CARSON Color Rush Renell Wren Jersey , Calif. (AP) — The Los Angeles Chargers had every reason to be susceptible to a trap game against Cincinnati. The Chargers were coming off an emotional, come-from-behind victory against Pittsburgh last Sunday and a key AFC West showdown at Kansas City was fast approaching.Sunday's 26-21 victory over the Bengals was not one of Los Angeles' best-played games of the season, but it does improve the record to 10-3 going into Thursday night's game against the 11-2 Chiefs for the division lead. "Everyone wanted to talk about Pittsburgh and if it wasn't Pittsburgh then it was Kansas City. This team was dangerous and we got out of there with a win," Chargers coach Anthony Lynn said. The Chargers scored touchdowns on their first two drives and then got four field goals from Michael Badgley — including a team-record 59-yarder — to deal the Bengals (5-8) their fifth straight loss."We did enough to win. Shoot, they all count the same. We found a way to win, in a different way," said Philip Rivers, who was 19 of 29 for 220 yards and a touchdown. The Chargers had 160 yards of offense on their first two drives — which ended in a Keenan Allen 14-yard TD catch and 5-yard score by Austin Ekeler — but had 128 the remainder of the game. Three of the last eight drives started at or inside the Chargers 7.Ekeler rushed for 66 yards on 15 carries with Melvin Gordon missing his second straight game due to a knee injury. Allen had five receptions for 78 yards and has a touchdown in five straight games."Sometimes you just have to play complementary football. Defensively we stopped them when we needed to," Lynn said. "Offensively we started out, but then slowed down and kicked field goals the rest of the day."Cincinnati had good field position for most of the day with an average drive start of its 35. Joe Mixon had 111 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown. Jeff Driskel, who was making his second straight start since Andy Dalton's season-ending thumb injury, was 18 of 27 for 170 yards and a touchdown."The decisions I made today didn't work out. We didn't get to make the break. This or that decision put us in situations, whether it's fourth down and we've got to make the stop, the 2-point (conversion) and so forth, those things today, we didn't get to make the breaks," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said.Cincinnati got within two points at 14-12 late in the first half on a pair of field goal by Bullock — one came after an apparent TD run by Driskel was overturned by replay — and Driskel's 5-yard TD pass to John Ross (the 2-point attempt was no good). The Chargers, though Cheap Renell Wren Jersey , would take a 17-12 lead when Badgley made his 59-yard field goal on the final play of the first half. The Chargers led 23-15 late in the fourth quarter when Mixon scored from a yard out. The 2-point attempt, which would have tied the game, failed when Driskel was sacked by Darius Philon.BIG OVERTURNDriskel appeared to score a touchdown with about five minutes remaining in the second quarter on a 1-yard scramble that would have brought the Bengals within four, but replay overturned it saying he was short of the goal line.In the past, quarterbacks were safe to go head-first and not be considered to be giving himself up, but that was changed this season."He dove forward to the goal line and as soon as his knee hit the ground, he was ruled to have given himself up. The ball was short of the goal line," referee John Hussey said after the game. The overturn meant the ball was spotted inches short of the goal line and brought up fourth-and-goal. Bengals guard Alex Redmond was then called for a false start and Cincinnati had to settle for a Bullock 23-yard field goal that cut the Chargers' margin to 14-6.BIG LEG BADGLEYBadgley, who had the winning field goal last Sunday at Pittsburgh, now has the longest field goal in Chargers history. The Chargers attempted a Hail Mary with a second remaining, which resulted in Rivers being sacked, but Bengals defensive end Jordan Willis was called for a false start, which brought out Badgley, who said he was very confident about making it."You got to go out there with that kind of confidence. If you're going out there thinking you're going to miss it you probably shouldn't be kicking it," said Badgley, who is 14 of 15 on field goals since joining the Chargers last month. "But going out there, it was a way for us to steal momentum from them at the end of the half, go into the second half with more points. It was definitely good for us to get those points at the end of the half."The former team record was a 57-yarder by Nate Kaeding at Tampa Bay on Dec. 21 Renell Wren Jersey Womens , 2008.UP NEXTBengals: Host Oakland next Sunday before concluding the season with two straight road games.Chargers: Travel to Kansas City on Thursday night in a matchup of two of the top teams in the AFC. Linebacker and right tackle are the two most obvious needs for the Bengals, and these two players would be quality signings despite their respective risks."In less than four weeks, the new NFL league year will commence and unrestricted free agents will be free to sign with any team they please. In the year 2019, all 32 franchises can legitimately better themselves with the use of free agency with the aid of an ever-inflating salary cap. The Bengals, however, have traditionally kicked back and watched teams aggressively eliminate roster weaknesses with quality talent at premium prices.Cincinnati spends about as much as the next team, but their investments in external talent usually fall short of what it takes to build a truly competitive roster. This is primarily due to the fact that the Bengals rarely offer as much guaranteed money as their competitors do.This is an organizational aspect that needs to evolve now that Zac Taylor is the head coach and GM-in-everything-but-title Duke Tobin has seemingly assumed more power in the front office. There are quality players that the Bengals can invest in multi-year deals without resetting the market at their respective positions.Pro Football Focus senior analyst Mike Renner offered his take on two ideal free agents for the Bengals to target next month. For starters, he attacked the linebacker position with a player who is as much of a linebacker without being listed as one.A high second-round pick from the 2015 NFL Draft, Collins had his breakout year in 2016 when he made the switch from free safety to strong safety in the Giants’ defense. He made his first of three Pro Bowls that season, was a first-team All-Pro, and was under serious consideration for defensive player of the year.In 2018, Collins played in the box more than four times than he did at free safety, and while he hasn’t quite reached his 2016 level over the past two seasons, he’s still a quality player who does his best work close to the line of scrimmage.Collins is essentially a linebacker in today’s NFL and would be an ideal fix to the Bengals’ issues there. He could cover hook/curl zones, provide a meaningful force on the edge and would legitimately serve as the best tackler on their defense, relative to what they have now. While he’d be a quality addition, Collins would not alleviate Cincinnati’s issues at linebacker. In a similar, just adding a right tackle would not completely fix their offensive line. Renner matched them with a potential answer to that spot all the same. The beginning portion of that statement hits pretty close to home Renell Wren Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , but the sentiment is well understood. Williams was drafted two rounds after Collins as a part of that 2015 class, and started to hit his stride in 2017. After starting 10 games at right tackle for the Carolina Panthers in 2016, Williams was a 16-game starter at the position the following year and graded fairly well. Carolina managed to help him out in pass protection with the aid of a tight end softening the edge similar to what the Tennessee Titans do with their right tackle Jack Conklin, but Williams played well all the same.Entering a contract year in 2018, Williams made it through 56 snaps before the MCL he tore early in training camp prohibited him from going any further. Williams was placed on injured reserve, and we were left wondering whether or not he could successfully build off his 2017 campaign. Now, Williams will become a free agent and, simply put, is a much better option than what the Bengals currently have at the position. His injury would likely provide the Bengals with a discount, and that position would be sufficiently filled. But is Williams the right kind of tackle for what the Bengals want to do offensively?By all accounts, Taylor’s offense will be primarily based out of outside zone, which would require his offensive lineman to be athletically capable of zone blocking. Williams comes from a scheme that deploys mainly gap-style runs, and his athletic profile fits that of a gap-style blocker. So while he would provide an upgrade in pass protection by default, he may not be an overall scheme fit. What’s important to note is that if the Bengals truly wanted both Collins and Williams, they have the cap space to afford them, and potentially another free agent. Who are your ideal free agents for the Bengals to sign this offseason?

One of the worst things a quarterback can do is to check down on third and long. Yes Womens Jamaal Williams Jersey , sometimes a receiver will heroically make it to the sticks, but in general, if a quarterback doesn’t throw to the sticks, they are often (but as it turns out, not always!) conceding a punt, which is the equivalent of conceding a turnover.Every year, Football Outsiders measures a QB’s propensity to check down at the worst possible time through the stat of ALEX (Air Less EXpected, named in honor of Alex Smith). ALEX is a measure of whether or not quarterbacks throw to the sticks on third down. Checking down on third down is usually a bad idea, and so ALEX was developed to shed light on the cowardly, while highlighting the accomplishments of the smart and brave. The good thing for the Green Bay Packers is that even in a down year, Aaron Rodgers, was smart and brave Womens Aaron Ripkowski Jersey , throwing to the sticks on 3rd down more often than anyone outside of the otherworldly Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs. The bad thing was that Rodgers wasn’t actually very good at completing those passes, because even though he was 2nd in ALEX, he was 21st in conversion rate. There are all sorts of reasons for this, including poor play-calling, an outdated strategy that relied on “trying to make third down manageable,” a maddening tendency to take sacks, an inexperienced receiving crew, and throwing bombs on 3rd and 1 for no good reason. However, the fact still stands that Rodgers was smart enough to throw past the first down marker, though he was unable to actually complete most of those passes.2018 was an interesting season that really showed everyone the value of intelligent playcalling, and in ALEX, the geniuses came through in an unconventional way. Jared Goff Womens Bart Starr Jersey , Andrew Luck, and Drew Brees all ranked in the lower half of ALEX, but as it turns out, if your scheme is good enough your receivers can actually pick up first downs through YAC. Surprisingly, all three of those quarterbacks finished in the top ten in conversion rate. Some short passes are made out of panic, and some are made out of well-designed surgical strikes; in the modern game, ALEX probably requires more context than it used to. If you generate reliable YAC, throwing short isn’t so bad. Goff and Brees are typical of a movement in the NFL that has well-run teams focusing on avoiding third downs altogether, often throwing to the ALEX-level on first and second down. On third down, the Saints and Rams in particular focus on conversion rate above all else. They get conservative in terms of bombs and other low-completion-percentage, high leverage throws, but pull out any play that can get them ten yards Dave Robinson Jersey White , whether or not the requires an ALEX throw. The smart teams have figured out which plays are most likely to move the sticks, and that is what they run in crunch time. It’s better to be Aaron Rodgers than old Alex Smith, but it’s best to have a good QB working in an analytically-minded offense. Maybe we’ll get there next season. Marcus Mariota and Matt LaFleurWe may not know much of new head coach Matt LaFleur, but at the very least he had Marcus Mariota throwing to the sticks, and unlike Aaron Rodgers, Marcus was pretty good at doing so. In 2018, Mariota ranked 10th in ALEX and 5th in conversion rate. That alone would provide some hope for Matt LaFleur, although Mariota was also good in ALEX before LaFleur arrived. I suspect that ALEX is more of a coaching-based stat when we see high conversion rates paired with low ALEX, and more of a QB stat when we see either low-low, or any kind of high ALEX. In any case, this probably says more about Mariota than LaFleur, but at least LaFleur’s offense wasn’t getting in the way.Jaire Alexander & Josh Jackson have good odds to win Defensive Rookie of the Year Defensive Rookie of the Year awards tend to go to players who fill up the stat sheet with gaudy numbers. In the past eight years Womens Dean Lowry Jersey , the trend has swing away from impactful inside linebackers — who won the award five out of six years from 2004 to 2009 — over to edge rushers and cornerbacks. Recent winners Marshon Lattimore and Marcus Peters were among the league leaders in interceptions and pass breakups as rookies. Edge rushers Von Miller and Joey Bosa were sacking quarterbacks with regularity in their first years. Even a few interior defensive linemen like Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh won, but they were pocket collapsers who recorded nine and ten sacks respectively as rookies. There was a two-year blip in that trend earlier this decade. Luke Kuechly is the rare inside linebacker who can take over a game and run-stopping lineman Sheldon Richardson beat linebacker Kiko Alonso in a 2013 class that had no star pass-rushers or corners. But in 2018, there should be plenty of pass-focused defenders who should vie for this year’s award. The Green Bay Packers have two of the top options.According to online sportsbook Bovada, first-round pick Jaire Alexander has 18:1 odds to win this year’s award, putting him in a four-way tie for the 8th-best odds. Coming up a few spots back is his teammate, second-round cornerback Josh Jackson, who sits alone in 12th with 20:1 odds. One of the reasons that the books value their chances highly is because both are talented ballhawks. As a sophomore in 2016, Alexander intercepted five passes and forced a fumble. He only picked off one pass in 2017, but that was due to missing half the season with an injury and teams rarely throwing the ball in his direction.Jackson’s 2017 was even more impressive, as he lead all of college football with eight interceptions and he recorded another 18 pass breakups and a forced fumble. Jackson also took two of those picks back for touchdowns. The two players were the second and fourth cornerbacks selected in this year’s draft. Denzel Ward, who went 4th overall to the Browns, is tied for fourth in overall odds at 14:1. The third corner Marquez Valdes-Scantling Jersey , Mike Hughes of the Minnesota Vikings, was picked in round one at 30th overall but is tied for 24th in ROY odds at 40:1. That puts him behind a host of second-round cornerbacks, including Jackson, Carlton Davis (63rd overall, 33:1), Donte Jackson (55th, 33:1), and MJ Stewart (53rd, 35:1).

