The Bengals were seen engaging with a top OL prospect."Now that the NFL combine is in the rear view mirror Billy Price Jersey , scouts and coaches will be making trips across the country to watch prospects workout up close at their school’s pro days. Tuesday kicked off the pro day circuit with Purdue and Miami (OH) holding their pro days, and a handful more had theirs yesterday. The Bengals had eyes at two pro days in particular.Just a few miles from Paul Brown Stadium, head coach Zac Taylor was seen at the University of Cincinnati’s pro day.Taylor was Cincinnati’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach the season before Luke Fickell took over the Bearcats football team. He hired Doug Rosfeld, who was the university’s director of player development when he and Taylor were both there, as his director of coaching operations just last month, so his connection with the school is clearly still strong.Cincinnati doesn’t have many potential NFL prospects, but one name to remember is defensive tackle Cortez Broughton, who produced at a high level for one of the top defenses in the nation in 2018.Staying in the midwest, the Bengals attended the Kansas State pro day and were seen talking with two of their biggest prospects offensive tackle Dalton Risner and running back Alex Barnes.Risner was a prominent figure at the Senior Bowl back in January and turned in a solid performance at the combine, but Barnes stole the show for the running backs. His 40-yard dash time of 4.59 and his vertical and broad jumps of 38.5 and 126 inches, respectively, were mightily impressive when considering his size at 6’0” and 226 pounds. The Bengals may not need to draft a running back early, but they will definitely be looking for an offensive tackle of Risner’s caliber early in the draft. The four-year starter played all over the Wildcats’ offensive line and is projected to be a late-first or early-second round pick by the time late April arrives. Indeed, Troy Aikman, who has been Fox’s lead analyst for 17 years, might have had his best season.Seemingly energized by having a true national game, in prime time with no competition, Aikman not only was spot-on with his analyses, he was more than willing to criticize play calling, performance and officiating.Presenting your convictions and then sticking to them is a must for a top analyst, and Aikman came through for viewers the way he did as a three-time Super Bowl champion quarterback for Dallas.“I think after 17 years of doing it somewhat the same way, this was an opportunity to kind of change up my schedule Ryan Finley Cincinnati Bengals Jersey ,” says Aikman, who at first had some reservations about balancing his family and business responsibilities.“I think that is fair to say ‘energized.’ It felt more like an event, being the only game, and in prime time. On Sunday afternoon, especially for the late game, it sure seems like that’s when most people prefer to view football. But the prime time has a little bigger of a feel to it.“We did not feel as restricted to the action on the field; we never feel completely restricted. It certainly freed me up and allowed me to have even more fun within the broadcast.”Fox also wound up with some very solid matchups with intriguing storylines. Yes, NBC had the season opener, a Thursday nighter hosted by the champion Eagles in a rematch of a January playoff game with the Falcons. That wound up 18-12, eerily similar to Philadelphia’s previous win over Atlanta. It also, of course, didn’t have two teams coming off short weeks. Then, Fox prospered with three of the better games of the entire season, games that wouldn’t have had the same cachet later in the schedule.Cincinnati’s 34-23 victory over Baltimore — look at where those two teams reside now! — was entertaining, with Andy Dalton torching the Ravens with four touchdown passes. It also had the added spice of the Bengals having knocked the Ravens out of playoff contention in the 2017 finale.A week later — and this was Aikman at his best, even if Jets fans swear play-by-play voice Joe Buck was outwardly rooting for the hosts — the Browns finally got a win, with Baker Mayfield stamping himself as an emerging force in just the third game of his rookie year.“There were so much expectations with Baker Mayfield in that city. The team had not won a lot of games, and the fans were expecting the team would start to win games, so there was this optimism around the city,” Aikman recalls.“Having been there for the preseason and then we go back in the regular season, you could just feel this energy building and it was a fan base that just wanted to celebrate. And then Baker comes off the bench to lead them to that victory. It was huge and fun to be a part of.”Jets-Cleveland was followed by the Rams‘ 38-31 shootout victory against the Vikings, when Jared Goff and Kirk Cousins combined for eight TD throws and 887 yards through the air.For those enamored of the video-game fireworks, well, that was nirvana. There was plenty of offense all year, even with only three full days between games. Oddly, the only Thursday nighter with teams coming off a previous Thursday contest, Saints at Cowboys the week after Thanksgiving, had the fewest points, 13-10 for the Cowboys. That also was a mesmerizing drama in which Dallas’ defense stamped itself as capable of carrying a contender, shutting down Drew Brees and the ultra-prolific Saints. It also might have featured Aikman and Buck’s best work.“I have become comfortable with where I am at within my job, so to speak,” Aikman says. “I always have been comfortable with my opinions and how I feel about the play on the field, and how it should be done and how teams should go about playing the game.“There have been a lot of league issues and things happening as it relates to our game. I am not trying to grandstand or get on a soap box; that’s not my nature. I think I have to be honest in how I feel, and I feel strongly enough in my beliefs to feel I am speaking for the majority of the people viewing.”There was a string of nine Thursday nighters, including New Orleans’ 31-17 victory over Atlanta on Thanksgiving night on NBC, in which it took at least 27 points to win. The Steelers went for 52 against Carolina, Denver scored 45 vs. Arizona, and Houston got 42 on Miami. So complaints about not enough rest between games mostly would come from defensive players — the same folks who have protested, often with validity, about how the rules are stacked against them. Two teams never made it to the Thursday night spotlight, Tampa Bay and Buffalo. Nobody missed them.Three others had Thursday outings, but on Thanksgiving afternoon, when Chicago visited Detroit and Washington was at Dallas. The Eagles, Cowboys, Saints and Falcons all had two Thursday appearances. Aikman and Buck had 14 such games, including Redskins-Cowboys in the late-afternoon Thanksgiving spot. They doubled up Thursday/Sunday assignments seven times. The longtime partnership Aikman and Buck share made the extra duties much easier to handle.“Joe is unbelievable, such a ridiculous talent,” Aikman says. “Joe is as gifted at his craft as anyone I played with. It’s a real marvel how smooth he is and what he sees.“It’s like being married, when you’ve been around someone for so long you know their habits and patterns, and I know where Joe wants to go right from the start, how he wants to set the tone.”Overall, ratings for the 13-game Thursday night package on Fox, with its simulcast on NFL Network, were up 2 percent over the 2017 season split between CBS and NBC. The average was 14,304,000 viewers, with Chargers-Chiefs in the last of the midweek games shattering the competition at 17.4 million on Fox/NFLN. That also was a 29-28 outcome in which LA scored a TD and 2-point conversion to win at the very end.NFL games on Thursday nights are a money maker, so much so that the World Series in October hasn’t had a scheduled game that night since 2013. Of course, Fox now has the rights to both, and has no plans to create such a conflict.Wait, how about the World Series leading into Thursday night football?

Matt Patricia’s style as a head coach was a topic of conversation before his first season on the job got underway when he was criticized by a local columnist for making players run at practice.Lions players didn’t share the belief that was a problem Womens DeShawn Shead Jersey , but Patricia’s approach to the job continued to be a talking point as the Lions went 6-10 during the 2018 season and was cited as a negative factor by an agent in a survey about best and worst free agent destinations by Robert Klemko of SI.com.Defensive end Trey Flowers didn’t share that opinion. Flowers said teams “can鈥檛 be comfortable” if they are going to succeed and cited his experience with Patricia with helping push him to the Lions in free agency.“He taught me a lot of things, developed me,” Flowers said, via MLive.com. “I developed through his system of doing things. So he’s just a great guy to work for. Obviously he demands a high standard of excellence from his players, and when you get someone who can challenge you like that, day in and day out, you’re going to just continue to get better. Those are the types of guys you want to play for Christian Jones Jersey , because you know they’re expecting high [things] of you.”The Lions brought in another former Patriot in Danny Amendola and we’ll see if that familiarity brings a different tune in Patricia’s second season in Detroit. For the second time in as many games, the Detroit Lions are winners on Monday. After heading down to South Beach and facing the heat, the Lions are back to .500 in the standings, and the team is trending in the right direction to compete in a wide-open NFC North—a division in which the Chicago Bears have rightfully reclaimed their spot in the cellar. On this Victory Monday, we’re asking the same thing we ask every Monday morning during the season:Do you feel better, worse, or the same after the Lions’ win over the Dolphins? My answer: Overall Womens Michael Roberts Jersey , I feel the same about the Lions after this win.Detroit did plenty of impressive things against Miami, and I don’t want to have to be the one to ask this question, but are we sure the Dolphins are any good? Here’s what I know I saw on Sunday that only reinforced what I think I already know about this team: The Lions defense was able to get some push and pressure on Brock Osweiler—they sacked him four times—but when they didn’t, Detroit’s secondary wasn’t quite up to the task. Osweiler made some pretty nice throws, but this secondary just isn’t the unit we thought it could be before this season. There’s still time, but I’m still waiting. And while the Lions were mostly able to stifle the Dolphins’ rushing attack, the defense gave up another big gain on the ground: a 54-yard touchdown run by Kenyan Drake. As for the positives Da'Shawn Hand Jersey , the Lions were able to prove to me—for the first time in like forever—that they can run the football. Not only is it a thing they can actually do, but it’s a thing they’re actually good at doing. For the first time in who knows when, the Detroit football Lions ran for more yards on the ground than what they passed for through the air. Kerryon Johnson is proving himself to be indispensable, rushing for 158 yards on just 19 carries. LeGarrete Blount had himself 10 carries for 50 yards, and it seems like Jim Bob Cooter might be figuring out the best way to handle this backfield.Matthew Stafford may have had his best game of the season, not statistically, but he was spot-on with his throws—the absolute perfect pass to TJ Jones down the sideline comes to mind—and he took care of the football en route to another turnover free afternoon. When the Lions don’t turn the ball over Sylvester Williams Jersey White , they’re going to be able to stay in just about any game they play, and Stafford’s 11 touchdown passes to just one interception since Week 2 is a testament to how that theory holds true.So why do I feel the same? Well, No. 9 being clinical is nothing new, and Kerryon Johnson’s incredible ability out of the backfield is something everyone was simply waiting for the team to capitalize on at some point. But this defense is still suspect, and until they prove they can limit big plays on the ground—either due to contain issues or just plain bad instincts at the snap of the ball—it’s hard for me to feel much better about this team. For now, this team is who we think they are, but if Matt Patricia and Co. can continue to get this defense more comfortable and familiar with this system Ricky Jean Francois Jersey , they might still have a corner left to turn, and that’s when I’ll start feeling better about this team and their chances.Your turn.

