supposed to take care of the issues heading into 2014, but after just four tournaments, Woods shut it down to have a microdiscectomy -- a procedure to deal with a disk issue in his lower back. Woods returned after just three months but has not been the same since. In the 15 official tournaments hes played since the surgery on March 31, 2014, Woods has missed six cuts, withdrawn twice and posted a best finish of a tie for 10th -- and had two more surgeries.Having shot in the 80s just once as a pro heading into 2015 -- at the 2002 Open in horrific weather -- he did so three times in 2015, including a third-round 85 at the Memorial and a first-round 80 at the U.S. Open. He took nine weeks off prior to the Masters that year to sort out chipping problems. At St. Andrews -- where he had won twice at the Old Course -- he shot rounds of 76 and 75 to miss the cut.Ten years earlier, at the same historic place, Jack Nicklaus shot 75-72 to miss the cut by two strokes in his last competitive round in a major championship. Fans cheered him every step of the way, and he birdied the 18th for good measure. My biggest fear coming here was I didnt want to finish shooting a pair of 80-somethings, Nicklaus said that day.But Nicklaus was 65 years old, not 40, and all knew it was his last round in a major. Few would have minded if he shot 90 -- such was the adulation he received as he played his way.Woods is not being afforded that kind of reverence yet. Hes at an age where he is expected to still be competitive despite all the setbacks. And it has to be unnerving -- even to him -- to put his game on display with so much going against him: the injuries, the swing changes, the lack of competition.Bob Jones famously retired from competitive golf after capturing the Grand Slam in 1930, having won 13 major championships (when the amateur champions of both the U.S. and Britain were counted) in seven years. He was just 28 but had grown weary of the pressure and strain of championship golf. When he founded Augusta National a few years later and began what would become known as the Masters Tournament, Jones was the events top draw for years, with the expectation -- even from himself, briefly -- that he might win again. Jones shot numerous low scores in practice rounds and exhibitions leading up to his return. But in 12 appearances, Jones never bettered his 13th-place finish in 1934, the first year of the tournament. And he never broke par in 46 rounds. I grew nervous when I played in the Masters, and it hurt my game, he said. Its perfectly obvious why. I wasnt keyed for the tension anymore.Jones biographer Sidney L. Matthew, an attorney based in Tallahassee, Florida, noted that newspaper headlines every year suggested Jones -- even though he played no other tournament golf -- was the favorite. From his extensive archives, Matthew noted that Jones wrote: I realized that this return to competition was not going to be too much fun. I realized too that I simply had not the desire nor willingness to take the punishment necessary to compete in that kind of company.I think I realized, too, that whatever part I might have in the Masters Tournament from then on would not be as a serious contender. And from a 1958 Saturday Evening Post story that Matthew cited, Jones might have well been talking about Woods today. When your confidence is high, your reaction to strain is quite different than when you havent played a lot of competitive golf, and youre not certain how youre going to react, Jones said.I was keyed up, but I just didnt react the same way. I had abandoned the whole damn business for four years and I couldnt condition myself mentally. If I was going to do it, I had to get right back in things, which I had no intention of doing.Annika Sorenstam, now 46, stopped playing competitively at the end of the 2008 season after having won 72 LPGA Tour events and 10 major championships. A perfectionist during her career, Sorenstam said she had to learn to not be so demanding of herself in her post-career golf.I was extremely dedicated and practiced so hard for so long, and then basically, I stopped completely, Sorenstam said. Its only natural that my game will decline in time. I try to hit some balls on occasion before a clinic or sponsor event, but my expectations are certainly not what they used to be. I have moved on, and Im at peace with my level of play. That is much different than what Woods now faces as a competitor. Throughout his career, he has been resilient and determined. Pride is a big part. Certainly, Woods does not want to play poorly or look foolish doing so, factors that must mesh somewhere in his mind with all the physical and technical issues he faces in getting a golf swing to work under pressure. There is no more of an optimist in these matters than nine-time major champion Gary Player, who at age 81 continues to break his age and is a strong advocate for fitness and athleticism in golf. Player said he has not spoken to Woods, but he is confident Woods can be successful again.Jack [Nicklaus] and I both won the Masters in our 40s, so I have no doubt Tiger can, too, if he really wants to make the commitment, Player said. I was always positive about playing well and being competitive as I got older, and I believed my fitness, determination and attitude allowed me to think this way.Frankly, I see no reason, as long as Tiger is healthy, for him not to do exactly the same. And nobody is pulling for him any harder to do so than me.While Nicklaus and Player had long, fulfilling careers, and Sorenstam and Jones stopped on their own terms, Woods situation probably most mirrors that of Wright, considered by many to be the best female golfer of all time.Wright -- who grew up in San Diego (Woods grew up near Anaheim) and now lives in Port St. Lucie, Florida, (not far from Woods) -- has some remarkable similarities to his career. She won 82 LPGA Tour events, surpassed only by Kathy Whitworths 88. Woods has won 79 PGA Tour events, surpassed only by Sam Sneads 82. Wright won 13 major championships to finish second to the 15 won by Patty Berg. Woods has 14 majors, second to Nicklaus 18.And while it remains to be seen what is ahead for Woods, Wright left potentially years of competitive golf ahead of her when she played her last full season in 1969, due in part to foot problems, but also because of the competitive grind and the burden of being the face of the LPGA Tour. She won her last tournament in 1973.I was too demanding of myself, Wright said. Playing badly was intolerable. When I was in my 40s and playing fewer and fewer