Who will stay and who will go from the front seven?"Depth for the Houston Texans’ defensive line has been an overlooked asset for the past couple years. With J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney stealing the spotlight Color Rush Kahale Warring Jersey , the deep supporting cast the Texans have on the defensive line has done a stellar job playing their part up front. As a group, they only allowed eight rushing touchdowns in the 2018 season, which was the third least in the NFL.This position was so deep that at times the coaching staff was forced to place significant contributors off the 46 player active game day roster. This luxury may soon be in jeopardy as four players are set to become free agents next week. Angelo Blackson, Christian Covington, Brandon Dunn, and Joel Heath have garrisoned a Texans defensive line that ranked third in the NFL in average rushing yards per game in 2018. With all four players set to become free agents, there likely will not be enough funds to go around to compensate all of them at the salary they are worth. The Texans did not pay a single one of these players over $1 million this past season. They are not likely to get away with such frugal compensation this year...Chart provided by SpotracAll four free agents to be are either 25 or 26 years old and have several more years of good football left in them. It will be a shame to watch one, two, or even three of them not return as they have all recieved significant playing time the past few seasons. Just as in any beauty contest, these four contestants vying for a renewed contract have shown off their respective skills in a variety of disciplines: pass rush, run stopping, versatility, and health. Covington, the only player the Texans drafted out of the group of defensive tackles, is an all-purpose lineman who flashed glimpses of pass-rushing capabilities this past season. Known for his run-stopping capabilities, Covington is a 3-4 defensive end, which means he generally lines up directly over the offensive tackle. In Houston’s defensive scheme Cheap Kahale Warring Jersey , his job is to follow the script while Watt, Clowney, and Whitney Mercilus freelance across the defensive line. Particularly on run plays, Covington has become adept at being an immovable object on the defensive line when runs are directed his way. Along with those run defense skills, Covington has grown into a semi-capable pass rusher. With three and a half sacks last season, he is the most adept pass rusher out of this group about to hit the market. Covington has dealt with several strings of injuries throughout his four seasons. In 2017, he ended the season on IR with a torn bicep. In 2018, he battled a thigh injury among other nicks and bumps. The Texans will keep Covington over Heath, Dunn, and Blackson if they want to continue to develop him as a pass rusher and a versatile defensive lineman.Chart provided by SpotracAngelo Blackson is far and away the least-known yet highest-contributing player on the entire team. Taking over 40% of the snaps on defense, Blackson played in all 16 games this past season and stepped up this season as a run stopping defensive end. In a rotation with D.J. Reader, Blackson is a more of a 4-3 defensive tackle who matches up well against offensive guards in the trenches. He usually steps onto the field when the Texans are in nickel and he can line up further inside. For all of his contributions, Blackson goes relatively unnoticed on the defense, leaving the flashy plays and stats to players like Clowney, Reader, and Watt. With one sack and one tackle for loss on the year, keeping Blackson as a Texan may not be the most inspiring move the team makes this offseason. He isn't a stat sheet hero Kahale Warring Jersey Womens , but a valuable piece to the middle of the front-seven. Along with Blackson, Brandon Dunn can be lumped into the “under the radar” category of Texans. The Texans signed Dunn off of the Bears practice squad in 2015. He has been with the team for four years now and has progressed into a starting nose guard for the defense. At 6’2” and 310 pounds, he is a tough man to move off of the ball. Dunn’s upper body strength enables him to shed blockers and maintain the defensive line of scrimmage for the Texans. Dunn had the pleasure and fortune to learn under Vince Wilfork for two years in Houston and he demonstrated those lessons quite often in 2018.Of the four free agents on the defensive line, Dunn should be the most coveted by opposing teams. A cost-effective defensive tackle is a valuable asset in a league where defensive linemen are garnering enormous salaries. If the Texans are to keep Dunn in the fold, I think they will have to sign him to a long-term deal and pay him between $5 - $6.5 million per year. It should be within salary cap means to keep Dunn, and conversely losing him would leave the team with just D.J. Reader as a defensive tackle option (although he is listed as a DE). Last on the list of upcoming free agents is Joel Heath. He is the only restricted free agent of the bunch, which means that if another team gives him an offer, the Texans have five days to match the offer or let him go. Heath contributed early in the season, but a knee injury, illness, and a lack of production kept him off of the game day roster for the second half of the season. In 2017, Heath had production comparable to what Dunn and Blackson did this past season. But with just five games played in 2018, Heath’s value to the team may not be as high as it once was. With a restricted free agent qualifying offer placed on him, there is a good chance Heath stays with the Texans unless someone actively pursues him this offseason. Each of the four players has several advantages worth keeping them in the mix to be a part of the 2019 version of the Texans d-line. In terms ofsnap counts, Blackson led the way with 430 plays on defense and played in all 16 games. While their production on the field are similar, Dunn should carry more value heading into the offseason due to his position as a NT for the Texans. For Covington, the Texans and specifically Bill O’Brien prefer to keep their drafted talent and continue to mold them throughout their career. Finally Kahale Warring Houston Texans Jersey , for Heath, the restricted free agent status gives the Texans the opportunity to match and retain him without too big of an expense. There could be a ton of movement in this position group over the next couple weeks, so keep an eye out for any free agent moves in the NFL that may affect our current roster of defensive linemen.Watch Houston Texans Assistant Coaches Discuss Offseason, Upcoming 2018 Season The worst part about writing on the internet is the internet itself. All too often, instead of enjoying the way the sun falls through the window or the hum of the fan while I sit in the bathroom or ignoring the books I can be reading, I’ll scroll aimlessly. In spite of all that life wasting and internet hanging around, I still miss things. For example, last week I missed these little interviews the official site of the Houston Texans did with the team’s assistant coaches. Each one offers a little insight. They are quick, hot pockets molten in the center, and they also allow you, the fan, to remember and get acquainted with the men coaching your favorite players. Below are the videos that were posted on the team’s account. Watch away, even though you should be sitting on your balcony, listening to the cicadas and frogs, enjoying the bites of mosquitoes before fall comes and turns everything brown and naked. EAGAN Color Rush Deshaun Davis Jersey , Minn. — George Iloka had just sat down to eat with his wife when the call came from his agent. The Cincinnati Bengals were letting him go. So much for that quiet day off. So much for all that time in training camp perfecting the scheme. So much for the only NFL team he’d ever played for.More Vikings coverageTop Tweets: Minnesota teams send best wishes to GophersVikings sign veteran guard KlineVikings agree to terms with kicker Dan BaileyVikings add RB depth, re-sign Ameer AbdullahFormer Vikings guard Easton agrees to four-year deal with Saints“But that’s the business. That’s what we kind of signed up for. Things happen. At the end of the day, you’re just a number for the most part,” Iloka said.Fortunately for Iloka, his first defensive coordinator was interested in a reunion. The Vikings signed Iloka, a former pupil of coach Mike Zimmer, to a one-year contract on Wednesday to add yet another accomplished player to what was the best defense in the league last season.“I’m comfortable with the system, the playbook. And this is a good team. They were real close last year. They were on the brink of making it to the Super Bowl,” Iloka said after his first practice, about five hours after boarding a plane for Minnesota. “I’m just here to help this team out anyway I can. My relationship with Zim, this facility, the kind of team that they have made it a no brainer.”The Bengals released Iloka on Sunday to clear $5.3 million in salary cap space and make way for second-round draft pick Jessie Bates III to move into a starting role. Iloka was a fifth-round pick by the Bengals out of Boise State in 2012 and played two seasons in Zimmer’s defense before the coach was hired by the Vikings. Iloka became a starter in his second year and started 76 games for the Bengals, with nine career interceptions. Credited by the team with 230 tackles over that time, Iloka is 10th on the all-time Bengals list in that category.