Get ready for youth and energy on the Packers’ staff in 2019."February 19th is a notable date on this year’s NFL calendar. Today is the day that NFL teams may begin to utilize the franchise and transition tags. This year’s free agent class has several candidates for those tags Jermaine Whitehead Jersey , and we’ll get to them later on today. However, that will thin out the top of the free agent class, particularly for pass-rushers.In Green Bay, the Packers are unlikely to use a franchise tag on anyone this year. In fact, there are no free agents-to-be on the team remotely deserving of receiving a tag. Instead, the team spent most of its energy on Monday introducing the 2019 coaching staff. Matt LaFleur and his coordinators held press conferences while their assistants spoke to the media in scrums in the afternoon. It’s a young staff Womens Kevin King Jersey , quite a bit younger than what we have seen from the Packers in recent years. That youth manifests itself in a few specific areas, some that may be more concerning than others. But one thing that youth brings is energy, and this team appears to have plenty of that as it prepares for 2019. In today’s curds, we look at some of the new faces on the staff and get a quick primer on the franchise tag process.Five things learned from the Packers’ new coaching staff | Packers.comFrom a coach who returns home to Wisconsin to an Illinois native with family ties to the Bears, this coaching staff appears full of excitement and energy. Perhaps nobody is more excited than running backs coach Ben Sirmans, however Jermaine Whitehead Jersey White , as he sees the Packers poised to run the ball more in 2019.Matt LaFleur's staff lacks experience in vital spots | Packersnews.comTom Silverstein is very concerned about the youth and inexperience of the Packers' offensive line and wide receivers coaches. As he notes, those were two areas where Mike Holmgren and Mike McCarthy hired veteran coaches rather than men like Adam Stenavich and Alvis Whitted, who have not held those positions in the NFL before.Mike Pettine, the invaluable resource for Packers coach Matt LaFleur | Packers WireMeanwhile, Pettine expects to be a great fit with LaFleur and intends to be a sounding board for his ideas as a head coach. Pettine also promised to tell LaFleur what not to do, using his own experience in Cleveland to inform that advice. The NFL’s franchise tag is a scam. It’s time to kill it - SBNation.comThe tag started in 1992 as a way for the Broncos to keep John Elway around while they negotiated a long-term deal. It was always intended to be a bridge to those types of contracts Womens David Bakhtiari Jersey , but nowadays it seems like a way of getting one more year out of a player before he hits the market.Franchise tag primer: Teams can start tagging players - NFL.comHere's a look at the options that teams have now that the tag period is open.Father spinning gun on finger accidentally shoots self at daughter's 16th birthday party | Click 2 HoustonThe man was reportedly spinning a gun on his finger when it went off. Sam Darnold nearly pulled off another one.Six days after leading the New York Jets to the first fourth-quarter comeback victory of his young career Alfred Blue Jersey White , the rookie quarterback almost did it again 鈥?falling just shy in a 29-22 loss to the Houston Texans on Saturday night."To go out there against a good Texans team, it would've been awesome to be able to get that win," Darnold said, "but we just came up short."Things looked promising after Darnold and the Jets (4-10) took their first lead of the game on Elijah McGuire's 2-yard touchdown run with just 5 minutes left. The No. 3 overall pick made plays with his arm and legs during the impressive 15-play, 73-yard go-ahead drive as he converted three third-down plays and a fourth-down opportunity."He played a gritty ballgame," coach Todd Bowles said. "He played tough and made some throws."On third-and-10 from the 19, Darnold took off for 14 yards 鈥?and a holding call on Aaron Colvin put the ball on the 2. After Darnold was stopped for no gain on a quarterback draw, he handed the ball to McGuire who pushed up the middle 鈥?surrounded by a surging mass of blockers who helped shove him all the way into the end zone for the score. It set off a wild celebration by the Jets. But Deshaun Watson and the Texans 鈥?whose nine-game winning streak was snapped by Indianapolis last Sunday 鈥?weren't going down for the second straight game. Watson threw a 14-yard touchdown pass to DeAndre Hopkins with 2:15 left, lifting Houston to the victory."We've just got to finish the game," Darnold said.A holding call on cornerback Morris Claiborne on third down prolonged the Texans' winning drive, and Watson completed passes of 20 and 3 yards to Demaryius Thomas and 7 yards to Hopkins to get to New York's 14."This is how I feed my family," Claiborne said of the penalty call. "When you make calls like that, you mess that up for me."Watson then found Hopkins streaking down the left sideline and launched a pass that the receiver somehow came down with despite being tightly covered by Claiborne."The holding call hurt us Natrell Jamerson Jersey White , obviously," Bowles said. "That got them down the field and the guy made a heck of a catch at the end. Mo had him covered great. He's a great receiver and he made a heck of a play."Darnold and the Jets had two more chances to pull off a stunner. On fourth-and-14 from the New York 21, Robby Anderson couldn't come down with Darnold's throw 鈥?and the Jets turned it over on downs."It was just a little bit of bad judgment by me," Anderson said. "I came a little bit too much under it and it hit right off my fingertips."Moments later, Ka'imi Fairbairn's 40-yard field goal 鈥?his fifth kick of the game 鈥?made it 29-22 with 54 seconds left.Darnold and the offense came out again with 75 yards between them and a tying touchdown. But after two incompletions and a sack, Darnold faced a fourth-and-18. He threw a short pass to McGuire, who gained 16 yards 鈥?2 short of a first down, sealing the game."It's frustrating to lose the ballgame," Bowles said. "We could've finished it a bunch of different ways. Whether it's offense or defense, we didn't finish it. The penalties cost us at the end."Darnold's overall performance, however, was a glaring bright spot for the Jets 鈥?who have had few things to feel good about this season. He was 24 of 38 for 253 yards and touchdown passes to Anderson and Andre Roberts , and also ran six times for 35 yards in arguably his best game of the season. That would mark two straight solid outings for Darnold http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-d_onta-foreman-jersey , who missed three games with a strained foot before returning against Buffalo last Sunday."He's just comfortable," Bowles said. "He's just playing his game. He's not trying to be perfect. He's just trying to play football. He's just enjoying playing football. That comes with game by game, having success."You sit out a while, you get to step back and you come back and you learn a little bit. It looks like he's learned quite a bit."Darnold's teammates are also noticing a more confident playmaking quarterback on the field."He played phenomenal," safety Jamal Adams said. "He's a bad man and the future is bright for him."After the game, Texans star defensive end J.J. Watt found Darnold on the field and gave the young quarterback a hug."You're going to be a great pro," Watt told him.The overall outlook for the Jets appears uncertain with Bowles likely to be looking for a new job when the season ends, and general manager Mike Maccagnan not a lock to return. But one thing New York might be able to count on is the fact it has a young quarterback who is progressing each week."Yeah, I mean, I feel comfortable getting experience and I feel like I'm seeing the field a lot better," Darnold said. "I feel like our whole offense is really starting to click a lot better, getting in and out. But, it comes down to wins and losses. We want to get out there and win the game. That's the whole point of playing Womens Dylan Cole Jersey , you want to win." Let’s see which position group you place more value on."When you read what’s once again becoming an endless sea of free agent and mock draft prediction pieces from all corners of the sportsphere, it’s pretty obvious most fall into one of two camps. Either people feel Houston’s cornerback group is far more important than the offensive line, or they feel the opposite. With that in mind, it’s time to see what you, the diehard core of Houston Texans fandom, thinks. Are you all in for an offensive tackle, or do you prefer to see opposing wide receivers tackled by a blue chip, shutdown cornerback? Here’s a sales pitch for each school of thought: HOUSTON TEXANS UPGRADE THE OFFENSIVE LINEWith the NFL slanting further and further towards the offense in an effort to make the game more exciting, the need to protect Houston’s first ever franchise quarterback is greater than it’s ever been in anytime in Texans history. Additionally, with Bill O’Brien and new offensive coordinator Tim Kelly’s (or “Bill O’Brien, Jr.” as some in these parts refer to him) unrelenting commitment to the run game, having large, mobile bodies that can move the defensive front seven out of the way for Lamar Miller and company to gobble up yards is a need for sure. If Ju’Wuan James can keep [NAME REDACTED] from taking a sack Ryan Griffin Jersey White , imagine what he could do for Deshaun Watson. HOUSTON TEXANS BOLSTER THE CORNERBACK GROUPWith stalwarts like Andrew Luck going against Houston’s secondary twice a year (or three times, in some cases), having shutdown corners who won’t allow T.Y. Hilton to run to the Hall of Fame from purely inside the confines of a division rivalry is seemingly a must. Providing the few extra (split) seconds of coverage allows the Houston front seven to get to the opposing quarterback and notch those precious coverage sacks. With the new, unspoken NFL rule that you can tackle J.J. Watt on any given play if you happen to be an opposing offensive lineman, Watt, Jadeveon Clowney, Whitney Mercilus and the rest of Houston’s pass rushers need every competitive edge they can get to overcome the NFL’s bias against defense. The argument can easily be made to support either way of thinking, but when the tampering period begins and the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft comes Houston’s way, they’ll need to focus on one or the other. Thankfully, Houston has the cap space and draft capital to address both areas, but they can’t both be the #1 priority. If you were able to focus on one need for Houston, which would it be?