tournaments, I found myself disappointed often. [That] had something to do with my stopping full-time competing at quite a young age. I really never played golf casually. If I could go back and do it again, I would hope to be a little kinder to myself and probably enjoy the game more. Will Woods do that? Can he? At this stage, after all hes been through physically, it might be his best path back even if success is judged differently now.It is difficult to envision Woods being any type of ceremonial golfer or of him accepting of mediocrity. Can he live with the idea of only occasionally contending? Or finishing far back? Or missing cuts? His expectations may be hard for him to overcome, Wright said. I hope Tiger keeps his expectations in check and can just enjoy hitting the ball and being out there -- would be a tad surprised if he could.Zapatillas Balenciaga Oferta . MANCHESTER, England -- Manchester City hired Manuel Pellegrini as the clubs new manager on Friday, entrusting a man nicknamed "The Engineer" with constructing a team to reclaim the Premier League title and become a force in the Champions League. The 59-year-old Chilean has been courted for months by City following impressive spells in Spain with Villarreal and Malaga, which he left this month. He also coached Real Madrid in his nine-year stint in Spain but was fired after one season despite guiding the team to its then-record points total in La Liga. Pellegrini was appointed exactly a month after Roberto Mancini was fired for failing to capture a trophy in his third full season in charge, an indication of the expectations loaded on Citys new manager by its mega-rich owners from Abu Dhabi. "I am delighted to accept this hugely exciting opportunity," Pellegrini said. "The club has a clear vision for success both on and off the pitch and I am committed to making a significant contribution." Pellegrini signed a three-year deal, having had to wait to complete the move while contractual issues with Malaga were sorted. British media is reporting his deal is worth 15 million pounds ($23.5 million). He will take up the role from June 24 and will be managing in his fifth country in 25 years, after previous stints in Chile, Ecuador, Argentina and Spain in which he won six major trophies in total. "Manuel is a hugely experienced and successful manager with a proven track record," City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said. "We have been greatly impressed throughout the selection process by his philosophy, his attitude and his commitment to the long-term development of Manchester City. I am delighted that he has joined us." In a way, though, City is taking a gamble. Pellegrini failed to win a major title during his time in Spain and will be coaching in England for the first time. Many will look at his short stint at Madrid and say he is yet to prove himself at the highest level, that he flopped despite having at his disposal the most expensively assembled squad in the history of the Spanish league. Look deeper, though, and it is easy to see why City executives Ferran Soriano and Txiki Begiristain -- former Barcelona officials charged with developing Citys long-term strategy -- have turned to a laid-back coach known for his man-management skills and ability to get the best out of players. Pellegrini, who speaks English, overachieved at Villarreal and Malaga, leading the former to the Champions League semifinals in 2006 and an unprecedented second-place finish in La Liga and the latter to the quarterfinals of Europes top competition last season. He was also harshly dealt with by the powerbrokers at Madrid -- told which players to keep, whom to sell and with some bought without his consent. Madrid finished its one and only season under Pellegrini with 96 points, a club record at the time, despite being without the injured Cristiano Ronaldo for six weeks.dddddddddddd But the team finished second after coming up against the all-conquering Barcelona side of Pep Guardiola. Having also failed to get Madrid past the last 16 of the Champions League, he was fired and succeeded by Jose Mourinho. In firing Mancini, City said it wanted a coach who could "develop a holistic approach to all aspects of football at the club," and Pellegrini proved at Villarreal and Malaga that he could bring through youngsters as well as have an eye for talent in the transfer market. Soriano and Begiristain clearly want City to mimic the model followed so successfully by Barca, where all the teams -- from youth to senior level -- play with the same style and philosophy. This may be a three-year deal for Pellegrini but City is planning long-term. "Manuel is a very experienced coach with a recognized ability to get the most out of his players and build cohesive teams," Soriano said. "He shares the clubs approach to football and our ambition to achieve on-field success, co-ordinating with the wider football support teams to ensure natural progression from the academy to senior level." Pellegrini will have a star-studded squad at his disposal that has been supplemented during the past week by the signings of Brazil midfielder Fernandinho and Spain winger Jesus Navas for about 50 million pounds ($78 million), with City acting quickly this off-season after missing out on its main targets last off-season. That brings its own pressure, with Pellegrini knowing he is unlikely to last beyond next summer without winning the English title or going deep in the Champions League, the tournament in which City has failed to get out of its group in the past two years. Last month, Soriano set the club a target of five trophies in the next five seasons. Under Pellegrinis stewardship, there is unlikely to be any of the dressing-room bust-ups or training-pitch clashes that scarred Mancinis 3 1/2-year reign and led to increasing disharmony in the squad. A civil engineering graduate -- hence his moniker -- he is a placid character, typically popular among players and fans and respected in the media. Pellegrini will appreciate the opportunity he has been given at a time of flux at the top of the Premier League. With no more Alex Ferguson at United and Chelsea also changing managers this off-season, the former Chile defender has a chance to establish City as the leading force in England -- just as Mancini had before the Italian messed up. "Everything is in place for Manchester City to continue to be successful," Pellegrini said, "and I am excited to be able to work with such a talented squad, the executive team and the board to deliver for fans who are renowned for their steadfast support."