“He’s very smart. He’s a good tackler. He’s going to be where he’s supposed to be all the time. He pretty much knows a lot of the things that we’re doing,” Zimmer said. “Most of the calls we went through today, he knew probably 85 percent of them.”All-Pro Harrison Smith is entrenched at one of the safety spots. Andrew Sendejo has mostly manned the other slot for the last five years, starting 53 games plus three more in the playoffs. He’ll turn 31 on Sept. 9 Ryan Glasgow Jersey , when the Vikings open the season against San Francisco. Naturally, there’s a question now about whether Sendejo will celebrate that birthday in a purple uniform, considering he’s carrying a $3.5 million salary cap hit. With Anthony Harris and Jayron Kearse, the Vikings have two backups who’ve been in their system for two-plus seasons and contribute significantly on special teams.“This wasn’t a move to replace anyone. This was a move to get as many good players as we can,” Zimmer said. “He became available, so we were fortunate.”That could be more than just coach speak from Zimmer, who has said previously he’d like to use more of his best players in different positions more often this year to maximize their impact. Smith, for example, could be used in a linebacker spot in certain packages. Veteran cornerback Terence Newman, who played with Iloka with the Bengals, has taken turns at safety.“Honestly, we’re just trying to add good football players,” Zimmer said, “and it’ll all sort out at the end.”That’s just fine with Iloka, who was looking forward to working with the hard-driving Zimmer again.“I grew up in Texas, and that’s how my high school coach was. The linebacker coach at Boise State was the same way,” Iloka said. “I’m used to that style. It doesn’t matter either way. He just has a good defense.” CINCINNATI (AP) — The Bengals‘ redesigned offense had quite an opening month Cheap Deshaun Davis Jersey , putting up yards and points at a far better rate than in the past two seasons. With opponents getting a better idea of what they're doing, Andy Dalton and company have sputtered in the past three games. It's more than just familiarity. Running back Giovani Bernard is sidelined by a knee injury, receiver John Ross has been limited by a groin injury, and the tight end position has been decimated by injuries. What's left hasn't been able to do much. The Bengals (4-3) head into a game Sunday against Tampa Bay (3-3) looking to stop the slide as they reach the season's midpoint and their bye week."We did some things early on in the season that were really good," quarterback Andy Dalton said Wednesday. In the first four games, Cincinnati's offense averaged 24.5 first downs and 376.5 total yards. In the past three, it has managed only 17 first downs per game and 282 yards, both significant drops. Dalton's numbers reflect the trend . He threw for 1,197 yards with 11 touchdowns in the first four games. In the past three, he's thrown for 625 yards with four touchdowns.Their worst showing by far came Sunday night during a 45-10 loss in Kansas City . The Bengals had a season-low 15 first downs and 239 yards against a defense that was last in the league. Dalton threw for only 148 yards and had an interception returned for a touchdown .The offense was shockingly limited in the first half. A.J. Green had six catches for 110 yards. The rest of the receivers combined for four catches for 8 yards. Green accounted for 110 of Cincinnati's 139 yards as the Chiefs took control."A couple of us had quiet games in the first half," said receiver Tyler Boyd, who had three catches for 27 yards overall. "I definitely wanted to make more plays in the first half to ease off A.J. I know he was tired at times, and he made a ton of plays."The Chiefs adjusted their coverage on Green in the second half and nobody else was able to take advantage."We have to be able to react and adjust in-game and get back on track," Dalton said. "Our goal is to get back to the way we were playing and the way we know we can play."The most glaring drop-off has been at the tight end spot with Tyler Eifert done for the season with a broken ankle and Tyler Kroft sidelined by a foot injury. C.J. Uzomah had two catches for 13 yards.Coordinator Bill Lazor told the offense this week that good teams improve as the season goes along, and it's time to get out of the recent rut."We're always mentioning that the sky's the limit for this offense, and Bill was pointing out we're declining," Boyd said.BURFICT STRUGGLINGLinebacker Vontaze Burfict has repeatedly missed tackles since returning from his four-game suspension for violating the NFL's policy on performance-enhancers. He also was fined $112 Hardy Nickerson Jersey ,000 for several egregious plays during a loss to the Steelers, including hitting Antonio Brown in the head again. In his three games, Burfict has a total of 17 tackles, no sacks, no interceptions and two passes broken up. He landed on his hip during Sunday's game and was held out of practice on Wednesday."He hasn't played as well as he has in the past," coach Marvin Lewis said. Asked to elaborate, Lewis said, "I don't want to talk about Vontaze. It's not relevant."ALSO SIDELINEDBurfict was one of 10 players held out of practice, along with CB Darqueze Dennard (shoulder), CB Dre Kirkpatrick (Achilles), LB Nick Vigil (knee), long snapper Clark Harris (concussion), RB Giovani Bernard (knee), OT Jake Fisher (back), OT Bobby Hart (back), Kroft and Ross.Rookie center Billy Price returned to practice on a limited basis. He's been sidelined for five weeks by a partially torn ligament in his right foot. DT Adolphus Washington was limited by a tailbone injury.

The Lions’ first attempt to sign a running back away from the Rams was thwarted Jalen Reeves-Maybin Jersey White , but their second attempt found more success.According to multiple reports, the Lions have signed C.J. Anderson to a one-year contract. The Lions signed Malcolm Brown to an offer sheet as a restricted free agent last month, but the Rams matched the deal to keep Brown as the top backup to Todd Gurley. Anderson joined the Rams late last season with Brown on injured reserve and Gurley dealing with a knee injury.Anderson ran 43 times for 299 yards and two touchdowns in the final two games of the regular season. He added 46 carries for 189 yards and two touchdowns in the postseason.Lions head coach Matt Patricia said last week that the team does not want to wear out No. 1 back Kerryon Johnson this season. Anderson gives them a strong alternative in the backfield as they try to keep Johnson from taking too much wear and tear. Are you still in the giving mood even though it is no longer Christmas? Well then do I have the opportunity for you! The Detroit Lions lost on Sunday to the Minnesota Vikings in what was mostly an ugly game. However, let’s give one player the honor of being Player of the Game. As always, I will provide five candidates worthy of at least some recognition, and your vote will decide the winner. Here’s a look at the Game Ball standings through 15 games. (Note: First place in voting gets three points, second place gets two points, third place gets one point.)Game Ball standings through Week 15:Kenny Golladay - 16.5Damon Harrison Sr. - 14Kerryon Johnson - 11Darius Slay - 5.5Zach Zenner - 5Quandre Diggs - 4Devon Kennard - 3Golden Tate - 3Da’Shawn Hand - 3Matthew Stafford - 3Marvin Jones Jr. - 3LeGarrette Blount - 3Frank Ragnow - 2Michael Roberts - 2Romeo Okwara - 1Jarrad Davis - 1Matt Prater - 1Sam Martin - 1Mike Ford - 1Levine Toilolo - 1Onto this week’s candidates:Quandre Diggs:Stats: 7 tackles (6 solo)We tend to give a lot of credit to the defensive tackles when it comes to this Detroit Lions run defense, but Quandre Diggs deserves a fair share Womens Quandre Diggs Jersey , too. It seems every single week, Diggs comes crashing into the tackle box and makes a huge, devastating hit. Against the Vikings, he probably made three or four. Taylor DeckerStats: PFF grade of 78.8 (90.0 pass blocking)Much of the reason the Lions’ offense was able to move the ball somewhat effective in the first half (that is, until they were in Vikings territory) was because of the phenomenal pass protection. The leader of that group was left tackle Taylor Decker, who has had an up-and-down season. This week was his best performance of the season, and I’m sure Matthew Stafford was thankful afterwards, considering the last time these two teams played, Stafford ate the turf 10 times. Zach ZennerStats: 8 carries Barry Sanders Jersey , 45 yards; 2 catches, 22 yardsZenner led the team in yards from scrimmage and was easily the most effective runner on Sunday. Zenner continues to run with confidence and decisiveness, which is what this running game requires, since the offensive line is still creating holes. That being said, Zenner is also creating opportunities of his own. According to Pro Football Focus, Zenner actually had more yards after contact than total rushing yards against the Vikings. Damon Harrison Sr.Stats: 5 tackles (3 solo)Every time the Lions got a stop in the running game, Damon Harrison seemed to have a hand in it, either directly or indirectly. You’d be hard pressed to final a single snap from Harrison in which he was at fault for anything in the running game. He’s constantly listed in these Game Ball posts, but you could make the argument he’s still underappreciated (see: no Pro Bowls). Sam MartinStats: 6 punts http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-zach-zenner-jersey , 41.5 avg., 4 inside 20-yard line, 1 inside 5-yard lineSam Martin has received a lot of criticism since an off-field injury caused him to miss the first half of the 2017 season. Admittedly, he no longer looks like the player that was clearly the second-best punter in the league behind phenom Johnny Hekker, but Sunday’s performance was a nice reminder that he’s still pretty skilled at the position. His ability to pin the Vikings deep in their own zone early in the game was arguably the reason Detroit was able to put up points in the first half. With quick defensive stands, the Lions’ sputtering offense had excellent field position all throughout the first two quarters—which resulted in minimal effort for three points.