The Bengals are coming off a brutal loss to the Steelers Womens John Ross Jersey , but they are still 4-2 on the season and remain in first place in the AFC North. There are plenty of teams that would kill to be in the same position as the Bengals, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t things they can’t do better though, especially if they want to make a postseason run. Here are some things the Bengals should focus on improving if they want to keep hope alive this season.More consistency from the right side of the offensive lineIt isn’t totally fair to sit here and say right guard Alex Redmond and right tackle Bobby Hart don’t have any right being on a football field. Both players have shown an ability to play the position well. They were both responsible for some big runs by Joe Mixon on Sunday. However, they both have a habit of giving up a big play to the defense. This happens more often when they are pass protecting. Redmond’s inconsistencies in pass protection have cots the Bengals several drives, and last week against the Steelers defense was no different. Hart has had trouble with allowing free rushers, but has been slightly more consistent than Redmond. The only reason Andy Dalton has been better about avoiding sacks this year is because offensive coordinator Bill Lazor is allowing him to make quicker decisions, and Dalton can actually step up in the pocket because their former center Russell Bodine isn’t getting pushed back every play. The fact the the Bengals haven’t tried guys like Jake Fisher or Christian Westerman out at tackle and guard respectively means they probably won’t at this point. It should be something the team considers though if these inconsistencies continue.Playing to winThe Bengals took a step in the right direction when they went down the field after an Alex Erickson kick return and tied the game at 14 before the half last week, but if Erickson doesn’t have that return, is Cincinnati content to just go into the half down seven while getting the ball after halftime? It’s hard to tell, but a better example of the Bengals playing to not lose rather than to win came in the second half. After another great return by Alex Erickson to start the second half, Cincinnati was faced with a fourth-and-one on Pittsburgh’s 40 yard line. They decided to punt the ball. Marvin Lewis defended the decision by saying “I’m not going to give them the ball there.”It seems he trusted his defense and special teams unit too much as the punt netted 28 yards and the Steelers went down the field anyway and kicked a field goal to take the lead anyway. There are people who will defend this line of thinking with something as cliche as “if you can’t convert in three downs then what makes you think you can get it on fourth down?” Well this is why.We are playing with a little bit of hindsight knowing that they gave up a field goal anyways, but those numbers are certainly favorable for the offense. Also, you should consider it more when you are facing your division rival that has seemed to find every which way to beat you over the past few seasons. Maybe a play like that could’ve swung things in your favor — We will never know now.Having linebackers play more aggressively in pass coverageThe Bengals have lost Nick Vigil for around a month now, and even before he went down, the linebackers have been a major issue in pass coverage. It is hard to imagine any wholesale changes to the way they play at this point in the season, but it is disappointing to see them drop back in coverage and look like they are just waiting for someone in front of them to catch the ball so they can tackle them.Of course the Bengals don’t really have the talent at linebacker for these guys to do much else in coverage. They don’t have a linebacker with a quick twitch or be able to break on the ball to stop moderate gains over the middle. Honestly, outside of getting pressure on the quarterback, I’m not sure how they’d even fix this issue at this point of the season. It seems like Teryl Austin is more willing to blitz his linebackers that Paul Guenther was as a defensive coordinator, but that only masks so much of the issue.Get pressure on the quarterback and turnoversThe Bengals have showed when they get pressure on the quarterback that good things happen. They are 4-0 when they have at least two sacks. In their two losses on the season they have one combined sack. Turnovers have also been a huge reason for the Bengals win. The main reason why they beat Miami was because of the two turnovers that the defense turned into touchdowns. They also had turnovers that sealed their wins against the Colts and Ravens. Austin being more aggressive as a defensive coordinator has really paid off most of the season. An issue that has come up though is Carl Lawson’s playing time. Despite him being the team’s third best pass rusher, he has had a hard time seeing the field as consistently as Geno Atkins and Carlos Dunlap. Most of that probably has to do with the team worrying about opposing squads running at him Clark Harris Jersey White , but at some point you just have to play your best players. Michael Johnson getting almost double the playing time as Lawson doesn’t look good when your team isn’t getting any pressure. What do you think the Bengals need to work on the rest of the season? This is one of those postings that may only interest me — AKA, I’m thinking about something and I answer it via a Chop Block post. There’s very little insight, story structure, or analysis here; just answering random musings from the couch during a stormy Cincinnati afternoon. There might not even be a conclusion; I’ll just stop when I’m finished. It finally happened. The Cincinnati Bengals announced Monday that they’ve mutually parted ways with head coach Marvin Lewis, leaving a vacancy in Cincinnati that hasn’t existed in 5,830 days. Over the course of nearly 16 years — from his hiring on January 14, 2003 and his departure on December 31, 2018 — the franchise has made significant progress under Lewis, who made it work with limited resources and a fiscally oppressive owner. “I want to thank the Bengals’ organization, the fans and the city of Cincinnati for their support,” Lewis said via a team-released statement. “I regret I haven’t been able to provide them with the No. 1 goal of being world champions. I also want to thank our players, coaches and team employees for their effort and professionalism over the past 16 years. A lot of fine people have gone through this building in that time, and the organization is better for all of them having been a part of it.”Over 16 seasons, Lewis won more games (131) than any coach in franchise history, earned NFL Coach of the Year (2009), four division titles (2005, 2009, 2013, 2015), and seven postseason berths (2005 C.J. Uzomah Jersey White , 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015). In addition, he changed a culture of losing into something far more competitive, upgraded amenities (like a weight room, better food), and helped enhance the player personnel department. Yes. There are blemishes... and we know what they are. Then there’s the work he did within the community. “Since its inception, the Marvin Lewis Community Fund has raised more than $13 million with an average of 92 cents on each dollar going back to the community,” writes Jennie Key with the Cincinnati Enquirer. “More than 10,000 volunteers have worked for the fund.”In addition: “The team is very appreciative of all that Marvin has accomplished over the past 16 years,” said Bengals President Mike Brown. “Personally, I am very fond of Marvin and will miss working with him. He is a friend and a colleague, and I thank him for what he has meant to this franchise. But it is time to turn the page and look toward the next chapter for our organization, and we are excited about what the future holds for the team and our fans.”What Lewis has done for Cincinnati shouldn’t be disregarded or ignored; he’s done more for our community than most of us. He’s done more for the Cincinnati Bengals franchise than any executive, coach, or player throughout his regime. Lewis will go down as one of the greats in franchise history. However, this is a business and business is not good in Cincinnati — a city pouring money into FC Cincinnati Womens Boomer Esiason Jersey , college sports, and maybe the Reds, who made a splash this offseason. There’s only so much recreational sports money and the Bengals need a share of that hypothetical pie with a perfect hire. The Bengals began a search for their 10th NFL head coach on Monday.According to reports, they are requesting interviews and expressing interest with offensive-minded coaches like Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels (another failed head coach), Rams passing game coordinator Shane Waldron, Rams quarterbacks coach Zac Taylor (interview could happen as soon as Friday), who is also receiving affection with the Arizona Cardinals. Former Bengals defensive backs coach Vance Joseph (another failed head coach) could receive consideration, either at defensive coordinator or head coach. Internal candidates like offensive coordinator Bill Lazor and special teams coach Darren Simmons will speak with the front office, with one insider writing that Simmons “has a real good shot at the job.” Based on these names, it’s clear Cincinnati wants a coach with an offensive background — which seems like an outdated model when forming prerequisites for a candidate. Then there’s Hue Jackson. Words like “endorsed” and “lobbying” are being thrown around in articles recapping Marvin Lewis’ opinion on his successor. When asked on Monday if he’d like to see Jackson “in the mix” as Cincinnati’s next head coach, Lewis said: “I think Hue should get an opportunity to speak with them. I think he’s more than qualified and has been in a couple of difficult situations. That’s tough, and it hasn’t broken his way. I think he’s an excellent football coach, he’s a great motivator, he’s detailed. So I think he deserves an opportunity — if not here, somewhere else.”Many of us have an opinion that Jackson would be a disaster. He failed in Oakland and Cleveland, leaving much dysfunction and losing seasons in his wake. On the other hand, keeping him as the team’s offensive coordinator actually makes sense — Dalton’s best season (2015) came during the second year with Jackson as the play-caller.Regardless... head coach? Nope.So we watch. We wait. The process will play out. The question is: Will ownership find another Marvin Lewis, a coach that embraces the community and helps push the franchise to a new level? Or another Dave Shula/Bruce Coslet/Dick LeBeau?

According to the New York Daily News Teez Tabor Jersey White , Detroit Lions linebacker Trevor Bates was arrested early Saturday morning after refusing to pay cab fare. From there, things only got much, much worse.Per the police report, Bates refused to be fingerprinted and responded by punching a police officer in the face. According to the New York Post, the officer suffered a concussion and received three stitches. As for Bates, he was sent to Elmhurst Hospital Center for a psychiatric evaluation. Bates played in nine games for the Detroit Lions, logging most of his snaps as a special teamer. He joined the Lions after winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots in 2016 and spending most of the 2017 season on the Giants’ practice squad.Bates is signed through the 2019 season, but after an altercation like this Jake Rudock Jersey , you have to think his roster spot is very much in jeopardy. The Detroit Lions have not released a statement on the situation. UPDATE: The Lions have now released a statement confirming the arrest, via general manager Bob Quinn:UPDATE 2: Here’s more information on the altercation. Apparently the officers used a taser to subdue Bates: DETROIT (AP) — The play went for an 82-yard gain, not a great moment for the Detroit defense. The way it ended epitomized the Lions‘ gritty victory.Darius Slay hustled back and tackled DJ Moore on a long reception in the third quarter, preventing a Carolina touchdown. The Panthers eventually missed a field goal on that drive, and the Lions went on to win 20-19 on Sunday.“That’s a huge play, that’s a great effort play,” Detroit coach Matt Patricia said. “Great hustle, great pursuit Matt Prater Jersey White , that’s a really fast guy that he’s chasing. Fortunately, we’ve got a faster guy for that moment.”After three straight losses, Detroit’s playoff hopes seemed remote entering this game, but the Lions clearly haven’t given up. Even after an injury to rookie running back Kerryon Johnson, Detroit was able to take the lead in the fourth quarter and then hold on. Kenny Golladay’s acrobatic 19-yard touchdown catch put the Lions up 20-13 with 5:13 remaining, and after Carolina scored a TD of its own with 1:07 left, Cam Newton threw incomplete on a 2-point conversation attempt. This was the first of three straight home games for the Lions. Detroit (4-6) will try to take another step back toward contention when it hosts Chicago on Thanksgiving.Johnson departed with an apparent left knee injury after rushing for 87 yards and a touchdown. That injury took away one of Detroit’s most promising young players, but the Lions still had another one on the field in Golladay. The 6-foot-4 receiver had eight catches for 113 yards Trey Flowers Jersey White , and some of his receptions were on passes that seemed up for grabs.Golladay caught a 36-yard pass from Matthew Stafford on third-and-15 in the fourth quarter. Moments later, he leaped backward and came down with his touchdown catch, putting the Lions ahead.“He comes to work, he runs his tail off, and he tries to make plays as much as he possibly can,” Stafford said. “He doesn’t say much, and those guys with that quiet confidence, I feel good about.”Slay is a little more chatty http://www.lionslockerroom.com/authentic-levine-toilolo-jersey , and he backs up his confidence with his play. With the Lions up 10-7 in the third quarter, Moore caught a short pass near the left sideline, then broke back to the middle and raced toward the end zone . Slay finally ran him down at the Detroit 12.“I thought for sure that was going to be a touchdown, because I didn’t think anyone could run him down from behind,” Carolina receiver Jarius Wright said. “The Lions have some speed back there, though.”Then the defense held, and Graham Gano missed a field goal.“We don’t want to quit, we want to keep going Womens Ricky Wagner Jersey , we want to tackle him and just give us a chance to try to get out of a bad situation,” Patricia said. “It’s unfortunate that that play happened, but certainly again proud of our guys with the mental toughness to settle down and then just play the next couple plays.”

Get your predictions Braxton Miller Jersey , hot takes, and and wild speculation here!"With less than a week to go until the official tampering period begins (you know, where teams are allowed to break the rules; they couldn’t come up with a better way to do this?) the rampant speculation, “expert” opinions, mock drafts and crazy prognostication is in full swing and on the way to fever pitch. While this is often a fun time of year for fans, mainly due to the ripe possibilities and unadulterated dreams of what could be, all the rampant flights of fancy are really just a way to pass the time through the doldrums of the NFL offseason. Looking at the “How to Build” poll from last week, the majority of us firmly believe in a level-headed approach. And by “us,” I mean those who follow the Texans regularly Whitney Mercilus Jersey , not necessarily the “us” of those who write about the Texans regularly. In the latter camp, we’ve seen everything from the (apparently) completely uninformed (Bucky Brooks mocking a tight end to Houston with the 23rd overall pick), to the seemingly misguided (these cats have Houston taking a wide out with the 23rd pick), to Albert Breer and John McClain’s apparent disagreement about the future of Jadeveon Clowney (Breer says Houston is open to trade talks while McClain insists it ain’t happening - the reality of which is probably that any team dumb enough to offer a ‘Herschel Walker to the Vikings’ level trade can have Clowney ASAP.)Meanwhile, Houston is allegedly shopping Kevin Johnson, but might have a rough time getting anyone to part with much of anything and then absorb Johnson’s inflated cap hit. Maybe the nice ladies in the Texans store at NRG Stadium can sew “Osweiler” on the back of Kevin Johnson’s jersey and send him to Cleveland. With all that being said, here are my “bold/not so bold” hot takes and predictions as the Texans get ready to plunge into the offseason:1.Jadeveon Clowney isn’t going anywhere. At least not in the immediate future. He’ll play 2019 under the Franchise Tag, with each side hoping to get the better end of a long-term deal next off-season. No other team is going to shell out top three edge rusher money for a guy who still has question marks, particularly in a year when the draft is overflowing with edge rush talent. 2. Kevin Johnson is going somewhere. But it’ll happen by way of Houston cutting him. The former first rounder has never done enough to dodge the potentially unfair “bust” label and no apologist in their right mind pays Pro Bowl cash for a guy who would only be CB1 on a team if he signs in the Alliance of American Football.3. Brian Gaine avoids former Steelers. At least Steelers named Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell. After Brown’s AIM-FIRE-READY shot to the foot last week http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-martinas-rankin-jersey , you can guarantee Houston’s brass want no part of bringing him to town. Le’Veon Bell has been smart enough to keep his comments less inflammatory and “me first,” but the price tag he’ll likely command next week will make Gaine and Bill O’Brien shy away from him. 4. Houston will go after more than one “big name” big man when free agency opens.Expect the Texans to go after Trent Brown and Ju’Wuan James if the opportunity arises -then go after a lesser known guard or three. While Brown has his detractors, the fact he protected Tom Brady will be more than enough for Bill O’Brien to want him in battle red. James will make a great starting right tackle.Signing them both frees up Houston for Prediction #5.5. The Houston Texans select two cornerbacks and an offensive lineman early in the 2019 NFL Draft. With the first three picks in the draft, the Texans will take two corners and an offensive lineman, strictly depending on who is available on their big board when their picks come around. Clemson’s Trayvon Mullen and Vanderbilt’s Joejuan Williams both met with Houston at the NFL Combine, and while a lot of these meetings are designated misdirection, there’s no doubt Houston loves to drink from the Dabo Swinney well. Other possibilities for the Texans in April:tackle Andre Dillard, tackle Cody Ford, guard Tytus Howard Keke Coutee Jersey , and/or tackle Greg Little - depending on who is available when Houston picks. Bonus Houston Texans free agency prediction: The Texans try to play the long game with corner/safety Kareem Jackson and lose him to another team within the division. It’s hard to be a Texans fan and not expect at least one “makes me want to scream” move in the offseason. This year, it will involve K-Jax. Just like A.J. Bouye, Jackson played well in a contract year to earn a bigger paycheck; Houston will let him test the waters and regret it. There you have it, the Red Zone Play wild speculation for the week leading up to NFL free agency. What do you think? Have five predictions of your own you want to share? Lay down your hot takes in the comments section.Houston Texans Injury Update: Latest On Will Fuller, Kevin Johnson, Kayvon Webster Bill O’Brien met with the media earlier today, and in addition to disclosing that Seantrel Henderson will miss the rest of the season, he updated those assembled on the status of Will Fuller (who was inactive for yesterday’s game due to a hamstring injury), Kevin Johnson (who suffered yet another concussion in the loss) Kendall Lamm Jersey White , and the recently signed Kayvon Webster.Although the Texans will be far from full strength in just the second game of the season, they won’t be the only team already ravaged by injuries playing in Nashville next week.In their loss to the Dolphins yesterday, the Titans saw Delanie Walker suffer a season-ending injury of his own, along with Taylor Lewan and Marcus Mariota going down with ailments that could affect their availability on Sunday.