The Cardinals have hired Tom Clements Geronimo Allison Jersey , though the veteran coach will not have the title of offensive coordinator.According to multiple reports, Clements will serve as passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Head coach Kliff Kingsbury will call the plays, with Clements as his primary offensive assistant, working directly with quarterback Josh Rosen. The Cardinals cast a wide net in their search, interviewing several candidates, including Ben McAdoo, Jim Bob Cooter and Hue Jackson. Clements, 65, returns to the NFL after two seasons out of a job. He has not coached since the Packers fired him after the 2016 season.Clements coached in Green Bay for 11 seasons. He was the Bills offensive coordinator in 2004-05 and also has spent time in New Orleans Kevin King Jersey White , Kansas City and Pittsburgh. The Cardinals hired Vance Joseph as defensive coordinator, James Saxon as running backs coach, Marcus Robertson as defensive backs coach and Sean Kugler as offensive line coach. MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Once Kirk Cousins and the Minnesota Vikings took the lead on Green Bay, they played with a fierce refusal to let it go.They held onto the ball with the same determination.Cousins bounced back from his worst game of the season with 342 passing yards and three touchdowns without a fumble or an interception, and the Vikings overcame some early gaffes to outlast the depleted Packers for a 24-17 victory on Sunday night.Completing 29 of his 38 attempts, Cousins found Dalvin Cook , Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen for scores. Diggs and Thielen had eight receptions apiece.“It just kind of shows his character, shows what kind of player he is, to be able to just not really care what people talk about him http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-quinten-rollins-jersey , not really care about what happened last week,” Thielen said of Cousins, adding: “The throws he was making, his full game was really impressive. That’s what you expect out of him.”Sheldon Richardson had two sacks to lead the defense’s game-long stifling of Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings (6-4-1) pushed the Packers (4-6-1) further back in the NFC wild card race. The Vikings won a night game for the first time this season after losing to the top three teams in the NFC: to the Rams in Los Angeles, at home to the New Orleans Saints and at Chicago in a two-interception game by Cousins against the first-place Bears. The Vikings entered the weekend with the fourth-most turnovers in the NFL, and Cousins has been charged with 13 of the 16 giveaways. Coach Mike Zimmer was so impressed by the way Cousins played against the Packers that he gave him the game ball in the locker room afterward .“Last week left a bad taste in our mouths,” Cousins said, “and the chance to come back on Sunday night football against a division rival at home was a great opportunity Womens Nick Perry Jersey , and I’m glad we made the most of it.”Rodgers threw a touchdown pass to Davante Adams and Aaron Jones scored on a short run for a 14-7 lead early in the second quarter, but the Packers fell to 0-6 on the road this season and 1-5-1 against the Vikings in their last seven meetings. Their final seven possessions produced only one field goal, with five punts and one turnover on downs.“We’ve all got to play better, myself included,” Rodgers said. “Started off the game nice. We had a couple good drives. We’re rolling there. We hit our unfortunate typical lull and didn’t get it going again.”With Randall Cobb out (hamstring) for a sixth game this season and rookies Equanimeous St. Brown (elbow) and Trevor Davis (hamstring) forced out in the second half, Rodgers didn’t have much to work with down the field. Left guard Lane Taylor (quadriceps) departed in the first half and left tackle David Bakhtiari (knee) was sidelined in the second half, leaving the protection shaky at best. Rodgers finished 17 for 28 for 198 yards, without a turnover. The Packers failed to move the chains on eight of 10 third downs. Jones was stuffed on fourth-and-inches by Harrison Smith, Danielle Hunter and Eric Kendricks midway through the third quarter Dean Lowry Jersey White , giving the Vikings the ball at the Green Bay 44. That set up a 37-yard field goal by Dan Bailey for Minnesota’s first lead of the game.“We’re definitely not in the position, record-wise, we thought we would be in coming into the year or even after this game. We thought we could get the victory. But unfortunately we ran out of gas,” Packers linebacker Clay Matthews said. “We’re beat up, no doubt about that. But give them credit: They put in a full four quarters.”SLOW STARTThe Vikings outgained the Packers 280-139 in total yardage in the first half, but they had to settle for a tie at the break. About to go for it on fourth-and-inches on the opening drive following a timeout to strategize, they were penalized for 12 men on the field and had to punt.Diggs collided with Thielen when Jaire Alexander crashed their pick play on the second possession, and after Diggs tried to circle back the other way with an ill-fated salvage attempt he lost 10 yards on that reception to lead to another punt.Bailey’s wide left 48-yard try wasted another highlight-reel catch by Thielen in between Alexander and Josh Jones that went for 33 yards. Later in the second quarter, after some mismanagement of the clock http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-jake-ryan-jersey , the Vikings had to hustle to set up a 51-yard kick for Bailey. That one was good, but Rashod Hill was called for a false start. The 56-yarder sliced right, the fifth straight missed field goal against the Packers after rookie Daniel Carlson went 0 for 3 in Green Bay and was cut the next day.PACKED AND HAPPY HOUSEThe announced attendance of 66,872 was the largest for the Vikings in three years at U.S. Bank Stadium. A handful of Minnesota players were introduced in the first quarter with Paul Bunyan’s Axe, the trophy the Gophers repossessed from the rival Badgers in Wisconsin on Saturday to end a 14-game losing streak. Randy Moss kept the crowd fired up in a halftime ceremony to receive his Pro Football Hall of Fame ring.INJURY REPORTPackers: In addition to the carnage on offense, SS Kentrell Brice aggravated an ankle injury in the first quarter and was knocked out of action in the third quarter with a possible concussion. CB Kevin King and CB Bashaud Breeland were already inactive with injuries.Vikings: RT Brian O’Neill left in the third quarter for evaluation for a possible concussion. … CB Xavier Rhodes limped off with an apparent injury to his right hamstring in the fourth quarter.UP NEXTPackers: Host Arizona (2-9) next Sunday afternoon.Vikings: Play at New England (8-3) next Sunday afternoon.

The Bengals needed to make some plays late in the game Cheap Germaine Pratt Jersey , but their biggest playmaker was sitting on a Gatorade jug.But wide receiver A.J. Green said that he didn’t think he’d miss any more time, after leaving yesterday’s loss to the Panthers early in the third quarter with a groin injury.“At first when I did it I didn鈥檛 feel anything,” Green said, via Fletcher Page of the Cincinnati Enquirer. “I thought the air got knocked out of me and then I got up and I was like, 鈥楾his hurts a little bit.鈥?I didn鈥檛 feel anything pop or anything like that, so I should be fine. . . .“Oh, yeah. I鈥檒l be fine. I just fell awkwardly. I did the same thing college.”The Bengals offense was far from fine without him, as they were held scoreless in the fourth quarter. There were times they moved the ball, but Andy Dalton threw four interceptions.“He鈥檚 the best receiver in the league and when you have him on your team and he鈥檚 not there anymore obviously it changes things,” Dalton said.As long as Green’s diagnosis that it’s “just another bruise” holds up, it’s good news for the Bengals, as there were moments when they moved the ball. Wide receiver Tyler聽Boyd had a career-high 132 yards and two touchdowns in his absence. Bengals fans have been pleading since 2017 for the team to feed Joe Mixon the ball. They finally got the breakout performance they were waiting for as Mixon ran the ball 21 times for 123 yards and two touchdowns in Week 8 against the Buccaneers. But are the Bengals still not getting enough out of Mixon? Mixon is a talented pass-catcher, but despite the absence of Giovani Bernard he only had three receptions against the Buccaneers. As of Week 8 Germaine Pratt Jersey Womens , Mixon and Bernard have only combined for 33 receptions on the season. With Bernard expected to return from injury following the bye, the Bengals need to find a way to best-utilize both players. The Bengals would be wise to create opportunities in the pass game for these talented backs.I broke down 11 running backs in 16 games from the last three seasons to find ways the Bengals could better utilize Mixon and Bernard in the pass game. Here are some ideas. Here’s a pretty simple look from the Giants to get the ball in the hands of Saquon Barkley. They free release him (no pass protection responsibility) and allow him to use his athletic ability to get inside leverage and get open for an easy reception. Getting the ball to a Mixon or Bernard is about what they can do after the catch. Running a play like this can be even more effective against a zone coverage where the back may be able to find a soft spot in which they have plenty of room to run after the catch. The running back doesn’t have to free release to make plays in the pass game. Christian McCaffrey is slow to get out on this rep, but this creates more space as the Falcons’ defense drops deep in zone coverage. Todd Gurley shows on this rep how short passes to running backs can pay big dividends. Gurley has as step on the defender and Jared Goff puts the ball where he can catch it in stride. This allows Gurley to turn up field and make this short pass a big play for the Rams. In today’s NFL, running backs don’t carry the ball with the same volume as they did in year’s past. In order to make the fullest use out of a top back like Gurley or Mixon, offensive coordinators need to scheme to get them the ball in the pass game. This is a simple swing pass to Alvin Kamara, but it puts the ball in his hands in a position where he can use his athletic ability to make a play. Mixon and Bernard are both excellent in this position. Mixon looks great on the edge on tosses and counter plays. This would be a great way to utilize his athletic ability. Here the swing by Melvin Gordon is intended to affect the linebacker by causing him to extend. If he widens with Gordon, it would open up the crossing route. The linebacker hesitates so Philip Rivers delivers the ball to Gordon for an easy gain. This play works on a similar concept. The drag clears out the inside linebacker, which creates space for Tarik Cohen to catch the ball for a touchdown. The Bengals run a number of in-cutting routes with A.J. Green and Tyler Boyd in particular. A play like this would build off of those plays and be a great complement to allow Mixon and Bernard to make plays in the pass game. The Bengals’ lack of screens is criminal. This is a simple middle screen that Cohen turns into a big play. Running more screens has the added advantage of slowing down the pass rush. This play is both a play action pass and a screen. This is the kind of creative play design that coaches like Sean McVay and Andy Reid have become famous for. As linebackers recognize a play action pass, they often turn and run to get into their pass drop. That opens up space underneath for Gurley with blockers in front of him. Here, Kamara is lined up as a wide receiver, and Drew Brees simply throws him the ball right away. The wide receivers block the closest defensive backs and offensive linemen release downfield for blocks as well. With Bernard returning, the Bengals should look to get both players on the field at once, and one way to do that is by lining up one or both at wide receiver. Lining Mixon up at receiver would also allow the Bengals to motion him and give him the ball on jet sweeps Germaine Pratt Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , utilizing his speed on the edge.A simple concept in the passing game is getting defenders to move in one direction and then sending a receiver to the evacuated space. Here, the receiver runs the slant and Kamara free releases to the flat. The cornerback follows the slant, which opens Kamara up for a quick gain. This would be another great opportunity to get Mixon the ball on the edge. This is really the same concept, but from a different look. The Bears are in a tight bunch set with three receivers on the bottom of the screen. With all three lined up so tightly, the defense needs to be concerned with these receivers releasing in different directions, crossing each other and picking the defense. Essentially, that is what they do, but instead of setting picking defenders to open up one of the receivers, the play is designed to open up the running back. One of the receivers releases vertically, the other two release inside and hitch up, creating a wall that the defenders have to get around to get to the outside. Cohen releases up the middle, then cuts to the right and is open with space in the flat. This is great play design and would create a great opportunity for Mixon. Gurley is lined up at receiver here and runs the arrow route to the outside while the two receivers outside of him release up field. Again, this leaves the defense creating enough room for Gurley to be wide open for a touchdown.Running backs can get in on the other side of the slant/out concept. Here Germaine Pratt Jersey 2019 , Kamara is lined up wide on the bottom of the screen and runs a slant. The slot receiver runs an out route, pulling the defender away and creating space for Kamara to catch and run after the catch.Let’s move on to a team that’s always getting creative. You guessed it, it’s the Patriots. Here, they motion James White to a stack position over wide receiver Chris Hogan. This is a great route by White who starts his release inside of Hogan, then jump-cuts to toe outside, before releasing inside on the drag. This is an excellent example of a running back using his unique skill set to get open in the pass game. Mixon’s jump-cuts as a runner are very impressive, but they could also help him get open in the pass game. Now let’s take a look at the Falcons. Tevin Coleman motions out to a receiver position at the top of the screen. The tight end releases vertically, and Coleman cuts inside of him, opening him up for a big play.On the very next play, Devonta Freeman motions out and looks to get cutting inside on a slant route. Having just given up a big play to a running back on an in-cutting route, the Broncos are primed to play this route and the defender jumps inside. Freeman then whips back to the outside for the reception on this excellent complimentary play. Another great complement to the slant route is the sluggo route. The sluggo is a slant-and-go. The Bengals will see Chargers back Austin Ekeler later this year, and here he runs the sluggo perfectly at the top of the screen. He takes a couple of quick steps to the slant, then releases vertically outside of the corner and is open for the deep pass in the endzone. The Bengals should be lining Mixon and Bernard up at receiver. As the slant route is a common route for running backs lined up at receiver to run Germaine Pratt Jersey Mens , running complementary routes such as the whip (above) and the sluggo will create opportunities for Mixon and Bernard to use their agility to create big plays.Running a wheel route from the backfield creates a huge home run opportunity for an offense. Here the Bears use play action than Cohenwheels up the sideline as the receivers take the cornerback and middle safety out of the play by releasing vertically in the seams. This ensures that Cohen is matched up man-to-man with a linebacker, which predictably results in a touchdown for the Bears. This is another play that could be huge for Mixon or Bernard. It fits well with their skill set and gives the Bengals potential for a big play. Here is another big play on a wheel by Cohen; this time he is line up as the third receiver. It is a post/wheel concept with the number one receiver (the furthest outside) running the post, the number two receiver running a hitch, and Cohen running the wheel from the number three position. Again, this is a huge play for Cohen and the Bears as the cornerback chases the post, leaving Cohen wide open.On this play Ekeler free releases to the single receiver side and is covered man to man by a linebacker. He runs a corner route for a touchdown. Again, it is about the matchup. When teams are in man coverage the Bengals can get a mismatch by free releasing a running back. Running a deep route against a less athletic defender allows Ekeler to get wide open for the score and Mixon and Bernard could do the same.In a league where offenses are exploding, the Bengals need to keep up. Tyler Eifert is out for the season, John Ross is frequently injured, and now A.J. Green is expected to miss multiple games. That means the Bengals need to find ways to get the ball to other playmakers. Having Mixon and Bernard on the field together and getting both extensively involved in the passing game could give the Bengals offense what it needs to be among the top units in the league.

How will the NFL schedule-makers treat the Lions this year?"On Tuesday Graham Glasgow Jersey White , the NFL announced that the 2019 regular season schedule will be released on Wednesday at 8 p.m. ET. While some of the excitement of the event has already been spoiled since we already know the Detroit Lions 2019 home and away opponents, the real excitement is seeing how many nationally televised games they’ll have this season. We already know the Lions will have the Thanksgiving Day Classic—in spite of efforts from the Eagles to take them on the road—but will the Lions break into the primetime audience after a disappointing 6-10 season? Today’s Question of the Day is:How many primetime games do you think the Lions will have on their initial schedule? My answer: It would be hard to justify more than one. The Lions weren’t only disappointing in 2019, but they were actually quite boring, too. Their offense was no longer the highlight machine it used to be, and the thrilling fourth-quarter comebacks were gone. The defense was even tougher to watch, especially in the first half of the season. That being said http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-tracy-walker-jersey , there are reasons to believe Detroit could be more thrilling this year. A new offensive coordinator is in town, the Lions grabbed arguably the best defensive player in free agency, and with a top-10 pick coming in (pending a trade), the Lions could be one of the better bounce-back stories in 2019.However, if I were the NFL, I’d hedge my bets. If the Lions turn out to be a surprise team in 2019 Miles Killebrew Jersey White , then you can flex them into primetime for “Sunday Night Football.” Otherwise, they’re a hard sell nationally right now.Your turn. The contract terms are out, and they’re fairly modest."While the exact details of tight end Jesse James’ contract are still unknown, we now have a general idea of what the Detroit Lions are paying for their newest tight end. According to a report from Ian Rapoport, the two sides have agreed on a four-year deal worth $25 million. That comes out to an average of $6.25 million per year, which is the exact deal that the Bills gave fellow free agent tight end Tyler Kroft (three years Womens Jalen Reeves-Maybin Jersey , $18.75 million). But perhaps the most important number here is guaranteed money. According to Rapoport, James is only getting $11 million guaranteed on the four-year deal. Considering James is likely to hit that $11 million in cash paid out (depending on his yearly salaries) by his second year, it increases the likelihood that Detroit will be able to get out of the contract by Year 3 with minimal dead cap, if desired. In terms of average per year, James’ $6.25 million current ranks 15th among all NFL tight ends. With NFL salaries grow annually, there’s a good chance that as soon as next year Theo Riddick Jersey White , James’ contract will drop out of the top 20 entirely.

After picking up two premium edge defenders in free agency Youth Elgton Jenkins Jersey , how could Green Bay’s draft priorities shift? rushing in sub-package next to Za’Darius Smith, a disruptive interior player, with Preston Smith coming off the edge. Oliver boasts such freak athleticism that some NFL teams were asking him to do linebacker drills at the Combine, something he practiced in the offseason even with the added weight. Though the 21-year-old lacks the ideal length and height to be a 3-4 defensive end, he profiles similarly to Daniels as a shorter, powerful rusher with quickness and burst. He could easily slide into the role as a three technique defensive tackle next to Clark at the nose without changing much of anything should the Packers choose to move on from Daniels. Let Oliver do what Oliver does White Elgton Jenkins Jersey , much like Pettine deploys Daniels, another guy without the ideal body type to control blockers with his length. It’s not that Brian Gutekunst should ignore possible edge rushers with the 12th pick, or that offensive line help wouldn’t buoy the talent levels of the Packers in similar ways. Green Bay certainly needs to play for the future at offensive line and a team can never have too much pass rush. But that’s the interesting part of Oliver’s skillset for Pettine and the Packers: he can be a pass rusher on the interior, a place Pettine truly prioritizes. The league has recognized how much easier it is to mitigate the impact of edge rushers, but defensive tackles who can win early are nearly impossible to stop from being disruptive. Just ask the teams who have to play Aaron Donald twice a year. Oliver doesn’t have to be Donald to be valuable. The Packers can find offensive line help later. Dalton Risner may fall to 30 and Chris Lindstrom almost assuredly will be there. The 12th pick feels too early for guys like Devin Bush or T.J. Hockenson, even if each are tantalizing talents who would have long-term roles with the Packers. It’s a deep class of overhang defenders and tight ends. Receivers can came later. Find inside pass rush in a player who can help in 2019 before becoming a full-time player in 2020 next to Kenny Clark Dexter Williams Green Bay Packers Jersey , to form one of the most dynamic interior duos in football. If the Packers had not added the Smiths in free agency and if Montez Sweat or Brian Burns were still available at 12, the Packers may have felt the pull of an edge rusher was too great to pick Oliver, even despite his top-5 talent. That obstacle should now be gone (such that it ever existed in the first place).Oliver now represents a unique, high-upside talent play to throw a lightning bolt into a defense that just added some thunder on the outside. Over the next two weeks, Acme Packing Company will break down each position group on the Green Bay Packers and provide insight into how they performed during the 2018 season. Today, we examine the offensive line.Last offseason Dexter Williams Jersey 2019 , the Green Bay Packers rolled the dice on their interior offensive line. Already set at both tackle spots and center, the front office only brought in late-round pick Cole Madison and “street” free agent Byron Bell to compete with Justin McCray for the starting job at right guard. While none of those players seemed like top-flight starters, the team only needed one to surprise in order to hold down the position. The plan didn’t’ quite pan out. Madison never reported to training camp (and thus did not merit inclusion on this list) while McCray suffered a shoulder injury early in the season and ended up spending many weeks on the inactive list. That left Bell to start the majority of the Packers’ games at right guard.Byron BellHow acquired: Signed as “street” free agentStats: 12 game appearances, nine starts, 33 total pressures allowedBell, a longtime starting lineman with the Carolina Panthers Color Rush Dexter Williams Jersey , Tennessee Titans, and Dallas Cowboys, found himself without a team late into the offseason. The Packers scooped him up on a one-year deal on May 30. Bell didn’t offer much on paper, but the team felt that his experience could prove valuable should injuries press the veteran into duty for a few games.A few games turned into 12, nine of them starts. To his credit, Bell acquitted himself better than McCray Tramon Williams Jersey , who struggled early and often before a shoulder injury effectively ended his time as the Packers’ preferred starter at right guard. But Bell still allowed 33 total pressures during his 365 snaps, giving him the highest pressure rate of any offensive lineman in Green Bay (9 percent). The offense had plenty of problems in 2018, but the revolving door at right guard proved to be one of the worst.

Texans safety Andre Hal‘s football future was uncertain when he was diagnosed with lymphoma this offseason Jadeveon Clowney Jersey , but things brightened considerably as time passed.Hal’s cancer went into remission, he started practicing with the team last week and Saturday brought word that he’d been added to the 53-man roster ahead of the Week Seven game against the Jaguars. Hal also found out on Saturday that he would be in the lineup to cap an emotional week. Not only did Hal get back to work, but he also mourned the death of his father. Andre Hal Sr. died of a heart attack on Tuesday and his son said that his father “wanted to see me back on the field.”“It was great to be back. It felt great. It was a blessing,” Hal said, via ESPN.com. “Everybody was really excited for me. People didn’t really think I was going to come back. But I knew I was going to come back.”Hal was credited with one tackle in the win, but the biggest takeaways from the day weren’t found in the box score. Put on the YouTube ,Susan. It’s time to take a more in-depth look at Lonnie Johnson, one of the Texans’ second round draft picks."You’ve heard it before and you are about to hear it again. It’s the major theme of the Texans’ 2019 NFL Draft class. Lonnie Johnson has potential, size, length, strength, positive traits, and could eventually develop into a starting cornerback, but as of right now Greg Mancz Jersey White , he isn’t a starting caliber NFL cornerback. From an athletic standpoint, Johnson is a stoic figure who fits in among his colleagues. He’s 6’2” and 218 pounds. Has 32-5/8” arms. Pushed 225 lbs. up 15 times. Jumped high and far. Ran a 4.52 40 yard dash. His combine performance and body are only slightly different than Richard Sherman’s. Just because you’re big, however, doesn’t mean you’re physical. These two adjectives aren’t automatically joined together. They are two entirely different traits. Size is natural. Physicality is earned. Johnson is big, but he doesn’t play like it. As a coverage corner, Johnson doesn’t have the quickness to stick in front of receivers and mirror their routes. Johnson is a cornerback who has to use his size to his advantage to have success, and too often he doesn’t. The key component holding him back is his hands. He doesn’t knock receivers off track with his punch. Too often, he misses the correct target. This is a simple slant route where Johnson is in press man coverage. He sits in the chair and reads the receiver. He overreacts to the receiver’s outside jab, opening up an inside release. He’s extended wide. The punch needs to see his off hand hit the receiver’s chest. Instead he reaches with his inside hand and doesn’t knock the receiver off his route at all. It’s an empty grasp of air as he tumbles to his death. The wide receiver cuts inside wide open and just so happens to drop the ball.via GfycatThis is press coverage in the red zone against Texas A&M. Here Johnson is playing the receiver, not the ball; he’s focused on a possible fade. He has a monomaniacal focus on the receiver’s outside shoulder. The receiver is given a free release while he overpursues to remain fixed on this target. When the receiver cuts back to the sideline, Johnson slips on his break with long wild trudges, still playing the outside shoulder. Instead of cutting on the inside shoulder to get between the receiver and the quarterback to play the ball, Johnson takes a wider release that he can’t come back from. The inside reach with his left arm doesn’t affect the catch.via GfycatOn 3rd and 4 here, Johnson has outside placement against the receiver. The receiver takes an inside release and Johnson reacts. He slides inside Joel Heath Jersey , looking for a short throw, and misses his jam completely. His off-hand should be on the receiver’s chest. He overreacts to the inside release and ends up with his head on the receiver’s inside shoulder. The receiver swims over his death rattle. Johnson chases. The receiver loses him again at the top of his route once he breaks to the sideline.via GfycatJohnson overreacts to the receiver, gives him a free release, and doesn’t use his size to his advantage at all whatsoever. As a result, Georgia picks up an easy first down. The short area quickness just isn’t here to stick for Johnson to wide receivers. Johnson must get better at getting his hands on receivers; when