The Bengals have been secretive with their quarterback scouting."There’s been a lot of buzz about the Bengals drafting a quarterback next week Jake Fisher Jersey , but that has not been matched with any quarterbacks taking top 30 visits to Cincinnati that have been reported. Until today. The Bengals hosted Central Connecticut State quarterback prospect Jake Dolegala today on the last day for top-30 meetings, per Ian Rapoport.Rapoport is also reporting that the only other quarterback the Bengals have hosted over the past few weeks has been North Carolina State prospect Ryan Finley.Against FCS competition, the 6-6 235 pound Dolegala threw for 48 touchdowns and 8,129 passing yards in his four-year career at CCSU. Very rarely do FCS quarterbacks end up getting drafted, so Dolegala is a name to remember when the Bengals are signing priority free agents after the draft has concluded.Finley Tyler Kroft Jersey , the more well-known passer, also stands tall at 6-4 and will enter the NFL at 24 years old and will turn 25 during his rookie season. Finley originally started his college career at Boise State before transferring to NC State before his junior season and started three seasons for the Wolfpack. He ended up with 60 touchdowns and 10,501 passing yards.Though not regularly included with the big four names at quarterback, Finley has been reported to be higher on teams’ boards than were draft media has him placed. His multi-layered accuracy and traditional dimensions are qualities that the NFL consistently values at the quarterback position, despite his age and lack of high-end velocity and elongated throwing motion.Realistically John Miller Jersey , Finley projects to go off the board sometime on Day 2 and develop into a high-end backup with the potential to become a spot starter. A high quality career is likely out of the cards for Finley considering how old he already is, but it wouldn’t be surprising to see him carve out a long career. Many people were skeptical when the Bengals signed Bobby Hart off the scrap heap, and he ended up starting all 16 games for them last year. Many more people were skeptical when the Bengals signed Hart to a three-year, $21 million contract in free agency. But Bengals vice president Tory Blackburn defended the move, or at least the move in context of the market.“For those who say you shouldn鈥檛 have signed Bobby Hart Alex Redmond Jersey , who is going to play right tackle?” Blackburn said. “Who? Oh, maybe you鈥檒l draft one in the third round and he鈥檒l come on. Really? You鈥檙e going to bet your season on that? We may still draft somebody. We haven鈥檛 had the draft yet. But you just can鈥檛 criticize. In our business you have to solve the problem. If you鈥檙e not going to play him, tell me who? Trent Brown at 17 million? Really? A seventh-round draft pick? Let go essentially by his team. Really? We can鈥檛 go to WalMart and buy off the shelf. A high quality starting right tackle? That doesn鈥檛 exist [in free agency].“You have to deal in the universe of options you have. We ended up signing eight guys. That鈥檚 probably above average. Were they perfect? You鈥檙e not going to get perfect. . . . There aren鈥檛 perfect options out there. We asked Willie Anderson if he could go to a time machine and come back at age 25. We鈥檇 love to sign him, but you have to deal in your universe of options. I think the data would say we signed more guys than most in line with the cap that we talked about. If there are surprises out there we鈥檒l try to be flexible and aggressive, but normally there are no surprises out there.”There’s a lot to unpack there Bobby Hart Jersey , beginning with how absurdly defensive Blackburn sounds (Terrell later noted that’s just how he talks). He’s not the only one to raise an eyebrow at the Raiders signing Brown to a four-year $66 million contract. The year before, the 49ers basically gave him away for 48 spots in draft order (they got New England’s third rounder, which they used on safety Tarvarius Moore, and sent their fifth-rounder back to the Patriots. Also, the Patriots will probably get a third-round comp pick next year for letting him walk). But the Raiders had to have him Alex Redmond Jersey , as the move was the first one announced, minutes into the legal tampering period. There’s a difference between not doing a big bad deal, and spending less but still overpaying for a known commodity. Being a reliable Bengals offensive lineman isn’t the same as being good, and they seemed to pay a premium for a guy they had familiarity with. And the fact Blackburn had to go to such great lengths to defend the deal probably isn’t a good sign.

Kyle Van Noy was traded from the Lions to the Patriots during the 2016 season. New England went to the Super Bowl that season Youth Isaac Nauta Jersey , and after the 2017 season, and after the 2018 season. Van Noy is enjoying himself.Van Noy said on that by getting traded from Detroit to New England, he felt like he was moving from the pits of the league to the penthouse.“I’m gonna repeat what my friend said so I don’t get in trouble. He’s like ‘You went from the toilet bowl, to the Super Bowl,'” Van Noy said, via MassLive.com.Asked if by “my friend” he actually meant himself, Van Noy joked Austin Bryant Detroit Lions Jersey , “That was KVN. This is Kyle Van Noy. I’ve got like double personas.”Van Noy said he could tell quickly that the coaches in New England knew how to get the most out of him, which the coaches in Detroit didn’t.“Then when I got there, it was like, they had a plan for me,” he said. “Then that plan got bigger with how I played. With that being said, I didn’t know that to begin with because I’d been in Detroit, where I was kind of told ‘We don’t know where to put you.’ And I’m like White Isaac Nauta Jersey , ‘Why did you draft me?’ I had my own coach telling me ‘I don’t know where to put you.’”The Patriots have known where to put Van Noy, and where he’s ended up is the Super Bowl, in all three of his seasons there. Darius Slay is an extremely talented NFL cornerback and a premier entertainer, in that order. Currently in Orlando for his second consecutive Pro Bowl, Slay was displaying his latter talent during a set of practices on Wednesday. And just like last year, the Detroit Lions were there to film it all—with a body camera and a microphone to catch all of Slay’s conversations with his fellow Pro Bowlers. He did not disappoint.Slay seemed to have a lot of fun trash-talking some fellow NFC North players, starting first with Packers receiver Davante Adams.“You don’t block like that in the real game Luke Willson Jersey ,” Slay barked at Adams with a laugh after a rep. Then it was onto Vikings receiver Adam Thielen, who was also down in Orlando for the second consecutive year. Only Thielen wasn’t the topic of discussion; his quarterback was.[Editor’s note: He was speaking with Vikings safety Harrison Smith, not Thielen. Sorry about that mixup.]“I don’t know what Kirk (Cousins) was thinking we he threw that pick to me,” Slay told Smith. “I read that whole thing so smooth. I said, ‘Give me that. Kirk, what you trippin’ for? You see me right here.’ He’s looking dead at me and threw it. I said, ‘Oh my gosh Sylvester Williams Jersey , thank you.’” Then Slay turned his attention to Cardinals rookie quarterback Josh Rosen. Slay picked off Rosen for his first career pick six and defended two additional passes in a game in which the Lions won 17-3.“Y’all quarterback was trippin’,” Slay told Cardinals cornerback Patrick Peterson. “He gave me all them opportunities to make a play. I said, “No, he’s not finna to keep doing that.’”But Slay wasn’t just about trash talking this week. He and Peterson seemed to get along nicely. The two talked about their age, their families and their already long careers in the NFL. He also gave props to the Cowboys offensive line and Ezekiel Elliott. Anything Slay says or does is must-see TV, so watch the entire thing here.

Matt LaFleur is making some significant changes to the way the Packers do business before and between games."WhiteFanposts Fanshots Sections The APC PodcastPackers Film RoomFantasy Football AdviceCDTShareTweetShareShareCheese Curds Jamaal Williams Jersey White , 3/27: Packers adjust practice schedule, will work with another team in campTrevor Ruszkowski-USA TODAY SportsIt has been 14 years since the Green Bay Packers welcomed another NFL team to their practice field. However, Matt LaFleur is bringing a host of changes to the team as its new head coach, and that appears to be one of them.LaFleur made a handful of headlines on Tuesday at the NFL’s annual meeting, but some of the most notable involve the team’s plans for practices, both in training camp and in the regular season.Mike McCarthy changed up the team’s weekly schedule about five years ago, giving players off two days before games (usually on Fridays) with a quick but intense practice on the day before the game. However, most teams work on Friday and spend Saturdays preparing mentally, and LaFleur is apparently taking the team back to that plan for this season.LaFleur also has a plan in the works to practice against another NFL team in training camp this year, which could make for some interesting days. Hopefully negotiations with the other franchise will work out so that some or all of those practices are open to the public. We will not know for sure how open training camp will be this year, but you can bet that with the team’s connection to the fans and the community, an expectation is set for LaFleur that he’ll need to keep fan availability open for most practices this summer.Meanwhile, the Packers are also planning to head to Canada for a preseason game against the Raiders, something Mark Murphy discussed on Tuesday. This sure isn’t Mike McCarthy’s team any more.Packers plan to practice against another team in training camp | Packers.comGreen Bay hasn't done this since before Mike McCarthy's tenure. The last time was in Mike Sherman's final season in 2005, when the team hosted the Buffalo Bills before Family Night.Packers' practice week will become more traditional under Matt LaFleur | Packersnews.comMeanwhile, the Packers will go back to practicing on Fridays instead of Saturdays in normal game weeks this season. McCarthy shifted the last practice of the week back a day for the past few years, but LaFleur is going back to the typical schedule for several reasons.Matt LaFleur finds ‘all-time’ throw in 2010 tape of Aaron Rodgers | Packers WireIt isn't a play that is likely to stick in the minds of Packers fans, since it came in a relatively ugly 9-0 victory against the Jets. However, Rodgers' willingness to hang in the pocket, take a hit, and deliver a clean, on-target football on this play really stuck with his new coach.2019 NFL coaches picture power ranking: How handsome is Doug Marrone? - Big Cat CountryBCC did a ranking of NFL coaches by handsomeness, and our own Matt LaFleur takes the top spot.Zimmer on CB Rhodes: 'He needs to play better' | ESPNPackers fans won't feel too bad hearing about Xavier Rhodes' struggles.NFL Draft 2019: 6 pass rushers tell us their top moves for wrecking QBs - SBNation.comI think Ed Oliver is now my favorite potential pick for the Packers at 12 overall, with Brian Burns in the mix as well. Both players broke down their favorite pass-rush moves at the Combine.Hullabaloo ensues when house guests refuse to remove shoes - Peoria, IL"House guests" is an interesting way to refer to these two men, who were dropping by the house for...well, you can probably figure it out. But really, is taking off shoes too much to ask before doing that? Now that the Super Bowl has concluded and all 32 NFL teams are in offseason mode Womens Mike Daniels Jersey , it’s time to start fantasizing about all of the players that you want your team to select that they won’t and will break your heart. To preface this, we obviously don’t know how this offseason will go for the Green Bay Packers. They have a new coaching staff, and this is probably the closest thing to a “transition” offseason the Packers have had in a decade? So be open minded here, and let’s take a trip into the dream machine and let’s see how the 2019 NFL Draft plays out in this scenario. For more context: this isn’t a full offseason simulation. There is clearly room for change in the scenario with the different free agent signings and whatnot. However, we’re going to pretend that everything I say goes in this scenario, happens. Without further ado, here we go:Round 1 Pick 12: Brian Burns, EDGE, Florida State 6’5” 240In this scenario, Clelin Ferrell, Josh Allen, Jachai Polite and Montez Sweat were all gone, so selecting Burns was an easy decision. Burns, who was three years old when the Packers drafted Jamal Reynolds (don’t even think about it), is a long, twitchy pass rusher who was the lone bright spot to a very dull and sad Florida State football season.Burns will likely not be a base defense guy, as his value initially and in the long run is based in his ability to get after the quarterback. Burns’ weight will be an interesting watch in Indy, as Burns likely played the majority of his career in the 220s or lighter. He may never be anything more than an adequate run defender, but frankly that’s not what you’re paying him to do. He’s likely a long and late downs rusher early on — Fackrell (my God what did I just type) and possibly a free agent (Preston Smith would be very nice) could be the starters, if the Packers move on (they should) from Clay Matthews and Nick Perry. Round 1 Pick 30: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa 6’5” 250 (from New Orleans)This has become an extremely trendy pick for the Packers, and to be honest I wouldn’t be shocked if Hockenson was gone before this in April. However, here he’s not, so Roll Tide. Hockenson, honestly, is just an all-around player. He’s got the size and athleticism you covet at tight end. He’s got reliable hands. He’s a devastating blocker. To be frank, he’s just an ass kicker Womens Jake Ryan Jersey , something the Packers’ offense hasn’t had in quite a while. In LaFleur’s offense, an athletic, versatile tight end who resembles George Kittle (I’d still use this comp even if they both didn’t go to Iowa). This is a slam dunk, Day 1 pick in this case. It’s a luxury pick from the Marcus Davenport trade from 2018, and the roster continues to get more talented a position that desperately needs it. Round 2 Pick 44: Nasir Adderley, DB, Delaware 6’0” 195Yes, he’s related to Packers great Herb Adderley. Now that we’re past that, let’s talk about Adderley as a player. He was used in a significant capacity by the Blue Hens, but his career ended on a crescendo, with Adderley playing his best ball. He’s not a man-cover guy, and we saw that down in Mobile. But Adderley’s ability to play center field, drop down by the line of scrimmage and be a ball player, and be a robber/rat/hole player in underneath coverage gives Adderley a plethora of possibilities despite him not being an elite athlete. He possesses great range despite lacking game breaking speed and he’s the chess piece I think a lot of people thought Josh Jackson could be. Round 3 Pick 76: Isaac Nauta, TE, Georgia 6’4” 240The Packers double dipping at tight end? With two of their first four picks?! Look. You don’t only build your roster for the upcoming season. This is one of the deepest tight end classes in quite some time, and now is the time to strike. I looked to select an offensive lineman here, but honestly the value wasn’t there. Maybe they signed a guard in free agency wink. Nauta is another well-rounded tight end. He’s not the blocker that Hockenson is, but he’s rock solid in about everything that he does. He’s another “move” tight end for LaFleur to utilize, and although the new Packers’ HC is rumored to be molding the offense more along the lines of Kyle Shanahan (more 21 personnel), when Jimmy Graham and his contract are off the books after next season, having Hockenson and Nauta as your tight ends is awfully appealing. Round 4 Pick 112: Daylon Mack, DL, Texas A&M 6’1” 327Possibly the biggest riser throughout the all-star game circuit, Mack would be a nice value at this spot early in the 4th round. The Packers would always be wise to continue to invest in their defensive front to give Mike Pettine more pieces to play with in front of the bountiful combinations of personnel the defensive coordinator likes to use behind the front three/four. Mack is built like a fire hydrant. He’s a former 5-star recruit who never really figured it out until his senior season in College Station. Mack still has some weight to shed, I think his sweet spot is between 320-325. He’s not a flashy pass rusher, but he’s shorter than the offensive lineman he’ll face, he’s stronger than they are Kenny Clark Jersey , and he’ll walk the lineman backwards into the pocket. He’s not a two-gapper, but he’s a pluggy lineman who you put anywhere from 1-3 tech and let him disrupt and get upfield. One of the best first steps in the class.Round 4 Pick 116: Dakota Allen, LB, Texas Tech 6’1” 235 (from Washington)This pick comes from the Ha Ha Clinton-Dix trade. Dakota Allen, yes, the same one from Last Chance U season two, makes a lot of sense for Green Bay and the direction Pettine seemingly wants to go with the defense.Allen is a run and hit, coverage linebacker. Green Bay selected a similar player in Vanderbilt’s Oren Burks last season, but Allen is less of a projection, as he’s actually played the position for more than a season. Allen will never be a premier player, but he’ll find his niche as a coverage linebacker in their Nickel and Dime packages, along with special teams.Allen rounds out the linebacker room nicely with Blake Martinez, Oren Burks and Antonio Morrison, really giving the Packers a bit of everything from a playing style perspective. Round 5 Pick 140: Terry McLaurin, WR, Ohio State 6’0” 205Terry McLaurin is one of the most dynamic athletes in this entire draft class. McLaurin should run somewhere between 4.40-4.45 and had a 42” vertical jump in high school. McLaurin was a victim of the Ohio State offense for most of his career, battling both J.T. Barrett as his college quarterback as well as playing with multiple NFL level receivers throughout his career in Columbus. He finally put it together during his senior season, featured in a much more pass-heavy offensive attack. He was nearly uncoverable in Mobile, and is another impressive special teams player, which after watching the Packers struggle in those facets for the past few seasons, the more players you can acquire who excel in those areas is a bonus. Round 6 Pick 172: Byron Cowart, EDGE/DL, Maryland 6’3” 297Cowart is a former #1 high school recruit in the country initially committed to Auburn. However, by Cowart’s own admission, he didn’t know how to really play football once he got to Auburn, as he had gotten by almost solely by his athleticism and size. After eventually transferring to a junior college and ending up in Maryland, Cowart is intriguing. While obviously he’s still putting his football skill set together, Cowart provides a lot of reasons to like. He’s a plus athlete for his size Reggie White Jersey White , and he gives the Packers some versatility in their personnel packages, as Cowart could play some base five tech end, and kick inside in sub packages as a rusher. Round 6 Pick 182: Chuma Edoga, OL, USC 6’4” 303 (from Seattle)This pick was acquired in the trade with Seattle after initially trading back with New Orleans. Edoga is a player who really impressed me at the Senior Bowl, after I was pretty underwhelmed with his tape for the Trojans. I think Edoga would kick inside to guard and his athleticism would allow him to thrive in Green Bay’s new stretch zone run scheme. He played in the high 280s at USC, but looked to naturally carry 303 in Mobile. He’s a high cut, high-hipped lineman with long legs, and is an effortless mover. He could also be used as a swing tackle in a pinch, but he’s a guy who could work his way into a starting lineup sooner than later at guard. Round 7 Pick 204: Jacques Patrick, RB/FB/TE?, Florida State 6’3” 234The seventh round is the perfect place to take a chance on a project. Meet Jacques Patrick. A former prized recruit for the Seminoles, Patrick never became the dominant power back he was billed to be coming out of high school. However, he’s a large, impressive specimen with some potential to develop. Patrick could be a perfect candidate to practice squad for a year or two and develop into a fullback in LaFleur’s system. He’s got the size, speed and skill to carry the ball and catch the ball out of the backfield. Patrick is the perfect candidate to pick late: he’s got the tools athletically. If it doesn’t work out, he was a seventh round flier. If he does work out, however, you’ve got a major piece of your offense and didn’t invest much into acquiring him. RecapNow, I know I didn’t really address the offensive line. Edoga would be a nice get in the sixth, but preferably a more notable upgrade will be made to the offensive line. I really wanted to get a pass rusher and take advantage of the tight end class. If you notice, five of the players I selected were in Mobile, Ala. for the Senior Bowl. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. There was a ton of talent down at the all-star game this year, and they created a ton of intrigue.