he does, the hands must affect the receiver’s routes. He isn’t going to win with his feet. Those feet need to be cleaned up, too. Johnson wastes too many steps at the stem of the route, especially on routes when the receiver breaks off real bad. This is 2nd and 11. Johnson takes a traditional backpedal. The corner guesses and turns to run the sideline, even though the receiver doesn’t offer any indication he’s trying to torch him. After the receiver breaks, Johnson takes five additional steps before he maneuvers back to the ball. The receiver has caught the pass and is turned up field by the time he gets back. Over the years, Texans fans have seen Kareem Jackson give up so many super easy catches just like this.via GfycatWithout short area quickness, Johnson must learn how to use his hands to impede and disrupt the receiver’s route. He doesn’t stop or break on the ball well enough. His hands need to guide him to find the light switch. Until he figures it out, if he ever does, he’s going to give up plenty of short D.J. Reader Jersey White , easy catches when the receiver breaks back to the ball.via GfycatThis is how it needs to look all the time. Johnson is able to square up the receiver’s release. He shuffles and meets the receiver at his stem.He actually has his head and hands in the correct place. When the receiver shoves to create separation, Johnson is able to pull him back into him as they run laterally through the center of the field.via GfycatUntil Johnson learns how to play man coverage with hands and physicality, he’s going to be devoured by quick receivers who will run him off the line and leave him scurrying in place as they cut back to the ball, or he’ll get chewed up by receivers who are able to create free releases off the line of scrimmage and run unhindered downfield. Against fade routes, Johnson has the size and speed to run with receivers. He turns well and moves like an open faucet. He just doesn’t play the ball well at the catch point. In his career at Kentucky, Johnson only had one interception and eleven pass breakups. He allowed seven touchdowns, per Sports Info Solutions. On 3rd and 7, Johnson is worried about an inside move picking up the first down. When the receiver stutters off the line of scrimmage, he turns to put himself between the wideout and the quarterback in order to eviscerate the options the receiver has available to him. The ball catcher reacts by running down the sideline. Johnson turns and runs with him nicely, but once the receiver expands his route wide, he’s able to create a little bit of separation and get ahead of Johnson. Johnson turns to play the ball by watching the receiver. He misjudges the ball and raises his arm too early. The receiver is able to run off his coverage and let the ball drop into his basket.via GfycatHere’s more man coverage versus a fade, but this sees Johnson utilize a traditional backpedal. He breaks, turns, and runs at the correct moment http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-nick-martin-jersey , displaying adequate acceleration. He just doesn’t find the football. When the receiver squeezes the brakes to slow down, Johnson doesn’t. He looks downfield for the ball instead of reacting to the receiver to find the ball. He’s oblivious with his back turned to it and fortunate the receiver doesn’t come down with this one.via GfycatHere he’s beat by sideline speed. The stutter leaves him thinking inside route, giving the receiver a free outside release. The ball is underthrown, which allows Johnson to come back and play the ball. At least here Johnson plays the receiver well and is able to use his size to maul the receiver when the catch is attempted.via GfycatAgain, short area foot speed is a problem for the second round pick. Johnson is going to get beat deep sometimes. He must learn how to play the ball better so he can recover when routes like this happen. This needs to be the norm, not a rare occurrence. The lack of physicality is seen on Johnson’s tackle attempts as well. Johnson doesn’t tackle players well head up. He loves to make tackles when the perfect opportunity arises, when the receiver has his back to the ball and is walloped right when he makes the catch. That’s when Johnson tackles.via Gfycat via GfycatHe struggles to bring ball carriers down when he faces them head up. He second-guesses and stops his momentum to square up ball carriers. When he does this, the lack of quickness hurts him again. He can’t react and meet the ball carrier again. Johnson needs to be a bullet.via GfycatThere’s a general lack of feel for how to come from the cornerback position to tackle. Johnson doesn’t understand pursuit angles. He walks and then tries to sprint back to the ball, which allows touchdowns and big plays. He doesn’t know how to fill and fit in the run game. He gets blocked way too easily for a guy his size.He needs to learn how to utilize it to get around blocks, be the hammer, and make plays.via Gfycat via Gfycat via Gfycat via GfycatJohnson is a size prospect. He has too many holes in his game to expect him to be able to start as a boundary corner right away. He doesn’t have the quickness to play in the slot either. This is a problem. The Texans didn’t improve their interior pass rush this offseason. They signed Bradley Roby, who is a liability as a CB1 and struggles against the best receivers in the league. Johnathan Joseph is old and can’t stick on downfield routes anymore. The Texans needed a cornerback who can contribute right now, right away. Johnson isn’t the man coverage corner they needed. The one way Johnson should see the field in 2019 is in Cover Three and Cover Four. In these coverages, where Johnson takes on a quadrant Andre Hal Jersey White , turns, runs along the sideline, and then plays the ball from there, he could be playable as a rookie. He understands zone coverage well. He knows how to peel off from one receiver to another and find the ball, as seen in this Citrus Bowl interception and that previous flat route tackle.via GfycatEven then, Johnson still doesn’t have the ball skills required to shut down receivers along the sideline. Cover Three and Cover Four are the best chances for Johnson to contribute, but it still isn’t a flawless or safe option. Lonnie Johnson is length and strength. He needs to learn how to utilize it. A body. A project. Hopefully his rookie season plays out like the first hour of a comic movie, with him spending 2019 figuring out how to use his powers. Maybe one day he will, but for now, Johnson will be a liability on the field unless he’s used in specific zone coverage situations. In 2019, get ready for Roby and Joseph, with Briean Boddy-Calhoun and Aaron Colvin in the slot, as the Texans’ pass defense prays that Jadeveon Clowney and J.J. Watt find a way to get to the quarterback.

Film Room: Bengals WR John Ross is more than just a burner John Ross might have been better off if he never set the NFL Combine record in the 40 yard dash. For some reason Michael Jordan Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , it seems like people see that he accomplished that feat and think that is all he is: just another speedster and not a complete player. Those people are wrong. Ross is an extremely talented route runner who has excellent hands. His speed is merely the icing on the cake. As he returns from a rookie campaign defined by injury, can he have the sophomore bump that William Jackson experienced in 2017? Ross’s athleticism is not just about speed. In the clip below he taps his feet and postures himself as if he is going for an inside release. This causes the cornerback’s feet to get wide and allows Ross to release to the outside, unaccosted and gives the quarterback enough space to put the ball to Ross’ outside shoulder. It takes more than just speed to get open in the NFL. Fortunately Ross is a skilled route runner. In the clip below the Washington product stems his route to the outside and flashes his shoulders. This causes the defensive back (most likely terrified of Ross’ speed) to break on an out-cutting route that wasn’t coming. Ross places himself just inside the defender and takes his route up the seams for a touchdown.Ross is not just fast, he is quick. Here in the Bengals’ preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys, Ross lowers his hips and chops his feet to make an inside cut. He has the burst to create separation quickly giving the quarrterback a window to make the throw. Ross takes a shot from the safety at the end, but holds onto the ball for a two-point conversion giving the Bengals the lead. In the two clips below Carlos Dunlap Jersey , Ross demonstrates his ability to adjust to poor ball placement. In the clip against Cal (in blue) he gets adjusted to the low pass and makes the reception in the end zone. In the clip against Utah (in red) he not only adjusts to the pass thrown behind him, but still managers to beat the three nearby defenders into the end zone.Ross also has excellent hands, but in the clip below he only needed one. As his quarterback was in trouble and threw up a prayer, Ross goes up vertically and pulls the ball down with one hand. As if this wasn’t impressive enough, he turns it up field for a touchdown. This is the kind of playmaker the Bengals have been looking to put opposite A.J. Green.Making a tough catch isn’t always about doing something ridiculous athletically as was the case above. In the clip below, Ross has a defender hanging on him Geno Atkins Jersey , but keeps his eyes on the ball and comes down with the touchdown catch. With speed like Ross’ he will be hard for defenders to catch in the open field, even if they have a good angle. Here, Ross shows that he also has the agility and vision to makedefenders who are in front of him miss. In the Bengals’ third preseason game, fans finally saw the connection they have been waiting to see since the team drafted Ross in 2017: Dalton to Ross. Ross showed incredible agility to make two defenders miss and find his way into the endzone. Ross’ athleticism holds up against NFL competition. In the clip below from the Bengals’ first preseason game this year, Ross jukes the Chicago defender to turn a short gain into a long one that set up a touchdown. The Bengals didn’t just draft Ross to catch deep balls, they drafted him to makes plays after the catch and he has shown he can do just that.Ross may be the fastest man in the history of the NFL Combine Michael Jordan Jersey 2019 , but he is so much more than that. He runs very good routes and has excellent ball skills. If he can emerge as the Bengals’ No. 2 receiver, the offense could be extremely prolific in 2018.Bengals’ Super Bowl odds rise after 2-0 start The Bengals have been one of the NFL’s surprise teams through the first two weeks. Not many expected the Bengals to be 2-0 at this point, especially oddsmakers, who had the Bengals listed as underdogs in each of their first two wins. But the Bengals continue to prove their doubters wrong, and the oddsmakers are taking notice...sort of. Ahead of Week 3, the Bengals now have the 16th-best odds to win the Super Bowl: Sure Michael Jordan Jersey Womens , 16th-best doesn’t sound particularly great, but it’s a huge improvement from where the Bengals have been at various points since the 2018 offseason began. They’ve gotten pretty close to having the worst odds at time, so just climbing to No. 16 is a big improvement, and it shows just how far the Bengals have already come just two weeks into the season.Of course, the Bengals don’t want to settle for this, and neither does the fanbase. Having the 16th-best odds will mean you probably have a 50-50 shot of making the playoffs. You want that number to keep rising throughout the season Youth Michael Jordan Jersey , which will signal the Bengals are getting closer to a playoff berth. At 2-0, they’re off to a good start, but they probably need to win at least eight more games to feel good about clinching a playoff berth. It is nice to be a fifth of the way there after just two games with 14 left to be played.