Red Zone Play: Six Reasons To Get Excited About the Texans It’s funny how everyone knows the preseason doesn’t count Benardrick McKinney Jersey , yet we all get excited for the games. Last week’s battle with the Kansas City Chiefs was no different. As far as the outcome, it was truly meaningless, but that doesn’t equate to a total lack of importance. While the six reasons to get excited about the 2018 Houston Texans listed below might all turn out to be Lestar Jean moments, let’s talk about the bright spots. Offensive Line: While they certainly didn’t perform like a pack of All-Pros and didn’t face a ferocious front seven, Houston’s offensive line looked vastly improved from last year. Deshaun Watson stayed clean as a whistle (in fact, I’m not sure he even broke a sweat) and Lamar Miller had a nice, effective run in the opening drive. For anyone paying attention, this group certainly is a step up over the series of traffic cones deployed last season. Brandon Weeden: If you had any doubt, this guy has a cannon and isn’t afraid to sling it. From his command of the playbook to his control in the pocket to his ability to move at the speed of NFL play, Weeden proved he deserved to stay in Houston when Tom Savage was handed his walking papers. Should DW4 go down again, the Texans are much better off with Weeden than Savage. You might even be able to argue that Joe Webb looked better than Savage鈥?Julie’n Davenport: Here’s a mid-round pick entering his second season as the starter in one of the most important positions on the team. Not only was he impressive Bradley Roby Jersey , the announcers were discussing how he spent the offseason learning everything he could about defense so he knew how to read what was coming at him and how to adjust accordingly. With that mindset, and with guys like J.J. Watt, Whitney Mercilus, Romeo Crennel and Johnathan Joseph there to teach him what to look for, expect and react to, this kid should turn out more than just alright. And let’s not forget that 7’3” wingspan.Duke Ejiofor: Although Houston couldn’t manage to land a star quarterback for years, picking up a great pass rusher seems like it just comes naturally. Ejiofor showed the same “only runs in top gear” motor we’ve all come to know and love via Watt, Mercilus and the others. Pairing him with Jadeveon Clowney, Dylan Cole, D.J. Reader, Benardrick McKinney and Zach Cunningham is going to give Romeo Crennel even more opportunity to shotgun blast an opposing offensive line. This kid is embracing the “be the best teammate I can be” philosophy and doing it in an exciting manner. Special Teams: This might have been the most competent special teams outing in recent memory. While that isn’t saying a lot Tashaun Gipson Jersey , competent is improvement in Houston. Sure, Tyler Ervin is still back there fielding kicks for some unknown reason, but hopefully some other guys will get a chance this week when Houston hosts the 49ers Saturday night. At least Ervin managed to keep the ball off the ground鈥?Troymaine Pope: Talk about flying under the radar. This kid has wings, not wheels. Watching him jet through the line reminded me of an early, unpolished Darren Sproles. Having a guy like that to offset Miller and (hopefully) D’Onta Foreman should give Bill O’Brien some better options than he had last season. While the jury is still out on whether Foreman will ever return to form and Alfred Blue appears to be firmly entrenched on the roster as the A-Gap Guy, keeping Pope around might lead to some unexpectedly explosive running plays at just the right time. While none of these players are stars, knowing that Watson, DAandre Hopkins, Watt, Clowney and the Honey Badger are all prowling the sideline, waiting to add their abilities to the efforts of the rest of the team Zach Fulton Jersey , it’s easy to get optimistic that the Texans can return to form this season. With all the talk of J.J. Watt aiming for his next DPOY and excitement about just what Deshaun Watson will do to opposing defenses this year, it’s okay to amp up the energy level and get jazzed for the 2018 Houston Texans. What were your top highlights from the first preseason game? See something that got your adrenaline flowing? Waiting for this weekend’s game to check out something that didn’t play out last week? After wide receiver Demaryius Thomas caught three passes for 61 yards in his first game with the Texans, head coach Bill O’Brien said he looked forward to being “able to use him more” after the team returned from their bye week. That return came against Washington last Sunday and things went in the other direction. Thomas didn’t have a catch while being targeted once by quarterback Deshaun Watson while playing on 46 offensive snaps.O’Brien took responsibility for Thomas’ lack of involvement on Wednesday.“Yeah, it’s not Demaryius,” O’Brien said, via the Houston Chronicle. “I have to do a better job of getting him more involved. He’s working hard, he’s a good pro and we need to do a better job of getting him the ball a little more.”Watson said he feels Thomas is “very close” to having the entire offense down pat. The next chance to check in on his progress comes against the Titans on Monday night.

Film room: Malik Jefferson shows off his rare traits The Bengals had four draft picks in the first three round of the 2018 NFL Draft. First-round pick Billy Price was slotted in as the starter at center from day one. Jessie Bates III impressed enough during training camp to allow the team to move on from George Iloka and install the second-round pick as their starting free safety. And third-round pick Sam Hubbard looks to play a key rotational role at defensive end and tackle. Then there’s former Texas linebacker Malik Jefferson.Unlike the team’s other top picks Color Rush Drew Sample Jersey , Jefferson hasn’t seen time with the top unit or made any standout plays in preseason games or practice that generated a lot of internet buzz. Not unlike fellow third-round pick Hubbard, Jefferson has some excellent athletic traits and was seen as a potential first-rounder at one point in the pre-draft process. Jefferson however has some fixable issues in his game that will need to be worked out before he can become the player he is capable of being. In the Bengals’ final preseason game, he had some flash plays that showed why he is worth keeping around, but also showed that he has the same issues that he had in college.Jefferson is inconsistent as a open-field tackler. When he looks to make a tackle in the open field if often does not get his body under control. He will reach and try to make a tackle outside the framework of his body, missing tackles far too often. In the clip below he does not get his adjust well to the ball-carriers cut and simply lunges for the tackle. He needs to chop his feet and lower his hips to change his direction of pursuit, then get to the ball carrier before attempting the tackle. The first clip is a little better. He is under more control and most importantly he makes the tackle. He is still lunging and has his head down. With the new Use of the Helmet rule, there has been a lot of emphasis on lowering the head to make contact. This is a clean tackle in that Jefferson’s head is not involved, but he does lower his head which can also lead to missed tackles. When driving a car, if a person looks at something other than the road Cheap Drew Sample Jersey , they will naturally start to drift off the road. It is the same thing with tackling. If a player takes his eyes off ball carrier and looks at the ground, the defender is going down, but the ball carrier may not be coming with him, particularly if he jukes or cuts. The second clip is much better. Jefferson gets his hips under control as the ball carrier alters his path. He gets to the tackle, keeping his eyes on the ball carrier, and bringing his entire body rather than lunging and hoping for a miracle. This is a much better job by Jefferson.Jefferson’s tackling issues mainly come in the open field, as he looks much better as a box player right now. Here he makes a great read on the sweep and sneaks in behind the pulling guard. The running back is forced deeper into the backfield by the linebacker’s penetration, but Jefferson is able to get a hand on him. This slows him up enough to give Hubbard and linebacker Hardy Nickerson enough time to come and clean it up for a tackle-for-a-loss.Here Jefferson uses his hips and hands to get off the block and make the tackle. This is an excellent job in a clutch fourth-and-short situation, showing that Jefferson is not only capable of making big plays Drew Sample Jersey Womens , he is capable of making them at big moments. Here, Jefferson shows his athletic ability in coverage by running with the vertical route. He is lined up in man coverage over the slot and runs stride for stride with him playing the ball through his hands at just the right moment and getting the pass breakup. This shows that Jefferson has some ball skills in man coverage and the athletic ability to run with the deep route. Jefferson can look lost and float around in coverage at times, but in this clip he makes a good pass drop and reads the quarterback. After reading the quarterbacks indicators, he breaks towards the pass and leaps to deflect the ball. He shows here that he can execute in pass coverage and make the correct reads. The Bengals’ final preseason game was the best opportunity Jefferson has had to showcase his talents in the NFL. He is a very talented rookie, but like most rookies he has a few key areas in his game that he needs to work on and needs to get comfortable within the defense. At times, he seems lost or confused, and as he learns the defense and his role in it, he will become more comfortable and as a result he will play faster and make more plays. Once his tackling improves and he gains a better understanding of playing in his fits, he could be a serious asset to the Bengals’ defense. With Vontaze Burfict out for the first four games Andy Dalton Jersey , the Bengals could sure use Jefferson early and often this year. He’s showing flashes of a guy who can make an impact. Perhaps that starts today against the Colts. What are your expectations for Jefferson in his rookie year with the Bengals?Despite lack of touchdowns, the Bengals still have to account for Julio Jones While rookie wide receiver Calvin Ridley had a breakout three-touchdown game in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints, the Atlanta Falcons biggest star Julio Jones has still yet to find the end zone this season. Jones has 20 receptions for 329 yards through three games, and he is often inexplicably subbed out on the goal line. Regardless, Jones is still one of the best receivers in the game and a problem for the Bengals secondary.Jones and quarterback Matt Ryan were not able to connect on any routes over 40 yards this year until the 58-yarder seen below. Ryan’s pass is underthrown but Jones is able to adjust and make the catch. The Saints are able to catch up with him because of this and with a better ball from Ryan, his touchdown drought could have ended. Here, Jones is the third receiver from the bottom of the screen and runs a corner route. The cornerback sits on the quick out by the outside receiver, which opens up a window for Ryan to put the ball in. This is a touch pass to the wide side of the field, but the pair are able to connect. Unfortunately for Jones A.J. Green Jersey , he’s tackled just shy of the end zone.Jones is lined up on the bottom of the screen here. He runs an incredible stop-n-go route that the defender bites hard on. This leaves Jones wide open running down the sideline., but the ball is off target and a little short. Jones makes a great effort to adjust to the ball, but cannot pull it in. A well-placed ball would have led to a huge touchdown pass here, but again, Ryan and Jones fail to connect.Jones is lined up at the bottom of the screen here. The cornerback is playing way off of him, but Jones is able to eat up his cushion very quickly. Jones stems to the inside as he cuts down the space between him and the defender then quickly breaks just outside the cornerback when he turns his hips to the inside. This is a great route by Jones, but Ryan overthrows him this time.Jones is running a post from the top of the screen here. Ryan targets him for a potential touchdown, but fails to see the cornerback from the other side of the formation dropping underneath the route.Ryan throws some risky balls over the middle of the field from time to time. If this happens against the Bengals, safety Jessie Bates III may be able to record his second interception of the season. The Falcons have all of the talent in the world offensively and will give the Bengals fits trying to match up with them. Jones and Ridley are both incredible athletes and exceptional route runners. For whatever reason Michael Jordan Cincinnati Bengals Jersey , the Falcons have not used Jones on the goal line and have failed to connect with him on a deep touchdown pass. Ridley, on the other hand, was a terror last week against the Saints, and has proven to be a worthy adversary for any defense. The Bengals will need a strong performance from their secondary and an excellent pass rush to win in Week 4, and make no mistake, stopping Jones is still a top priority.

Mike Pettine must feel for Todd Bowles. Each man is a superb defensive coach Davon House Jersey White , adept at creating pressure out of nothing like a skilled illusionist, yet neither appear to be suited to run NFL programs. Bowles’ time as head coach in New York will likely finish with a win percentage under .400 and by January will, like Pettine, be a former Jets coach. Calls for Pettine to remain at his post in Green Bay as defensive coordinator ring throughout Cheesehead Nation, but if the team’s new head coach hire wants a fresh start, Bowles could be the most appealing defensive coordinator candidate on the market. Bowles took over Eagles passing defense in 2012 after the team fired former offensive line coach Juan Castillo, who had been promoted by Andy Reid in one of the strangest coaching moves of the last decade. When Philly fired Reid after that season, Bowles left for Arizona Kyler Fackrell Jersey White , where he schemed the Cardinals defense into one of the league’s best. Without any edge rushers to speak of (sound familiar?) Bowles created a defense around scheming free rushers, much like Pettine, and was the most effective man in football at doing so. In 2013, Bowles’ first season as DC, the Cardinals finished second in DVOA, fifth against the pass and first against the run. Injuries crippled the Cardinals in 2014 when just two defensive starters played all 16 games, but Bowles kept them in the top-10 in defense by DVOA, launching him to national prominence and ultimately landing Bowles the Jets’ head coaching job in 2015. The former NFL defensive back hit the grounding running http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-justin-vogel-jersey , leading New York to one of the league’s best defenses, top-10 overall, against the pass and rush, with the league’s top rush defense by DVOA.Management’s incompetence in putting quality players on the field handcuffed Bowles’ ability not only to field a quality defense, but a competitive team overall since that first season. The Gang Green struggles shouldn’t be laid at the feet of Bowles, who hasn’t been given much to work with over the course of his tenure with the Jets, but it’s become clear Bowles hasn’t been able to translate his defensive acumen to head coaching ability. Perhaps the similarities between Bowles and Pettine merge once again; each may be better suited as defensive coaches than head coaches. From a fit standpoint, Bowles runs a 3-4 front with an aggressive blitz-centric approach Womens J'Mon Moore Jersey , similar to Pettine’s and easing a potential transition. Though some of the nomenclature has lost its meaning of the years with teams running less and less base personnel, the types of defensive linemen and pass rushers teams look for in different schemes can vary significantly. In this case, there wouldn’t be a concern over not having the right kind of personnel to run his stuff. None of this is to say Bowles would be a preferable option to Pettine. Continuity remains paramount in the NFL at a time the league has done everything in its power to outlaw playing defense. Communication, scheme awareness and understanding are the few tools defensive players have to combat the ridiculous numbers offenses put up each week. An offensive-minded coach like Lincoln Riley or Eric Bieniemy may walk into Green Bay without a strong feeling as to who should be defensive coordinator, opening the door for Pettine to remain in charge. The same is true for Josh McDaniels, though to a lesser extent and it’s worth noting that Matt Eberflus, the man he tabbed in Indianapolis as his DC before bailing on the Colts, has done an excellent job in Indy with limited talent. But should Pettine not be seen as an ideal fit for whomever Mark Murphy and Brian Gutekunst decide to bring in http://www.packerslockerroom.com/authentic-jk-scott-jersey , Bowles should be considered one of the few other elite defensive coaches ready to fill the void. That’s the challenge Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur faces as he awaits the arrival of his players for the beginning of the offseason .This willl be not only the first time LaFleur has addressed any of his players as their head coach, but he’s also taking over a team that had the same head coach for the past 13 years. A tidal wave of change has swept Green Bay and the players will be looking to see what the path forward exactly is?At the center of all this will be quarterback Aaron Rodgers. The relationship between the quarterback and head coach is crucial to the ultimate success of the team and all eyes will be on Rodgers and LaFleur. They’ve had many phone conversations but that first in-person discussion during the offseason will be critical in seeing what kind of chemistry develops between the play caller and the player responsible for executing those calls. It’s all starting to come together in Green Bay, and now it’s time to see exactly what and who the 2019 Packers will be.You can read more on what LaFleur has in front of him plus what LaFleur is thinking regarding DeShone Kizer in today’s cheese curds. How Packers coach Matt LaFleur can command the room during first team meeting—PackersNews.comLaFleur’s youth (age 39) was discussed frequently in the immediate period after his hiring and how he’d be able to command a room at an age close to some of his players including his quarterback. New J.J. Watt Jersey White ,41commentsIt is an area where another horseman couldn’t hurt.CSTShareTweetShareShareWhat Should Houston Do At Running Back Moving Forward? Troy Taormina-USA TODAY SportsLamar Miller is entering the final year of a four-year deal worth $26 million.Texans general manager Brian Gaine has already come out and said that Miller will be the team’s starter for the 2019 season. He called the 27-year old veteran a “three-down back.”In 14 games last season, Miller rushed for 973 yards and five scores. When asked about backup running back D’Onta Foreman, Gaine said he was optimistic the third-year back will have a greater contribution as he gets back to full health.Foreman spent almost the entirety of 2018 recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in November 2017.What should the Texans do about the running back position moving forward?Lamar Miller will want to get paid handsomely next season. He’ll be 28 by the time he hits the market. One would have to imagine that in Miller’s last opportunity for a hefty paycheck as a professional football player, he will be looking for the highest bidder.Miller is going to command a bigger deal, and Foreman is a mystery. The Texans need to first worry about the inevitable (yet deserved) day when franchise quarterback Deshaun Watson will seek a mega deal. Both he and Patrick Mahomes could be the first ever $200 million NFL contracts.Former first overall draft pick Jadeveon Clowney wants a payday to remain in Houston.Wide receiver Will Fuller is eligible for free agency in 2020; he is arguably the best over-the-top receiver in the league when healthy, a modern day DeSean Jackson, if you will. When several players who are more important to the nucleus of the Texans due for raises, Miller will likely have to search elsewhere if money is his priority.D’Onta Foreman is an unproven commodity who needs to show that he can return to full health and pre-injury ability. Before his rookie season injury Alfred Blue Jersey White , the running back out of Texas averaged 4.2 yards per carry in his limited playing time, so there is reason to hope he can produce on this level despite the significance of an Achilles injury. The Texans have decisions to make. If you are the type of person who lives in the moment, you have nothing to worry about. If you are the type who is constantly focused on the future, it is time to address the issue before it’s too late.First of all, Le’Veon Bell is not happening. It was a fun thought once upon a time, but another team can back up the Brinks truck for that one. There has been speculation that the Texans may chase Tevin Coleman. The fifth-year running back was an intricate part of the Falcons during their Super Bowl run in 2016, and he performed well last season when starter Devonta Freeman missed extended time due to injury. Coleman is mainly an up-the-middle running back who can also be useful in the short passing game. That sounds a whole lot like Lamar Miller. Coleman is a good option, but he is not going to solve any big running back problems. He is better suited for a by-committee tandem Natrell Jamerson Jersey White , if the Texans are interested in that.Other free agents include Mark Ingram, Doug Martin, Marshawn Lynch, Mike Davis, and C.J. Anderson. It’s hard to imagine any of them would draw much of the Texans’ interest because of money, age, or injury history. The Texans could also look to the 2019 NFL Draft for a running back. The issue with that is their list of priorities. The offensive line desperately needs to be addressed, as does the secondary. If the Texans want to look for a running back prospect http://www.thetexanslockerroom.com/authentic-d_onta-foreman-jersey , they may need to do it in a later round. That takes the big names off the table and turns it into a gamble-type situation. Will Bryce Love out of Stanford fall far enough into the draft? What about Justice Hill from Oklahoma State? Darrell Henderson from Memphis?Luckily, these questions are not in dire need of answering at this moment. But if you are like me, and you think about issues that won’t be relevant for a whole year, it is a slight concern as the 2019 offseason rolls on.J.J. Watt Injury Update: Expects To Play Week One Against Patriots According to Aaron Wilson, J.J. Watt should be ready for the regular season opener against the Patriots. The Texans‘ defensive end has played just eight games the last two seasons (one of which was also against the New England Patriots). For the third straight year, Watt will reportedly begin the season healthy. The question is going to be whether he can stay on the field. Although he didn’t play in the preseason opener against the Chiefs last week, we may see Watt on the field before the regular season. Watt has been on the practice field, and maybe Womens Dylan Cole Jersey , who knows, will play in this weekend’s preseason game. If you had to bet your life on it, I would bet Watt makes his preseason debut the following week against the Los Angeles Rams before sitting the following week against Dallas to make sure he’s ready for New England come September 9th. Watching Watt play football has been one of the only joys of being a Texans fan. I’m dying to watch him devour universes again. Hopefully, we get to see him put together one more insane season.