GREEN BAY Color Rush Amani Oruwariye Jersey , Wis. (AP) — Detroit Lions kicker Matt Prater lined up for a field goal but seemed a little antsy, gesturing with his arms like a quarterback calling for a shotgun snap.It turns out that was exactly what it was.Prater’s 8-yard pass on a fake field-goal try was a high and a little wobbly, but Levine Toilolo was so wide open in the end zone that it didn’t matter. The Lions’ beleaguered season ended on a high note on Sunday, when almost everything went right for Detroit in a 31-0 win over the Green Bay Packers.“Basically I was trying not to screw it up,” Prater said. “It worked out, so it was fun.”Not so much for the Packers (6-9-1), who trailed 21-0 at the half and lost Aaron Rodgers early in the second quarter after to a concussion. The quarterback was sacked and lost his helmet on the second play of the game.Rodgers played two more series before departing. The offense never got going even when he was behind center.“Yeah, it was hard. We just didn’t have any rhythm,” interim head coach Joe Philbin said. Both teams had long been eliminated from playoff contention. But the Lions (6-10) at least got a little positive push at the end of Matt Patricia’s first season as coach.Matthew Stafford threw for 266 yards and two scores, both to T.J. Jones . Zach Zenner had a 13-yard touchdown run for the Lions Cheap Amani Oruwariye Jersey , who have won four straight against their NFC North rival for the first time since 1982-83. That was one bright spot for a last-place Detroit team.“I think those guys fought all year. I think they’re tough — mentally and physically tough,” Patricia said. “It showed up in the game today.”SHORT ON RECEIVERSThe Lions’ passing game clicked despite a depleted receiving corps, with Kenny Golladay missing the relatively meaningless game with a chest injury. The Lions had decisive edges in total yards (261-67) and first downs (16-3) by halftime, with 11 of the first downs coming through the air.Zenner finished with 93 yards on 21 carries. Stafford was 20 of 32, while rookie Brandon Powell had six catches for 103 yards“It was an opportunity for them and obviously it was a big stage,” Stafford said about working with the young receivers. “Not an easy day to catch the football, wind swirling, cold, Lambeau Field.”FINE FAKEPrater’s touchdown pass gave the Lions a 14-0 lead with 10:36 left in the second quarter.“Slow delivery, lollipop Amani Oruwariye Jersey Womens , but it was on target so that was a plus,” Stafford joked when asked about the kicker’s throw.OVER AND OUTRodgers walked back to the locker room around the same time his teammates were getting over the shock of Detroit’s trick play.It was unclear exactly when Rodgers got hurt. He was 3 of 5 for 26 yards, not the way he wanted to finish even in a meaningless game.“I said, ‘How long are you playing?’ He said, ‘I’m going the distance,'” linebacker Clay Matthews said, recounting a pregame talk with Rodgers. “I said, ‘All right, I’ll be out there with you in the fourth.’ But it didn’t play out like that.”The Packers were also without receiver Davante Adams, who missed practice this week with a knee injury. Adams finished the season with 111 catches Amani Oruwariye Detroit Lions Jersey , one shy of tying the single-season franchise record set by Sterling Sharpe in 1993.Backup DeShone Kizer finished 16 of 35 for 132 yards and an interception, while Jamaal Williams managed just four yards on eight carries.Green Bay didn’t top 100 yards in total offense until the third quarter.UNCERTAIN FUTUREThere is uncertainty in Titletown following a second straight losing season and the firing of coach Mike McCarthy in early December. Philbin, the offensive coordinator, went 2-2 as interim coach. When asked when he would interview for a chance to take the job permanently, Philbin deferred any questions to team president Mark Murphy, who is leading the search.Rodgers and Adams have each voiced support over the past couple weeks for Philbin.“I was very appreciative of all the things they did all season and in the four weeks that I was leading them,” Philbin said in recounting his postgame message. “And that we would get together tomorrow, we’re going to have a brief team meeting tomorrow and we’ll go from there.” CHICAGO (AP) — Mitchell Trubisky locked in right from the start, whether he was firing downfield or making the right read underneath the defense. It added up to one of his best performances as a pro, not to mention a rare win for Chicago against Detroit and an NFC North rival.Trubisky threw for a career-high 355 yards and three touchdowns Amani Oruwariye Jersey 2019 , and the first-place Bears beat the Lions 34-22 to snap a 10-game losing streak against division opponents on Sunday. The Bears (6-3) had dropped nine of 10 against Detroit (3-6) and were seeking their first victory over a division opponent since Oct. 31, 2016, against Minnesota.Chicago jumped out to a 26-7 halftime lead with Trubisky and Allen Robinson leading the way. And the Bears surpassed their win total from last year with their third straight victory ."We were just out there having fun today," Trubisky said. "Everyone was doing their job. We just went out there and played. And the plays made themselves because we were just going out there not thinking, just translating the work from practice on gameday."Though he threw for six touchdowns against Tampa Bay earlier this season, Trubisky had one of his best games since the Bears took him with the No. 2 pick in the 2017 draft. He completed 23 of 30 passes and finished with a 148.6 rating. He also ran for a 4-yard touchdown."He's playing his tail off right now," coach Matt Nagy said. "I love where he's at."Allen Robinson caught six passes for 133 yards and two TDs after missing two games with a groin injury.Rookie Anthony Miller added a career-high 122 yards on five receptions, including a 45-yard TD and a 55-yard catch.Khalil Mack had two of Chicago's six sacks against Matthew Stafford — both in the second half after missing back-to-back games with an injured right ankle.Bryce Callahan had a sack and an interception.About the only downer for the Bears was Cody Parkey hitting uprights while missing two extra points and two field goals.Things were so bad for him that fans cheered sarcastically when he made an extra point late in the first half and let out a loud roar when the Bears went for a 2-point conversion after a touchdown by Robinson in the third."Of course (coaches are) frustrated with me but who's more frustrated than myself?" Parkey said. "This is my job, this is what I'm supposed to do and I'm missing out there. So I mean I've just got to trust in what I'm doing."Parkey's misses didn't stop the Bears from opening a three-game stretch against division opponents on a winning note.Detroit dropped its third in a row after back-to-back victories.Stafford was consistently under pressure again after getting sacked 10 times against Minnesota the previous week. He was 25 of 42 for 274 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions."We're fighting Amani Oruwariye Jersey Womens , nobody can say we're not fighting until the very end," said running back Kerryon Johnson, who scored from the 1 near the end of the first half."Problem is we start off slow and then the fight at the end doesn't matter. We just have to come out, and get better at the beginning. Keep on doing what we're doing at the end and put it all together."STRONG STARTTrubisky had a 158.3 rating at halftime after going 14 of 16 for 209 yards and two touchdowns with the Bears predominantly in a no-huddle offense.Coming off a 41-9 romp at Buffalo, Chicago scored on its first four possessions to grab a 26-0 lead. Robinson set up Tarik Cohen's 3-yard touchdown on the game's opening drive when he turned a slant into a 35-yard gain, breaking a tackle by DeShawn Shead on a 35-yard slant. Parkey hit the right upright on the extra-point attempt. But the Bears kept rolling from there.KICKED OUTNagy insisted he still trusts Parkey and the Bears won't look to bring in another kicker."There's zero chance of that happening," he said.Nagy also dismissed the idea of having Parkey practice at Soldier Field during the week, saying "it's pretty windy up at Halas Hall" in suburban Lake Forest, where the team is headquartered.INJURIESLions: TE Michael Roberts suffered a shoulder injury when he was tackled making a 9-yard catch early in the fourth quarter. … WR Marvin Jones Jr. hurt a knee.UP NEXTLions: Host Carolina on Nov. 18.Bears: Host Minnesota on Nov. 18.

With their first pick in the first-round Darnell Savage Jersey 2019 , the experts are projecting..."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCSTShareTweetShareSharePackers Mock Draft Roundup: Whether it’s an EDGE, Ed Oliver, or LB, pick #12 is all defense Tommy Gilligan-USA TODAY SportsThe name of the game for the Green Bay Packers in the most recent round-up of mock drafts is Trade, Trade, Trade. Both CBS Sports and USA Today have the Packers involved in a trade of some kind, one of which we’ll get to later, but there’s a move-down trade we’ll address in this piece. The general consensus among these mock drafts also include the Packers using their first pick in the first round on a defensive player, most commonly an edge rusher. Adding pieces to the defense is key to having the Packers get back into the playoffs considering how many players on that side might be allowed to walk or get cut this offseason. CBS Sports: Ed Oliver Color Rush Darnell Savage Jersey , DT, Houston Pick 12Muhammad Wilkerson has told The Athletic that he would like to return to Green Bay and another one-year prove-it deal would be beneficial to both sides, They already have Pro Bowl-level talent in Mike Daniels and Kenny Clark, and Montravius Adams can provide some stability in relief downs. Adding Ed Oliver would be a great luxury for the Packers, though. As we saw last year, D-Line depth is important to Mike Pettine’s defense and losing Daniels for stretches and Wilkerson for the majority of the season really hampered their ability to win in the trenches. Oliver is an explosive athlete who could be moved all around the defensive line. Though he’s not an EDGE player, he can still get after the quarterback very effectively.USA Today: Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida StatePick 23USA Today’s mock draft has the Packers trading back two different times to accumulate draft picks Cheap Darnell Savage Jersey , but still get a solid EDGE player who should probably be drafted higher. Burns is an explosive prospect who already has pretty solid technique. His ability to put his hand in the turf or stand up is enticing for the Packers’ 3-4 defense. While Burns is a great athlete with good change of direction ability, he does need to add a little bit more size so he doesn’t get pushed around by bigger, more refined NFL offensive linemen. His length makes him a fun prospect, but if he adds weight, you have to hope that doesn’t impact his athleticism.SB Nation & The Ringer: Jachai Polite, EDGE, FloridaPick 12Meanwhile, there’s another EDGE in the state of Florida who could come in and make life difficult for opposing QBs in the NFC North. Polite will cut his teeth as a pass-rush specialist early on in his career, but once he adds a little more bulk Darnell Savage Jersey Womens , he should be able to become more well-rounded in defending against the run. He’ll also need to work on discipline in maintaining the edge during run plays. His athleticism is freakish, however raw he may be. Polite has great burst and flexibility coming around the corner. Much like Burns, Polite has experience starting in a two-point or three-point stance which will be essential in Pettine’s defense.Bleacher Report: Devin White, LB, LSUPick 12It’s no secret that I was really high on picking up Roquan Smith last year. The Packers unfortunately didn’t get a shot at him with the Bears scooping him up, but I was enamored with the idea of how a sideline-to-sideline linebacker could open up more possibilities in Pettine’s defense. Devin White can be that type of player, but also a little more stout that Smith in terms of stopping the run and shedding blocks. White’s closing speed is fantastic and watching him drop into coverage and effect plays in zone coverage would be a great compliment to the sure-tackler, Blake Martinez. The top-15 in these mock drafts is a fairly muddled mess of defenders with one or two quarterbacks sprinkled in, so it’s difficult to tell if the Packers would get another chance at a star-potential linebacker Darnell Savage Green Bay Packers Jersey , or watch him picked up right before. Fullback John Kuhn was out of the NFL in 2018, but he didn’t announce his retirement as an active player as the year played out. That announcement came on Wednesday. The Packers released the news about a player who spent nine of his 12 seasons in Green Bay.“John was a terrific football player and tremendous teammate who contributed to many years of success for the Packers,” Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst said in a statement. “He was a true professional whose work ethic and leadership set a great example both on the field and in the locker room. We want to thank John and his family for all they did for the Packers and in the community as well as wish them nothing but the best.”Kuhn entered the league as an undrafted free agent with the Steelers and saw his first action in nine 2006 games for the team. He moved on to the Packers the next year and played in 139 games for the team over the next nine years. He won a Super Bowl, went to three Pro Bowls and closed out his career by playing two years with the Saints.Kuhn ran 217 times for 658 yards and 19 touchdowns and caught 98 passes for 642 yards and nine touchdowns over his entire career.

CLEVELAND (AP) — No awkward hug. No cold handshake. No holiday greeting.Baker Mayfield's only interaction with former coach Hue Jackson was an icy stare.Mayfield threw three touchdown passes to thrill a sellout Jeff Driskel Jersey , holiday-spirited crowd that came out to boo Jackson, and rookie Nick Chubb ran for 112 yard as the Cleveland Browns beat the Cincinnati Bengals 26-18 on Sunday to sweep their southern Ohio neighbors for the first time since 2002. "Quite honestly, I couldn't care about what happened in the past," Mayfield said. "It is about this year and we won. We are moving forward."The No. 1 pick in this year's draft continued his stellar rookie season, one that took off after Jackson was fired by the Browns on Oct. 29. Mayfield has thrown 24 TD passes, third most in NFL history by a rookie and just two shy of the record shared by Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson. With their fifth win in six games, the Browns (7-7-1) improved to 5-2 under interim coach Gregg Williams, who has gone from long shot to legitimate candidate to become Cleveland's next coach. It's only the second time since 2007 that the Browns have won at least seven games. The Bengals (6-9), on the other hand, are disintegrating under coach Marvin Lewis. They lost for the sixth time in seven games and are assured of finishing last in the AFC North, a spot the Browns have occupied every season since 2011.Cincinnati made it interesting as Jeff Driskel threw two TD passes in a two-minute stretch to get the Bengals close. However, Mayfield connected with tight end David Njoku for 66 yards just before the two-minute warning and the Browns ran out the clock.Following the long completion, Mayfield jogged past Jackson standing on the sideline and stared at his former coach, whom he called "fake" after their matchup last month in Cincinnati.Mayfield playfully denied he was showing up Jackson."I have no idea what you're talking about," he said.Told that the exchange was blowing up on social media, Mayfield said Shawn Williams Jersey , "That's all right. We won."Lewis spent little time discussing what went wrong, holding a news conference that lasted just over a minute."We came into this season thinking, ‘We can win this division,'" Driskel said. "You have to look at yourself and ask, ‘What can I do to prevent this next week or next season?'"Mayfield has Browns fans convinced there are glory days ahead. He challenged Clevelanders to fill FirstEnergy Stadium for the home finale, and they did show with a surge in ticket sales this week. The Browns were officially eliminated from the playoffs on Saturday. That hardly dampened the enthusiasm around a team that has recovered from a 0-16 season and become one of the league's best stories in 2018.Mayfield's the main reason. In the fourth quarter, fans chanted "Ba-ker, Ba-ker" after he scampered 10 yards. Moments later, they were roaring again after Mayfield stretched to reach for a first down before being shoved hard out of bounds by defensive end Carlos Dunlap, triggering a sideline skirmish near Cleveland's bench."It has been a good run," Mayfield said. "Obviously, we would love to be in the playoffs, but like I said earlier in the year, you know that you have to go through some tough times to see the brighter end of it."NO PASSING GRADEDriskel, making his fourth start for the injured Andy Dalton, was sacked three times and under duress all day. He completed two passes for 3 yards in the first half Darqueze Dennard Jersey , when the Bengals had minus-15 yards passing.TRICK AND TREATBrowns offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens went into his bag of tricks to set up Cleveland's second TD. On first down, the Browns ran a pass off a reverse with wide receiver Jarvis Landry threading a 63-yard pass — the ball traveled more than 50 yards in the air — to Breshad Perriman. Two plays later, Mayfield rolled right and found just enough space to throw a scoring pass to Darren Fells."I need to ice up my shoulder," joked Landry.ROOKIE RECORDChubb and set the franchise rookie rushing record for a season, previously held by Trent Richardson.STELLAR STARTMayfield has thrown at least one TD pass in each of his 12 starts. He trails only St. Louis' Kurt Warner (23 from 1999-00) and Minnesota's Brad Johnson (15 from 1996-97) for the most consecutive starts with a scoring pass to begin a career.MIXON MILESTONEBengals running back Joe Mixon came in leading the AFC in yards rushing and attempts and needing 5 yards to reach 1,000. He got them on his first carry, a 6-yard run in the first quarter. Mixon is the first Cincinnati back to reach the plateau since Jeremy Hill (2014).INJURIESBengals: LB Vontaze Burfict played most of the first half before going out with a concussion. He came in listed as questionable with a head injury that forced him to miss practice. … Starting CB Dre Kirkpatrick hurt his right shoulder in the first quarter and did not return.Browns: Pro Bowl rookie cornerback Denzel Ward is back in concussion protocol after getting hurt in the fourth quarter. Ward had just returned after missing the previous two games with a head injury.UP NEXTBengals: At Pittsburgh on Sunday.Browns: Finish season at Baltimore on Sunday. All hands were on deck in the Bengals monumental letdown at home against the Saints, including all eight rookies on the active roster. For the first time all season, the seven draft picks to make the initial 53-man roster were all active and played at least one snap from scrimmage, along with the one undrafted free agent to get promoted to the active roster this season. Here’s our rookie report for the Bengals 51-14 defeat to the Saints.Billy PriceEven without their first-round pick Marcus Davenport at defensive end, the Saints pass rush got the better of the Bengals offensive line in Price’s first game back. Fortunately for the Bengals’ first-round pick, he came away with a mostly clean game. The run blocking for Joe Mixon and Giovani Bernard was solid, even though they rarely got a chance to display it after the first quarter when the game was still competitive. Those around Price, however, underperformed to their standards. Left tackle Cordy Glenn and left guard Clint Boling allowed several pressures against the right-sided Saints pass rushers, and even right guard Trey Hopkins looked out of whack in his first game at the position this season. The cohesion between the group needs some time to re-adjust with Price back in the mix and if that was the cause for the troubles Giovani Bernard Jersey , then so be it. Price showed some definite rust in between it all, but it was good to see him out there moving regardless. Jessie BatesPer usual, Bates ended up extremely active as a tackler for the Bengals porous defense. The Bengals’ free safety finished with just four solo tackles, but added on seven assisted tackles for a combined 11. In coverage, Bates was untested for the vast majority of the game, as Saints quarterback Drew Brees only threw four of his 25 passes beyond 15 yards down the field, and the three that were completed weren’t in Bates’ coverage. It turns out that playing Jameis Winston isn’t as easy as playing Brees — Hell, or Ryan Fitzpatrick for that matter. The Bengals secondary looks to have had major communication issues during this historically bad stretch they’re on. Hopefully things get more clear for them with Marvin Lewis taking over as the de facto defensive coordinator, and Bates’ play improves because of it. Sam HubbardAs expected, it was defensive end Jordan Willis who got the first crack at replacing Carl Lawson as the team’s nickel edge rusher opposite of Carlos Dunlap and not Hubbard. By my count, Hubbard didn’t even see any snaps inside; he played most of the snaps in relief of Michael Johnson at right defensive end. While there, Hubbard didn’t see many pass-rushing snaps, and the rest of the Bengals’ defensive line was run over by the Saints offensive line in both the run and pass. The needle didn’t move much at all for Hubbard in this game, as his role seems largely unaffected by Lawson’s season-ending injury.Malik JeffersonFor the first time in his nine-game career, Jefferson got to play defense instead of just special teams. The bad news was, his team was down by multiple scores when he came into the game in the fourth quarter. He ended up with notching three tackles in the eight snaps he was on the field for Michael Johnson jersey , all from starting at a different alignment at linebacker.Unless the Bengals are down by five scores late in the second half of another game soon, we can’t expect Jefferson to emerge as a serious candidate for playing time — Jordan Evans and Vincent Rey’s struggles be damned. Jefferson couldn’t even get into the game until it was clearly over, and it’s not an indictment on him necessarily. Jefferson got plenty of time on the kickoff return team though, so there’s that.Mark WaltonWith Giovani Bernard back into the fold, Walton was all but nonexistent in the Bengals offense. He saw two of the 43 snaps on offense in relief of Joe Mixon and Bernard, and both involved him blocking in some manner. This is likely the reality for Walton as long as both Mixon and Bernard are both healthy, which was a rarity leading up to this week. He did play the most special teams in one game as he’s played all year with eight, and we should expect him to play around that number for the remaining of the year if he’ll be sidelined all game on offense.Darius PhillipsLike Bates, Phillips was spared from Brees’ wrath, as he was only targeted once — which resulted in a three-yard gain. His play has evened out nicely the more he’s played, and for as long as Darqueze Dennard is nursing his shoulder injury, Phillips will continue to gain more in-game experience. Auden TateIt appears that the Bengals offense without A.J. Green does not feature much of Tate. The end of the game looked a lot like a preseason game, so naturally that’s when Tate entered the game. The Bengals second touchdown drive featured seven plays, with Tate aligned as the left wide receiver for most of them. He ran three routes, and received one target that went incomplete off of his hands. Some will call it a drop, some would call it a bad throw from backup quarterback Jeff Driskel (it was more so the latter). Regardless Kevin Huber Jersey , it was a little disappointing to not see Tate out with the starters, but the team’s reluctance to give him any meaningful snaps was not surprising at all. Wide receiver Josh Malone’s hamstring injury is something to monitor this week, as his health will likely determine Tate’s game status with A.J. Green still sidelined with a bad foot.Jordan FranksJust like their Week 8 game against the Buccaneers, the Bengals trotted out Franks for one passing play against the Saints. Only this time, Franks was the target of the play. He once again stuck to special teams as Matt Lengel maintained his status as the No. 2 tight end. As soon as Tyler Kroft returns to practice, Franks figures to be sitting on the bench full-time. When that is, no one knows, but Franks won’t get any meaningful opportunities to stay on the field. The Bengals inactive list featured exclusively veterans, which allowed for all eight first-year players to dress and play on Sunday. Hopefully next week’s game against the Baltimore Ravens will feature a couple of those players that were inactive, which would likely take out a couple rookies from the dress list. Price will also be playing in just his fourth career game as we reached the middle of November, which will also be his second career meeting with the Ravens’ interior defensive line. The Ravens may also be starting a rookie of their own at quarterback in Lamar Jackson, which will be something Lewis’ young defense will be keeping tabs on all week as well.
